Hello, we are having problems finding "Search & Replace / Mirror. 29:26 It does not appear in version 5.3. There are quite a few that have the same problem. Is there a solution to fix this?
I kinda got stuck on that for far longer than I would like to admit. Stopping the tutorial to scourge the net for an answer for these missing tools. But there's an apt military phrase I've been trying to internalize that works here too: "There are two types of people; the ones that try to find their missing glow stick batteries and those that move on to the next task".
For someone that has just started the blender and Unreal dive of exploring how the two software's work you do a great job showing step by step and i just want to say thank you so much for showing people like me how it can be done in a way even new people can understand!
Hello Evans, this tutorial is amazing. Un grand merci! I have no idea if others are encountering this as well but I've got two issues: When applying this to UE5 Manny and exporting linked anim sequences, the anim sequence preview shows a lot of stretching of the mesh (but does not do so after retargetting UE5->UE4 and it does not show so in-game). Second issue (might be solved, read the EDIT): you can not see it in the video but the arm IK leaves the arms a bit wrangled. You can see it if you use a human mesh. Did you notice that and did you find something for it? EDIT: For the second issue, i noticed leaving the secondary axis empty solves the problem and IK works 100% In any case, un très très grand merci.
Hi RA! Thank you for your feedback on this tutorial! Hum... unfortunately I've never encountered an issue like this one... Maybe it's a bug with UE5? As for your second issue, maybe it's because I've mixed the secondary axis in my tutorial? Someone told me that I didn't put the correct value, but I didn't see it lol Thanks again and have a great one!
Hi DH! Thanks a lot for your feedback 😊 Indeed, when working on this tutorial, I wanted the viewers to learn things and not necessarily replicate everything that I'm doing ^^ Thanks again and have a great one! 😁
Yeah, excellent! Love how you showed all our options. Really good. Can I ask you to enhance this with Part-2 on how to implement joint constraints so the model does not break in Level Sequence. Also, do metahumans already have a control Rig build on import? Look forward to seeing more ControlRig from Evans!
Hey thank you so much Ivan for your feedback 😁 Unfortunately, since I'm not an animator, I must admit that I don't know what a joint constraint is 😕 Can you explain what you mean by that? If I can, I'll do a second part! And yes metahumans already have a control rig. Thanks again Ivan and good luck on learning more about this wonderful tool!
@@evansbohl hey !!! U kind of already show it … it’s the limits on the range of motion in the transforms of the bones. I am just looking for a more in depth version of that. For example the Rotational values of the arm and pole vector break my arm model. … so, 1st how do we zero xyz transform values enabling me to know more accurately how much to limit and it what direction to set the values.
I have an error using the Parent Constraint node. This causes the arrays for the FKChain to be out of range without reason. Even having the node in the graph with no connections causes this error to prevent the FKChain node from working. To resolve this, instead, I had to match the example third-person control rig and use the Set Transform - Bone with the pelvis bone and the pelvis control. Has anyone else experienced this error?
Just double-checked, and this makes the SimpleMirrorFK function unusable; any solution to this sort of error would be greatly appreciated! Edit: This must be some weird experimental bug. Creating a second parent constraint node, and deleting the one with errors on it, fixes the issue. Copying the Parent Constraint node is fine, but I can never right-click and make a Parent Constraint node without having that node create errors.
Hey sorry for the really late reply, I didn't see your comment! Unfortunately these kinds of error happen a lot in control rig. Like you said, they are some kind of false positive due to the fact that it's still at an experimental phase ^^
I love the tutorial. It's a great tutorial. I never had the same axis in the settings. Every time he'd say "and put 90 degrees on the Y" I'd just sigh, pause, put 90 into each axis one by one until something worked or didn't and then move on.
@@evansbohl Yeah, i assumed it was because I was using a Mixamo character. It wasn't too much of a hassle, and the tutorial was still very very helpful.
Now that I've followed your instructions, I can't even begin to describe how grateful I am. Your tutorials are amazing. So much detail, so thoughtfully stated. I used to feel frustrated while I was learning control rig, but now it's whala. One more request Evans can you do same type for Face rig it will great. thank you
Thank you for taking the time to create this tutorial. It's helped me to understand how to create my own initial idle animation from which I can them learn more. thanks!!
