Wow this is really cool. I have no idea where Ill be in a year but I love the idea. I was recently wondering about this same sort of idea, just taking a game and running with it regardless of what the company says. Seems like more and more communities end up having to do that these days.

I won a tournament on a cheap Hymn to Tourach deck. It is shockingly powerful when combined with those 2/2 black flying creatures that remove cards from your hands.

20:00 Great video, but I would say Up the beanstalk is a bad example because it is an outlier, and was banned for being too good. Green is good at drawing cards, but that effect mostly is, and should be, stapled to creature synergies. P.S. Very well said about how Candy trail is great velocity for progressing through the beginning, middle, and late game stages! I hit mythic for the first time this season using mostly aggro decks, but I really enjoy mid range and I want to dip my toes further into control. I plan on making a 3 or 4 -color control deck and I am considering adding Candy trail to it, specifically because of this video

I think the amount of velocity a card gives you is also related to how many different abilities are in your deck. Phoenix seems like it would have a lot of velocity but all the cards do the same thing

I am loving the more philosophical questions. I could describe velocity as card "agility" or "nimbleness". You improve card quality rather than quantity. I have heard the metaphor of "filtering" your hand a lot as well, similar to your churning/thinning terminology.

I do not and will never object to AI art for a fan project made for fun, especially if you dont plan to profit. Would it be cooler to have art done by a real person? Yes, but it so heavily outweighed by practicality I don't see the harm.

Ive had some similar ideas but i haven't tested it. One I like a lot, at least in theory, is nahiris warcrafting. If you hit your Servitor with it, you can look at the top 4 cards and choose 1 to pay that turn while dealing 5 to your foes' face.

Your "golden pack" progress is notable too, as you want to use your common and uncommon wildcards on the most current set first as they will be the ones to get vault percentage as you progress towards the golden pack

These were some cool games! Very neat to see how Cruel Ultimatum dictated the interaction uniquely in each game. Most opponents crumble under all that value evidently. I played my first premier draft yesterday. Lost two games and then won three before finally losing the last game--what a rush!

This is a good deck build. Fitting the most colors is quiet hard in my aspect.

Glad you got to go to your prelease! I had fun at mine too. Building the deck was a lot of fun and took me out of my comfort zone a bit. My promo card was Marchesa, Dealer of Death. Between her and some great value like Intimidation Campaign, Greed's Gambit, Ionize, and Slick Sequence I ended up making a Grixis crime/control deck that played pretty well. Looking forward to building an EDH deck with Marchesa. I also pulled that mana drain after the event! So exciting. I'm so excited about this limited format that I bought a box to do some paper drafts with friends, and I look forward to grinding some drafts on MTG Arena

There are no best format for F2P in this game once the rigging kicks in. Which is in every single game.

I started playing Arena at least 3 weeks ago. My assessment is, it is very rigged. Then someone suggested me to try MTGO. It looks very basic compared to MTGA but it has fair play.

Play boosters ruined draft. Normal players dont want more foils and rares they want a comprehensible and cohesive game play with their friends.

I'm old enough to have been playing in store tournaments when Hymn to Tourach was legal in Type 2 (now standard). I think they finally had to restrict that card to 1 per/deck. At this point, it's currently banned in all but Legacy and Vintage. They either have to nerf it (maybe 1 card at random) or auto-restrict/ban it right out of the gate. If they let it go as-is in standard, they're going to re-learn the lesson of history. The straight up 2 for 1 is bad enough, but the random selection just puts it over the top. It's a terrible Magic card. I played mostly W Weenie at the time and Javelinier and Order of Leitbur were staples in that deck Aside from Hymn, at the time, Fallen Empires was considered a "dud" set, with none of the broken cards like we saw in Alpha/Beta/Unlimited, Arabian Knights and Legends. It will be interesting to see how these old cards interact with the newer sets.
