Jacques Rancière: Aesthetics, Politics, and the Fight for Equality
Ever feel like the world isn't as it seems? Like there's a disconnect between what we're told and what we experience? French philosopher Jacques Rancière explains this disconnect through the concept of the "distribution of the sensible" - who gets to speak, who's heard, and whose reality matters. In this video, we dive deep into Rancière's groundbreaking ideas, exploring how they challenge our understanding of politics, aesthetics, and social equality. Discover the "police" vs. "politics," the power of art to disrupt the status quo, and the radical concept of the "ignorant schoolmaster." Prepare to question everything you thought you knew about equality and the power of art. Join the discussion and share your thoughts in the comments below!

Sounds like the true vision of the National socialist party in Germany in the 20s-40s
Today's American society: Accuse others and always move the shiny keys. This is a perfect example of todays propaganda.
The use of the word 'sensible' here risks being misleading to English speakers hearing this talk. Ranciere is French, so his use of the word - in this context - can't be the same as the English 'sensible' (meaming the right thing to do, the reasonable or good sense thing). Rather, it means sensitive to what is; one's ability to sense or feel meaning. Aesthetics, of which Ranciere speaks here near the end, is home turf to 'le sensible' - what is absorbed, in varying degrees, by the senses; one's capacity to feel and appreciate; one's susceptibility to the art being experienced. The English word 'sensible' (as in "he's a sensible fellow") just doesn't come close to the French meaning intended by Ranciere. Sensitivity and sensible are the two English words that could operate here, and sensitive is the one that applies. It just so happens that the French are more at home with this meaning than Anglo-Saxons, which is why it leads in the philosophy of art and the humanities.
All these comments make me utterly sick: as everybody should know by now, Stalin had amassed the greatest land army of all times at the soviet-german border, in attack, not in defense position and they were equipped with maps of Germany and dictionaries. What were they preparing for, holidays in the Schwarzwald? Why did the Wehrmacht take so many prisoners in the beginning of that conflict, why did it break through so successfully? If the soviet army had been there in a defensive position, this would have been impossible. If it had not been for Germany, the people in Rome, Paris and Amsterdam might easily be speaking by now the language of Dostoievskij.

If Education were free, would that make all men equal? If houses were free, would that provide a roof over everyone's head? We seem to overlook the essential elements of survival, as we struggle to find profits? If as polls indicate, 65% of Americans now have no disposable income, how will Americans emerge from the $18 trillion Consumer Debt? The Capitalist System appears to serve a Minority? Should they remain as Dictators to all who seem to support their lifestyles?
This sort of thing is done all the time in American corporations. The business elite who owns and runs them want to extend their power outside the company gates to society at large.
The cult of work.
General Patton: "We defeated the wrong enemy."
How often is the status quo actually changed by being "challenged"? It changes because it evolves internally. When you suppress independent thought you create stupidity, which makes your system vulnerable. It then changes because it must do so to survive its own weaknesses--not because of some David and Goliath "resistance organization." The powerful thing to tell it is, "If you want to think, you must listen."
Before talking about D-day look up Henry Ford funding of Nastees. +UK bank, Swiss Bank and Vatican bank Natsee army included all European nations expect for UK and Serbia maybe. In WW2 Nastees army already represented collective west.

Good work, Philosopheasy.
There is no We The People in the US. We The Money only. The striking and peculiar characteristic of American society is, that it is not so much a democracy as a huge commercial company for the discovery, cultivation, and capitalization of its enormous territory.... The United States is primarily a commercial society ... and only secondarily a nation...
UK US totalitarian regime's propagandistic issue
Human beings has three processes, the audio-visual process, the emotional process and the reasoning process. A propaganda works on all the three processes. Propaganda is not only used to maintain a dictatorial government. More importantly in modern history it's used to weaken the democracy and to achieve the dictatorship.
THIS is propaganda!!! BS
Hilarious. What single piece of evidence do you have that this isn’t true?
deplorables overuse the word, "propaganda"
Anne Applebaum is at the heart of the liberal establishment that wants to implement Soviet style totalitarian control over the rest of us. Understanding irony clearly isn't her strongest point.

