@@khangle8902 very good question! They both add calcium to soil so I don’t see why it would be a problem. Although since I don’t know the definitive answer I would recommend doing a bit more research online to see if it would cause any issues. As far as I know it should not and worse case scenario the gypsum is 100% not necessary and I have forgotten to add it in the past and my cake did just fine :) hope this helps!

As a contractor I’m always making messes so I’m looking for extremely good wet cloth that you can pull out of a wet tub and I’m always looking for extremely good shop towels. Home Depot now sells a shop towel that comes in a roll like a paper towel, but it is an actual washcloth that you can pull off in squares. it literally comes on a sticker roll and a paper towel and I can make one square as long as a washcloth paper towel would last after one wipe. I’ll try to get you a link because I have one of my property managers buying me some bulk.

@@jamesfirehummer3216 absolutely! Although it did work for me here and has worked for me numerous times without a flow hood. I still highly recommend one for all mycology work and agar work in particular. However as you probably know, flow hoods can get super pricey and most hobby growers are not willing to pay the price for them. At least not at the beginning of their mycology journey.

Maybe i can put them in ziplock bags and refrigerate them,but as you said wont last very long. Thank you so much once again

Best of luck!! I had two colonized bags that were colonizing for about 4 months spawned to bulk. Both were sadly contaminated but I feel like the substrate was actually the problem this time. The bags looked totally fine and smelled normal

@@dedwitey you absolutely can do that! It might give you a higher chance of getting no contamination. For me though it is hard to boil water and let it cool for dunking when I have 4+ bins that need to be dunked. Sometimes I’d rather take the small risk. For someone with just one or two bins I think it’s 100% worth boiling the water first

@@Dmt.shrooms absolutely! I had quite a few bins lost to contamination and that’s most my content at the moment. I’m working on new ideas and new bins have been spawned to bulk. It’s only a matter of time 😅👍

@@GoombaGrows I actually wanna see your contam process how it happened what you’ll do differently all that sorta stuff I’m about to spawn to bulk 2 plant trays and Yh for my first time I’m like on a content binge just rewatching everything ten times but Yh I hear it contam is just inevitable but Yh maaan I wish it wasn’t so common on that first flush just give me some mushroooooooms 🤣

Just some form of bacterial contamination. It can come in many forms, I found the most common is cobweb mold and trichoderma but there are quite a few others!

First of all, why would I lie about that? 🤣 I spray / mist my tubs after the first flush but never on the first flush. There is plenty of moisture in your substrate that gets brought to the surface during colonization and makes the bin plenty humid. Once moving onto the second flush, I do start misting and fanning about 2-3 times a day.

@@rodneygrogan1180 you absolutely can but I usually am not able to eat the amount of mushrooms I grow fresh before they go bad. Better to dry them so they can last a year or even longer.

How do you dry yours? I mean, I use a food dehydrater, at 70c for 24hr, then vacuum seal. I disagree with feedback on results, of drying at 35c for 48hr. I like your talk, what's your thoughts?

50°C is just about perfect for mushrooms. A little on the hot side I think, but won’t cause any issues or decrease potency.

100°C is absolutely too high. At that heat you would be basically cooking them. You can do around 45-50°C and have great results however :)

Honestly I don’t think that’s a bad idea, I have tried this method with coco coir and it worked pretty darn well.

They sure don’t! The light will help them grow more uniform as it gives the mushrooms a direction to grow towards but it is not necessary.

I used a light on half and didn’t use one on the other half, it can dry your cake out faster depending on the light and how close it is I’ve noticed
