Another day of firewood and deliveries
Just catching up on videos . Robert’s good people and ain’t afraid of working . That new splitter sure is fast Russ . I like how ya tested it with just the single knife .
@@AllenFamilyFirewood that is fast but with the single knife we get good clean splits.
8 to 10 inch rpunds and use the 9 way and shove em thru as fast as ya can.. 1 time of touching them will speed up the time alot.
Another great video Russ. You’ve mentioned few times that you sell green firewood. Of sure if there’s a market for that where I live in MA, as I’ve only sold seasoned, but having a small yard myself, the option of selling it green is enticing. Curious if you know whether your customers are burning green firewood or sitting on it and seasoning it. Keep up the great work!
@@Log_Whisperer some burn it and some hold it to season for next year. Each customer is different.
I’m good with anything under 25% When I bring inside to my cart it will dry a little more. I burn my stove hot as the sun. lol
@@VicsYard yeah 25% or under should be fine🔥🪵
What is the point of the top plate on the main wedge?
@@DanielAtkinsFirewood it's to keep from lifting too far while operating to prevent damage to the lift cylinder. The lift cylinder goes above for the spinning wedge design
@WilleysFirewood : But even the other models have the same design..
@ it's a safety for the wedges. Safety first.
I think I would build removable wings on both sides of the table. When splitting the wood it would just push it out across table and onto conveyor. My two cents table fills up and wood falls on ground kevin is busy doing other things. Love this green beast. Willy is too busy loading wood and pulling splitter handle. You put three guys on this and wow you can blow out some wood. Great video
We are going to have a video soon with three guys to see if we can use the full potential of the green machine.
Got to keep a eye for flying wood with that machine 🤕
Yep it kick out with some serious force.
@ yes indeed!!
Russ Russ Russ you killing me , spray that road salt off the splitter. I want to see the real green mean machine. Keep it up great video

In lieu of sounding like my grandpa… I remember back in my day when batteries were 79.99. lol batteries are outrageous
Good lord are the prices terrible. Makes me want to make a horse drawn firewood wagon 😂
Your wood stand wouldn't be selling as fast if it wasn't dry
We try to provide a good product and 75 to 90% of our business is all return customers.
Go downhill and use the dump truck as a giant log lift. One on each side would be better. Point the nose of the dump truck down hill and tip it up to help with the hight. Hope this helps.😊
I hadn't thought of using the dump truck. You have me thinking now
If i was doing the challenge i would position both of your trucks and your skid loader full of wood around the spitter so it would be no more than 1 or two steps from the splitter. Less steps and no bending over equals less exhaustion which should make your time faster. Rounds no bigger 12-14 inches and the easiest splitting would you have. No knots if possible. No switching. K train supplying wood and Russ running the splitter. 8 minutes or less no problem. This title is yours to take. Go get it boys !!!!!
You are inline with our thinking for sure!
If you want some help for this challenge I'm down as well 💪 All Wood will take the win! 🤘
I'll keep that in mind!
@@WilleysFirewood Yessa!
If you want some help for this challenge I'm down as well 💪 All Wood will take the win! 🤘
Russ, this challenge, does it have room for a third man. Ie a feeder/cleaner for the outfeed at the start of the conveyor? Seems to me you and the hardworking man didnt use a conveyor therefore no bottle neck. For a full cord race, one loading like Kevin today and another loading the log lift and cleaning the" spills" away. You'll get sub 9seconds for sure. Cheers from HB NZ
@@cliffjenkins6419 we are going to stick to the rules and use 2 guys
I believe you have tested and went over in your head multiple times the best way to have the best time. Id do a 2 minute switch, that way the loading guy is always fresh. Make sure ya have a good path during the switch. Keep a steady pace but don't over do it, over doing it brings on mistakes. It's great to see Big Rich in the yard working foe a pay cheque.
Thanks for the suggestions, we’ll definitely keep those in mind! I'm not sure which way we will go just yet but we are figuring it as we go
@WilleysFirewood it will be great no matter what
Trying to split flatout means much higher chance of injury and that also means time away from be able to work at all, really do not see the point in doing this at all.
It's a friendly contest nothing more I won't push the splitter beyond it's intended use. And safety is always on our minds
Gotta love those tundras, my 2015 I’ve only had to do, oil change, tires, wipers, and a battery. Rough it’s always on the coldest day when they quit
Tundra is a great truck. We haven't had any issues yet! Other than a dead battery 🤣
Somehow you need to get your splitter and conveyor coordinated
We have a plan to keep them linked up with no more issues in the future
Appropriately sized box end wrench placed over one of the battery terminals makes for a somewhat usefull lifting device for removing a battery that does not have handles.