WHAT Trump does as president is entirely Biden's fault for not issuing an executive order to arrest Trump and his fascist supporters in congress along with Trumps fascist traitor judges on the Supreme Court. Some people say that it is not legal for Biden to do that. Okay then, Is fascism, and all of fascisms deadly atrocities legal???
OPEN LETTER TO THE WHITE HOUSE, DEAR PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN AND VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS, BOTH OF YOU HAVE REFERRED TO DONALD TRUMP AS A "FASCIST DICTATOR UNFIT FOR OFFICE". IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT, THEN, WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, WHY ARE YOU IGNORING THE FREEDOMS THAT THE UNITED STATES HAS STOOD FOR AND FOUGHT FOR, FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS BY INSTALLING A FASCIST DICTATOR WITH 34 FELONY CONVICTIONS, TO THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. THANKS ALOT (Please re-think your decision not to act before it is too late.)
Since WW2 the USA has tried to make it seem America won the war and saved the world. First, the USA only entered the war on Dec. 7, 1941 while the war had started on September 01, 1939. The Russians (Soviets) killed 7 of every 10 Nazi soldiers and entered Berlin first. Russia was the saviour of the world!
"The Russians (Soviets) killed 7 of every 10 Nazi soldiers and entered Berlin first. Russia was the saviour of the world!" The Germans lost 5.3 million Soldiers in WW2, lost in battle or never came home. 4 million were lost in the East, but only 2.6 million in battle. So the Soviets accounted for 2 out of every 3 German Soldiers lost in battle, unless you count mur dered POWs. That doesn't account for 80% of German war industry being used against the West.
Churchill was really evil! The Brits should been speaking German now but for the Russians sacrifices…!
Nazi killed a lot of Russians, but Russians killed even more Russians. Russia has been a sad story for a long while.

So many trolls here. I can only guess how many are descendants of Nazi Ukrainians
It was 30 million lives of the entire USSR, not 20. 20 was a number of Russians alone.
That's funny Soviet math... They counted Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Eastern Poland, part of Romania, etc in their losses. Red Army losses are accurate (per Krivosheev), but Civ losses are a little off in the grand scheme. Of the 20+ million civ losses in the East, very small percentage was ethnically Russian.
@@M_Rich11 I don't think this piece of history is funny. Speaking of the number, all those you listed, except for Poland and Romania, were part of the USSR, they were not colonies, but part of the same country, and therefore they were Soviet people fighting in the red army. How do you know it was a very small percentage of ethnically Russian? Who do you think they were then? And how come the ethnically Russian people got to sit the war out? I mean the vast majority of Russia is ethnically Russian, especially back then. You might wanna check your facts.
@@deller5924 My facts are straight and not from a heavily propagandized Soviet history book. Ukraine is full of Ukrainians, not ethnic Russians, same for every other SSR that wasn't Russia. Estonia was only "Soviet" because they were conquered, same for Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, etc. Check your own facts.
@@M_Rich11 You're driven by Russophobia, and thus you're lacking the ability of unbiased critical thinking, as a historian should be unbiased. But yea, whatever makes you tick. Poland was never Soviet, which only proves that you don't know what you're talking about. Have a great day.
@@deller5924 After 1795 Russia claimed Eastern Poland until 1918, and then again 1939 to 1941 as Soviet territory and they claimed those lost Poles as Soviet losses. Check a book, check a damn map. FACT... You have a great day too with whatever makes you tick.

The most propagandized people on earth--now or ever--are present-day Americans. The propaganda is so subtle and expertly done that Americans deny there even is propaganda here.
The US had its propaganda machine, witch hunts against trade unions because they were "communist" - the calling out of national guards on students protesting war in vietnam. Heirarchic democracy has some dissent, but ultimately the people are manipulated by the wealthy and powerful. This still goes on today. The soviet system was fascistic in essence and practice. It was never socialist or communist. But there are fascistic elements to US democracy - concentrated media ownership, the constantly upward money funnel. The secret to freedom is democracy, fake that and the hyper-rich own us all.
I went to my local library looking for Jung's 'Synchronicity: An Acausal Connecting Principle.' The first shelf I randomly walked to, and the first book that caught my eye, was that book.

What non-native speaker of English created your thumbnail? You forgot one word and added a superfluous S. The thumbnail should read "How DOES propaganda work?" Not "How Propaganda Works?" smh
What makes you think it’s a non native English speaker? The title itself is a 50/50, as a visual artist you’re constantly jousting for a space.
@@fromhigherground4272 What makes me know it's a non native speaker? The incorrect grammar makes me know that. Native speakers know how to form a question correctly, while the thumbnail here showcases a common mistake that non native speakers often make (I explained the correct way to phrase a question in my first comment). And I can tell that you yourself are a non native speaker (not that there's anything wrong with that) because you made two grammar mistakes in your comment: never say "it's a 50/50" - native speakers would never add "A" in there. And the vocab mistake of "jousting" instead of "jostling". The two errors you made are not so bad, but this one in the thumbnail is so prevalent and it's quite irksome to fluent native speakers to see our language dumbed down and simplified to conform to the grammar or a foreign language
Applebaum is still a propagandist that works with several right wing think tanks to manifacture consents for western wars amongst the general public. She does not deserve the praise that she get here...
