Troop Train at NAPM
ATSF 4089 is in charge of the Troop Train. We watch it leaving Union Depot and running the rails.
This 1923 Baldwin built locomotive is just one of the 100 Mikes in the 4000 class. The Santa Fe had over 300 Mikados in total. These were the workhorses of the system. Most of the locomotives lasted well into the early to mid 1950's.
This is a Broadway Limited model Paragon4 ATSF 4000 Class 2-8-2
The Passanger cars are Walthers cars and the waycar is an Intermountian car.

    Hey DPT3001 just wondering if you've had any issues with your Goose. I recently purchased one and I have two issues. The chuff doesn't start till the engine moves an inch and a half. When running the chuff will go almost off when you decrease or increase the speed.

    • @DPT3001
      @DPT3001 Рік тому

      Hey Charlie, i haven't really paid that much attention to the sound other than to adjust some of the setting down a bit. I know the chuff will get quite when I'm not adjusting speed steps and the locomotive is running, but will get loud when i do start throttling up or down. I'm also not sure when it will start going off when first starting. I copied the DCC settings from other Broadway locomotives i have. i think someone had adjusted some of these settings on them a long time ago. I feel there is a setting you can adjust with JMRI to fix the problem. Wish i could of been a little better help.

    • @CharlieKrampitz
      @CharlieKrampitz Рік тому

      @DPT3001 DPT A friend and I figured things out. He has the Texas and Pacific 610 that had the same issues. It's just BLI's sound systems. They are a totally different beast that a Tsunami. When starting to move the injectors are blowing off before it starts to chuff. The issue with the chuff going in and out while running fast is to simulate a locomotive drifting. I solved that by changing the CV to switching mode, which improved its performance.

Much improved sound, far superior loco control and more lighting effects. They can start moving now on just one speedstep. That club had to relocate and the new club and layout didn't have room for this bridge. As a kid I remember looking at this bridge in a display case. I had joined this club about 10 years ago but the bridge was gone by then. The one survivor sits derelict under trees, neglected, except for few attempts through years to at least, cosmetically revive it. Hardly visible, until you drive right up to it. • @railscenes4959
    @railscenes4959 2 роки тому

    DPT3001 Had a minor problem with my BLI ATSF 3460. The 2 power wires between the tender trucks and the decoder had worked in between the bolster and bolster pin/pad, causing the tender to lean a bit to the left. That in turn caused the right front tender truck to lift just enough to climb the right rail when the loco negotiated a left hand turnout or even in the middle of a helix. It took a while to take it apart and just closely examine every part of the tender. Then the next morning I called BLI tech support. I assured her I have 50 some years in HO Scale modeling including buying the 1968 Tenshodo ATSF 3460, and was still stumped. She offered to write up a form to send it back to BLI, but would take a while to wait for BLI to work on it. So I listened to her suggestions and decided to wait to send it in. That evening I just thought about it. It occurred to me that the electric wires from the decoder to the tender trucks were a bit tight. So at our club work bench I took it apart again and found the rear truck wire even showed signs of being pinched that I could only see with magnifying goggles. 🤓. The solution was to carefully file a groove in the frame the width of the wire along side of the bolster pad on the frame. I also loosened the decoder board & speakers to get them clear of any metal filing and allow the small file to slide thru. It took some careful slow filing to create a smooth channel, with no burrs. Then added a thin coat of super glue gel to insulate the frame in case the insulated wire was too thin. It worked much better allowing the tender trucks to articulate freely. Several round trips on the club layout proved successful. Left hand turnouts and curves did just fine. Plus, the slight leaning tender stood straight in line with this beautiful locomotive.