Thanks to this tutorial (and a little experimenting) I finally understand how control rig works. What I have done is added nodes in the forward solve such that first the controls themselves are set to the locations of bones (turning off the ability to move the controls). This allows setting another animation in sequencer. I then make a key for every control, then edit the control rig so that just the controls set bones (and not the other way around). And finally this allowed me to make edits for animations using the control rig. It's a game changer since I can start animating with a set pose and make edits to existing animations.

As a programmer, control rig is an amazing feature that makes it so much easier to create procedural animations without knowing much about animation. Of course it's better to still know these things still.
It was a pain to create a custom rig to some skeleton that was made really awfull (bones coordinates and positions were a total mess) but still was able to finish and create some animations. Thanks for the tutorial!

Hey Roman! Haha that's the first time someone call me a god 😁 Thanks a lot! I'm glad to know I could help you better understand how control rig works 😊
if anyone's getting tripped up at 44:30 when he changes the control type from "Euler" to "Float", Unreal seems to change the transform offset back to 0,0,0 when you change the control type. You have to go back to 42:35 and do that bit again. Not sure if this is just me, or a change in Unreal Engine since the video came out
Thanks Toupin for the info, maybe it's a problem related to the version of the engine? Anyway, thanks again, I think it will be useful to other viewers as well 😊
It's like you pick everything that I have a question about and make a tutorial about it! This is a brilliant video! I also loved the rapid map making tutorial! Looking forward to more - great job!
@@evansbohl It's clear that you do. Keep up the great work. I completed my character rig and have made 5 animation sequences already which I really didn't want to do in blender! Thanks you for this
for ue5.3, to lock the transform's min and max at 3:18, you'll have to go into the property matrix. To do that, you just select the root_ctrl, and in the details tab, up at the top, right next to the searchbar, you can find a small button to the right of it that kinda looks like the outline of a calculator, when you hover over it, it says "Edit Selection in Property Matrix" click on it, and it'll open a new tab, with a new details section that should have the min and max buttons listed. Now continue following the tutorial. This is the way that I've found, but I'm still new to ue5, so it could really do anything, hopefully this is the proper way to do it, if you have any other suggestions, feel free to reply.

FYI, for the fingers, instead of dividing by the max value, you can also use the "remap" node and plug the maximum value of the get control float to the source maximum value of the remap node.

Hey! Thank you so much for your feedback! It's awesome to know that I can help people with my knowledge of the engine 😊 As for your request, unfortunately I'm not an animator so I won't be the correct person to teach how to author animations. Hi TechnoKratZ! Wow thank you so much for this awesome feedback on my tutorial 🙏💙 It takes a lot of time to record these kinds of video, and seeing comments like yours makes me want to go even farther and create more content 😊 Thank you!
Very good and complete tutorial, thanks Evans! But I found a problem with the upperarms and lowerarms and to solve that I created upperarm controls and parented to the arm nulls, then the upperarms parented to lowerarms, then lowerarms parented to hands and then hands to finger nulls and finger controls. I also change type of kinematics to the fingers and added FK instead of arrows to the fingers to bend them, so I have created controls to all the bones 1, 2, 3 of the fingers and used forward kinematics instead of the type of your tutorial, just for more accurate fingers movements and bending, that I prefer that way, but we can use also your type. THANKS FOR THE TUTORIAL, I really appriciate your video, it's the most complete one, thanks.
Very good video! well explained, very didactic. As a programmer, I have some difficulty understanding modeling, animation, these more artistic things and I had no doubts with your video! Congratulations. I wanted to ask you for a logical continuation of this video. It would be very interesting to have a channel that shows the connection of things. You showed how to create the control rig and how to create an animation sequence, now I could continue showing how to use these animations in a blendspace for example. Thanks.

