I did everything exactly as in the tutorial, however when I press play nothing happens on the screen; I don’t even see the blue texts about my inputs. I asked gpt and rewatched the tutorial many times but I don’t understand why is this happening. Can you think any reason? Great tutorial btw
Literally the best Tutorial on this subject on youtube. Simple to follow and understand.
Awesome, thanks for doing this.
I feel like the big deal in this tutorial is that you aren't just saying click this node, you are saying This is what we are trying to do and we click these nodes because... huge difference in the level of comprehension you get from the video this way. Thanks for putting in the work to actually teach!
Good tut. You forgot to add modifiers to the joystick as well or else it won't work properly.
谢谢你
Amazingly thorough video, thank you immensely for this I've been trying to figure out how to fix the grazing angle after looking at other versions of a border shader, this was perfect. Has anyone tried or have thoughts on how you could set the normal outline and the edge outline to separate colors to create a highlight from the normal outline?

im just starting to learn unreal and this video was really nice and I had no trouble with following it thank you!
Holy crap this looks awesome
Hi, I really would like to connect my outilne shader with your shader from this tutorial but I don’t have any idea how should I make it :cc Is it possible for you to explain it? Thanks a lot! Ur tutorials are the best!
Hey I doubt you'll see this but im about 20 minutes in, and my skybox is also being affected by the toon shader. Im not sure what to do just yet but it doesnt seem like you're having that problem. Any help from anyone would be great
a little outdated but good enough to help me with UE5.4
youre the best
Fantastic tutorial, many thanks. Does anyone know how would I change the custom depth pass to exclude from having the outline, and make objects have the outline by default instead?
Clairement le meilleur tutoriel sur le Cube Grid. Une raison de plus d'aller à Tahiti 😉
Amazing work bro! I love ur content and i hope you continue making more stuff
I love that you show the bloopers at the end, very encouraging
I used default control rig at 5.3 and got inaccurate baking result at hands and fingers. Any solution?
This was so easy to follow! do you by any chance plan on making a tutorial on how to do this for Mobile? Scene Textures have version issues unfortunately.
THIS TUTORIAL IS JUST PERFECT! I was looking for something like that but couldn't find it in my language(I'm Brazilian) .All the tutorials I found were about editing the basic third-person template of unreal. So I decided to search in English and I found you! Even though I don't understand English 100%, I can understand and apply everything you say in the video. I just want to thank you, man. Keep making these videos!! 💟
Great video and explanation. I'm literary teaching this to a class tomorrow morning and this has helped so much 😅 cheers mate 👍
Hey you're welcome! Glad to know I could help a fellow teacher 😁
Thank you! But do you know how to resize a shape without both ends moving inward/outward in the same time? I just want to rize one end only.
thank you very much for this really nice video. It helped me a lot and you're a very cool guy. <3
Thanks a lot, friend! 😁
very very helpful
this is really the best toon shader i did it same but added if to the start to get more separations in the shadow and made the color part you did two dark colors and it does metallic pretty cool
This video helped me so much, thanks for being such a great guy Evans, keep up the good work. Lots of love from Norway <3 !
谢谢你,你真是太棒了
I'm a disabled Vet trying to make good use of my time now that my lifestyle has drastically changed. You are an incredible and thorough teacher. God bless you, my friend, and thank you for your help. I have subscribed to you.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for subscribing! I truly admire your strength and resilience. God bless, and thank you for your service!
Not sure if anyone mentioned, but I'm about 45 minutes into this. Everything is great so far, but I was having issues when I moved the thumbstick on the gamepad, where the camera would keep moving. I added a dead zone modifier to nullify that.
Duude, why did no one tell me about Unreals modelling tools before!!
👏
your pp has a outline shader very cool hahaha i had to
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Un des meilleurs tuto sur UA-cam !! Merci beacuoup, je crée un jeu avec un style Cartoon et ce tuto ma vraiment beaucoup aidé.
The Before Tonemapping blendable location was removed in 5.4, but Before DOF (the default) works best out of the new options. Some have said Before Bloom looks the most similar but I get super jittery shadows with it.
I followed along easily but once i got to 21:42 my colors were inverted, I have white where black should be, anyone got any idea's what i did wrong (nothing, different UE5 version)? Edit: Problem solved, something changed between UE5 versions, you require inverting the color values with a OneMinus node between the Step and output result in the MM_DetectEdges_Depth material.
Please make more tutorials Evans, yours are some of the best on youtube, but they are sadly infrequent.
for some reason the constant 2 vector node shows up as X and Y instead of R and G for me
Same.
This is a very good tutorial! I am using UE5.3 right now and it's still working! Every move you make is very clear . As a beginner this video helped me a lot. Thank you!
bon accent et super tuto 👍
Thanks Evans, amazing tutorial as always, you are one of the best tutors out there 🙏 One thing I thought about - when we do reshadowing, you mix in original PostProcessInput0 back. However, since it contains lighting information, original shadows will be mixed back in as well, right? I thought about different way for including original color - you can divide PostProcessInput1 by light intensity we calculated at the start to remove lighting from it and only leave color (with lighting colors included). Then you use it instead of Base Color when multiplying by new light, so it will only contain new shadows, while keeping colors from light source :)
Great video! Great bloopers too!
Love the ending😂😆😂😆😂
Amazing tutorial. I have some theoretic basic knowledge about rigging but always been to lazy to try. Even though I used the awful Mixamo skeleton, I managed to follow along and get everything working - just one issue, my toes are not following the IK of the legs/feet. I am not sure how to solve it, so if anyone has a tipp, I'd be grateful!
Thank you ❤
It was a pain to create a custom rig to some skeleton that was made really awfull (bones coordinates and positions were a total mess) but still was able to finish and create some animations. Thanks for the tutorial!
How can you combine this and the toon shader in your other video? They seem to cancel each other and the outline is super faded...
Better explanation of the control rig than the official tutorial
16:04 i have followed the tutorial to the letter, but for me weirdly the shadow and light tint parameter wont show changes in the viewport, In the PPI Material preview it changes, but in the scene it does not take effect for some reason. Edit: In fact none of the parameters seems to come through, unless they are the default set in the shader itself, no matter the changes i make to the PPI values, they only preview, but never apply to the scene. 17:13 For me, actually enabling Lumen fixed the artifacts, having it disabled caused it, i supposed they fixed it !