@@iffykidmn8170 welding gloves recommend though
@@WilleysFirewood The offset in the wrench usually prevents the wrench from contacting the opposite post but yes care does need to be taken from welding the wrench to the opposite terminal, I have one of those nonconductive battery straps that spans both terminals but remembering where I put it is usually my problem.😜🤪
I see the biggest obstacle is clearing the wood from the end of the splitter. Nice to see Richie out I the woodyard with you guys.
Yeah the wood needs to get moved faster. We got that figured out now. I love when Richard comes out to help all on his own
85% of wood on the ground 😢😢😢
Yeah the conveyor got pushed away from the splitter. We will fix that problem
Russ & Kevin...You would have chopped at least 30-45 seconds off your time if Heath didn't have to move his truck three times! The 8:36 is going to be tough. My suggestion would be to get a cord of logs all less than 16" diameter and use the six-way so there is no resplitting to get "firewood size" chunks!
You are thinking along the same lines we are
@@WilleysFirewood 12-16" straight grained Ash being probably the lightest weight easiest splitting, bigger rounds equals less rounds but more weight per round moved or smaller rounds equals more movement perhaps stage the larger rounds first and smaller towards the end for when the energy level dissipates.🤔
@@iffykidmn8170 unfortunately we won't have ash for our run. We are going to have a mixed bag so it should be a fair real world splitter representation. It's going to be interesting
Remove negative cable first and install last 😊
Yes, you are right should have mentioned that for those that didn't know. Thanks for the tip/reminder
What I always do is hook my 12V jumper pack to the cables before removing. That way I don't have to reset all my favorite channels, clock, and other things that stop running when I remove my battery.
@ that's a great idea I'm definitely going to remember that for next time
Howdy Russ, Looks like it would help if Y'all could come up with a way for the left side of the splitter to clear easier, you got quite a bit of a pile there. Really enjoy your channel best of luck. 🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲 ✝️ God Bless
Drop the front end down on splitter and put blocks under splitter wheels instead of turning everything around
That's good idea. Have to think on that a bit
@WilleysFirewood I set up crushers and screening plants that way
@ very good idea for 👍🏻
the output table is a fail, more wood in the ground than in the conveyer/truck.
It got pushed away from the splitter. We will attach them so that doesn't happen in the future
KNL had fairly uniform wood diameter, making sure they did not have to adjust the splitter height. And they had the wood stacked very efficiently to minimize steps and lifting to ensure the splitter could work optimally. Compared to your attempt with Heath, they really profited from having the conveyor so they did not have to move the splitter like you two had to do. Their sp[litter did bog down with tougher wood. What you would have to do is to mount some guiding panels from the conveyor basket to thee side of the splitter so the splits would fall onto the conveyor by themselves as that seems to be one of your bigger holdups. orienting downhill would definitely help with that too. I thought the idea of using the bed of the pickup was a solid one, but the capacity was limited, so maybe stack two facecord on the side of the lift for optimal accesibility and use one facecord on the restack table side in the pickup bed as a backup. It is all about limiting the small inefficiencies.
@@dropshot1967 I gave studied heath and i's video along with the knl run. We are going all or nothing next time and we have a great group of supporters on the channel helping and cheering.
So, John over at Schott Services channel had the brilliant idea of using a 2 wheeler cart as a tripod and using the twisty style mount to attach the camera and it works amazing. He stopped buying tripods years ago
That’s a great idea I’m gonna have to try that out.
I know your boy wants to help, but he would have been more help if he had showed up and kept the opposite side from Kevin cleared out so that you did not have to do it every time! This and my previous comment are all I could see wrong, but it is hard just from a camera view to tell what the slope is....I agree that getting everything set up so it is all downhill so that the wood that is splitting actually pushes the wood onto the conveyor is key to being really fast! Thanks for the opportunity to give some input! From a 75 year old hobbyist woodhound! LOL
You all need proper flexible winter gloves with good grips. The gloves you had will keep your hands warm but I noticed all 3 of you having problems handling splits with those super thick gloves! And I know it is cold, but when you are using your hands a lot, your hands will stay warm! It should be a lot easier with the proper gloves....likely you will spend a bit of money to find the right ones, but when you do, you will know it! I had a friend who told me one time, it only costs a little more to go first class, and that is true! HA HA
I appreciate the input for sure. We can all learn hobbyist or professional.
@@WilleysFirewood thanks!
@@mikeh8228 there hasn't been a good glove we have found yet and it seems they only get worse with time. The hunt is always on.
@@WilleysFirewood Use the clunky gloves to get things staged to keep the digits warm and switch to lighter gloves with more dexterity for the timed run hands should easily stay warm for the new sub 8-minute record. Perhaps a bit of sand on the ground in the immediate area for better footing and less chance of injury and if it saves a few seconds so much the better.