Hi! First of all, great tutorial! The best one I have seen on this topic. However, I have some questions: 1. Can you record a video/explain how you would set the control rig so it helps with "two-handed" animations? (Where our character holds a wood ax or double-handed weapon, for example) 2. Do you have any recommendations for specifying mins and maxes for the control rig? That could help a lot with the animation-making process! Greetings!
Hello hello! Thanks for the feedback on my video! 😁 As for your questions: 1. Hum, intuitively, what I would do is create controls for moving each hand separately so that I can stick them to the two handed weapon, and a third control that will move both two hands at the same time for moving the weapon along with the two hands that are stuck on it. 2. I think you can have a look at limits. I can't open unreal at the moment but I think it's called Limits :)

Great tutorial! I really like that you showed many different techniques and not just repeated the same steps over and over again.
This is by far the best tutorial for how to actually create animations in Unreal 5. Thank you for all your hard work!
Thank you Solar Falcon 🙏😊 It's awesome to know that this tutorial is still relevant today!
@@MrHiiii5 you just solved my problem, thanks!
Hey sorry for the really late reply, I didn't see your comment! Unfortunately these kinds of error happen a lot in control rig. Like you said, they are some kind of false positive due to the fact that it's still at an experimental phase ^^
I've looked at at least 10 control rig tutorials and found yours as the easiest to follow and best one i've found. thank you!
Oh thank you so much for this kind feedback 🙏💙
dude, this video is an educational video on how tutorials should be made first of all and then a tutorial for animation, amazing one, keep it up!
I love the tutorial. It's a great tutorial. I never had the same axis in the settings. Every time he'd say "and put 90 degrees on the Y" I'd just sigh, pause, put 90 into each axis one by one until something worked or didn't and then move on.
Hi! I'm sorry that it happened to you :/ Were you using a custom character?
@@evansbohl Yeah, i assumed it was because I was using a Mixamo character. It wasn't too much of a hassle, and the tutorial was still very very helpful.
Now that I've followed your instructions, I can't even begin to describe how grateful I am. Your tutorials are amazing. So much detail, so thoughtfully stated. I used to feel frustrated while I was learning control rig, but now it's whala. One more request Evans can you do same type for Face rig it will great. thank you
Thank you for taking the time to create this tutorial. It's helped me to understand how to create my own initial idle animation from which I can them learn more. thanks!!
Thank you Thank U very Much i can't believe followed one hour tutorial without any miss guiding or errors.
It's a game changer since I can start animating with a set pose and make edits to existing animations.
so basically you have successfully setup the Backwards Solve based on this one? Did you figure it out with the fingers control as well?
@@becmuda174 Not 100% backwards solve but it's close enough for me. The fingers are not perfectly aligned but it's not really visible in game with montage blend times.
@@arturzolkos2859 pardon, I don't really understand ya, so you mean that you don't need to edit the fingers in an existing animation?
Omg! The blueprint for fingers saves lifes! It's really great! Thank you!
i was literally looking for a video like this about six months ago and i gave up but thanks to you i can continue what i was working on thanks allot man! I really appreciate tutorials like this. Your amazing man, thanks allot and keep it up.
Hi Winston! Thank you so much for this awesome feedback 🙏 It's always a great pleasure to know that I can help people with my knowledge of the engine! Glad to know I could help you unlock your problem 😊
Same dude! i thought we needed external animation software
You deserve garden full of gold. Wish you all the best, and an awesome holiday time that is around the corner. Thanks Evans.
This is the only UE control rig video that really gets the job done! Thank you!
Awesome to read this! Thanks a lot Yin for your feedback 😁
Voilà! new sub. I loved it. I am pleasantly surprised that you showed so many ways of doing the same thing going from rudimentary to more a complex setup. It just helped to organize things in my brain. Great stuff, thanks!
Wow, now I'll look all your videos in english. It will be inprouve my English and my skill in UE5 at same time !
Best teacher ever !!!
Haha thanks a lot my friend! Glad to know you like my tutorials in english too 😁
This video is amazing and helped me immensely, few things they've changed but got everything working eventually, love your accent too btw. Keep up the good work, I subscribed because this video is so good.
Hi Metamorph! Thank you so much for this awesome feedback 😊🙏 Glad to know you like my accent too! I try to hide it a bit, but reading this kind of comments makes me want to stay like I am 😁
Oh my god, Im new to unreal engine and this tutorial has so much information and easy to understand.
Please upload more videos any kind of tutorials, your explanation is a legend bro.
Keep it up!!
Thank youuu for your feedback 😊🙏
Bro, you are an absolute legend! I am still getting the hang of Control Rigs and have watched a number of videos on it. Yours is by far the best! Thank you for all the work and time you invest in this!
Man thank you so much for this awesome comment 🙏 It's extremely rewarding to know that viewers appreciate the amount of work I put into each of my tutorials 😁 Thanks again and have an awesome one!
As a programmer, control rig is an amazing feature that makes it so much easier to create procedural animations without knowing much about animation. Of course it's better to still know these things still.
I totally agree with you! I'm not an animator myself, but having these kinds of tools makes things much more easier for programmers :D
This is the best control rig tutorial I ever come across!
This is how tuts should be made! I JUST LOVE THIS! Thank you so much!
one of the best tutorial I ever watched. Thx
It was a pain to create a custom rig to some skeleton that was made really awfull (bones coordinates and positions were a total mess) but still was able to finish and create some animations. Thanks for the tutorial!
This is one of the best explanation I have seen , I've followed your tutorial now, and I have no words to express my gratitude. Love your tutorials. So much info and so carefully explained. Liked and subscribed 👍👍👍🌼🌼🌼🌺🌺🌺
Thank you Robert 🙏😊 It's awesome to know that my way of teaching can help people achieve what they want with Unreal 😁 This makes me want to continue on making more tutorials!
You've got the best control rig tutorial out there. Thano you for the effort!
Thank you man. You sure know what you're doing and how to explain it. Perfect pace and information density. Well done.
Hi Julio! Thank you! It's awesome to know that viewers like my content 💙
Man, you're the God of animation! It's really amazing! You have no idea how much you helped me!
Hey Roman! Haha that's the first time someone call me a god 😁 Thanks a lot! I'm glad to know I could help you better understand how control rig works 😊
@@evansbohl Tnx Bro! You are the best!😉
Your a legend, I've been going around in circles lately and this tutorial has helped me a lot. Thanks
Hi Michael! Thank you for this awesome feedback 😁 Glad to know I could help you unlock your situation 😊
Might be the best tutorial video I`ve watched recently, using different methods to solve the same task is really clear and inspiring, thank you!🥰
Hey Tristan! You're very welcome! I'm glad it was useful to you 😁
if anyone's getting tripped up at 44:30 when he changes the control type from "Euler" to "Float", Unreal seems to change the transform offset back to 0,0,0 when you change the control type.
Hello Mark! I'm glad to know you like my tutorials 😁 I put so much effort into making them that seeing people enjoying my content is rewarding 😊
@@evansbohl It's clear that you do. Keep up the great work. I completed my character rig and have made 5 animation sequences already which I really didn't want to do in blender! Thanks you for this
Awesome tutorial! Many thanks. Everything is well explained and is easy to follow.
Hey Kian! Thank you for this awesome feedback! I'm glad to know I can help people with my knowledge of the engine 😊
for ue5.3, to lock the transform's min and max at 3:18, you'll have to go into the property matrix.
This is the way that I've found, but I'm still new to ue5, so it could really do anything, hopefully this is the proper way to do it, if you have any other suggestions, feel free to reply.
thanks for the nicely explained tutorial. Also that blue progress bar on every segment is pure gold lol!
Hey Morpai! Thanks a lot for your feedback! I like the blue progress bar too! I think it helps keep up with the rythm :)
Thank you! I love your tutorials, most comprehensive tutorials there are! You are a God's blessing sir!
Thank you so much for this kind feedback 🙏😊
Your explanations are clear and concise. So helpful. Thank you for this tutorial.
You're very welcome! I'm glad it was helpful, thank you for the feedback 😊
Evans, thank you. Your Unreal tutorials are really good.