Russ that thing is wicked fast.Keeps you on your toes. You and Kevin keep up the hard work
Thank you sir we certainly will
one thing I noticed early on...in this video, there is too much gap between the end of the splitter table and the intake for the conveyor unit. Some wood that Kevin was trying to push from the table to the conveyor was getting hung up and falling off, and Kevin was having to take extra time to pick up that wood and to pull out the sticks that were hanging up! Go back and look to see what I am talking about. If the table were 2" closer to the conveyor then there would have been no problem! The other thing is that Kevin is working his back too hard, and not using the lift table to get you loads, but lifting each one individually. I do not know which way is faster, but I believe in working smarter, not harder! LOL Otherwise I enjoyed this video!
Yes I see what you mean there. Going to work on that for sure! Kevin is stubborn about using the log lift
@@WilleysFirewood ha ha, yep, I could tell! Like a bulldog, he is! And I mean that as a compliment!

I think you're on the right track, Russ. Push the wood downhill will help. The bars on the conveyor kinda hold things up a bit too. You guys are faster working from the same side. If you trade places back and forth like Mike and Genin, working from the same side will be a benefit as well. 👍💪

What is Gramp's take on the new splitter?
@@clarencedobsonjr.2585 he thought it was quite a machine. He looked it all over and said that it looked well built
Russ, I think your splitter would be much faster if you hauled it to a car wash & took the salt off it. 😊😊 They use a lot of brime out there & I would hose it off sooner than later. I think how they beat you was, they didn’t re split much & maybe none at all. 8 -37 seconds is really impressive but I think you got the splitter to handle the job. Do a little practice, stage your wood close by & give it all you & Kevin got, but most of all watch your fingers. ❤ your videos & how you always give Kevin some recognition. PS: If you wash it cover up the throttle knob or it will probably freeze up all winter long after that.👍🇺🇸 Dave from Maine.
I think we have a lot of room to improve on this splitterchallenge and I am sure that the cord challenge will get us back to that speed. Splitter will get a bath tomorrow as it's finally warm enough
Hey Russ, you got any customers that request 19" to 20" firewood?? That would be 1 less split per 8ft log...
No not really anymore we do 16" and I have a few that want 12" and 14" now too
@@WilleysFirewood yeah 12" would be an extra split per 8ft log and would slow you down for the challenge.
You need a third man to get the most out of that machine
@@marshillmike three or even four. This machine is super capable of wearing two men out in a real hurry
Russ, you have one"FAST"and impressive machine (Kevin and the Musclewood). Question, I noticed since the splitter came home, that the middle knob that holds the turnaround wedges is missing, is this on purpose or lost? Stay safe and warm.
I have it out to make spinning the wedge faster but I do have the third knob. Good eye!

An attached conveyor may help speed up y'alls time. Kevin will be slinging some rounds!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
@@davidedwards3734 yes conveyor is absolutely key for sure
Your conveyor needs extended wings to handle the volume of wood, coming off of the sorting table. So much wood and slash is falling on the ground. Maybe the sorting table needs to be shorter?? I also noticed that the wood coming off the wedge tends to ‘flare out’ drastically and not proceed straight onto the sorting table.
@@kenskuts the table needs to be above the conveyor so the wood falls in is what we are thinking and the flare is due to crooked cuts we have noticed. All learning curves especially with a machine this fast. Thanks for lending an eye Ken!
Sure wish I could work on stuff in cold w out gloves
It isn't fun but I can't do much with gloves on
@WilleysFirewood I would say don't use the smaller pieces in the challenge
@ we will cherry pick our rounds for sure. We want to let the machine be as effective as possible. 9-12" rounds would be perfect
@WilleysFirewood are 3 people allowed or only 2. Did ya feel the quake?
I heard Genin may have puked after running the cord challenge lol. That sucks about the mic. The re split table is awesome and it looks like your conveyor is struggling a bit to keep up with the new speed machine.
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors good thing Bobby is building us a new conveyor to handle the output of this beast!
Genin puked, I watched it 😅
@ Kevin and I haven't done it yet so time will tell 🤣
Chouldn't the splitter and conveyer be closer together to avoid split wood from falling in between? That way Kevin wouldn't have be unnecessarily handling wood.
@@joeahopelto8032 yes I'm going to pull the tongue out if the conveyor to get everything even closer.
I forgot to say that with conveyer and splitter butted together, the splitter action would automatically push the splits onto the cover. The fewer times the wood is handled, the better the production and profit with less labor.
If you were to remove that whole exit tray (the black sheet metal with the slots cut into it), maybe you jack up the back end to at least level and scooch the elevator under the wedge to catch everything for you. Only for racing purposes, of course. You could also fabricate an exit tray that funnels *down* into the elevator, instead of up, but that's a little harder.