Merci! This in depth tutorial is very clear and so many great tips. All packed in less than an hour. Keep the great work!
Hi Robin! Merci beaucoup! Yeah I tried to put as much knowledge as I could in this video so that viewers can keep learning control rig by themselves. It's great to read all these kind feedbacks 😁
Wonderful! The chapter time out really helps for pointing the episodes.
Hi Activemotionpictures! Thank you very much for your feedback! I agree, chapters are a great way to find your way in each tutorial and watch only the parts that are the most useful for you 😊 Thanks again and have a great one!
Just getting into game development and trying to get familiar with the basics, and it is impossible to find tutorials with both good content and someone likeable sharing it. You are awesome! Please dont stop making videos!
Hi Casey! Better explanation of the control rig than the official tutorial
Hi, I really liked your video, your approach is awesome, as some commentators said you don't hurry and don't make it unnecessary slow, it's super easy to listen to to you because you dont stumble every 2 seconds. I would really appreciate if you made a series of videos on advanced locomotion system. I know it would take a lot of time, but Im getting desperate, there are tons of videios on this topic, but they explain easy stuff and leave out things like curves etc. anyway I wont stop searching for a good tutorial but if you made it, it would be great. Thanks again
Probably the best UR5 related content on the web. Thank you, Evans!
Thanks a lot Alexander! 🙏😊
FYI, for the fingers, instead of dividing by the max value, you can also use the "remap" node and plug the maximum value of the get control float to the source maximum value of the remap node.
Hi! Thanks for the info! Even if I use it often, I don't know why but I didn't think of using it when recording the tutorial haha
you make the best ue5 tutorials of all time
Thank you Focus 💙
Evans Thanks a lot! This is an incredible tutorial. I hope you keep uploading more videos!
Man I haven't watched the video yet but seeing you are now making them in English is awesome. Thanks a lot! Keep them coming.
Hey LMBits! Great to see you on this channel! Thanks! I will try to post a new video at least once every two weeks 😊
Thank you for that tutorial! Trying sporadically animating stuff in different applications since 3d studio max 😀This is the first time I managed to animate a character. So happy I found your channel!
Hey Markus! Thank you for this awesome feedback! I'm so happy to know that I can help people from our community learn more things about Unreal Engine 😊
This tutorial finally got this working for me
Ever since getting into game dev I have always wanted to learn how to make animations. This is such a huge help and I very much appreciate your detailed tutorials. Could we possibly get a tutorial on how to create a walking or running animation, this would be a huge help.
Hey! Thank you so much for your feedback! It's awesome to know that I can help people with my knowledge of the engine 😊 As for your request, unfortunately I'm not an animator so I won't be the correct person to teach how to author animations. Maybe you can search for blender tutorials on the subject and try to replicate it in Unreal Engine?
The best and detailed ue5 control rig tutorial I had ever seen. Followed from beginning to end. Thanks for the wonderful video. Cheers ❤️
Hi TechnoKratZ! Wow thank you so much for this awesome feedback on my tutorial 🙏💙 It takes a lot of time to record these kinds of video, and seeing comments like yours makes me want to go even farther and create more content 😊 Thank you!

Great tutorial, great video production, no unnecessary background music etc... subbed 4 life copain 👍
Hi Omer! Thank you for this awesome feedback and for the subscription! Glad to know people appreciate the work I put into each video 😊
Thanks.
Hey General Novais! Thank you so much for this feedback! As a programmer myself, I totally understand the struggle you can have with these artistic parts of the engine. I'm really glad to know that I could help you with my tutorial 😊 As for your request, I plan on releasing more animation tutorials in the near future, especially one for how to setup a third person character with all of his animations 😁
Immense thanks! I already have played with the control rigs in the past, but didn't know how to make ones for specialty creatures and characters. Also, I can't believe how simple the animation mode is now for making custom anims! Thanks for making this tutorial. You sir have earned a subscriber! Amazing :)

Hey HideousFox! Thank you so much for this comment! I've never had feedback on my voice haha It's cool to know that it sounds good 😊 Thanks again, have a great one and good luck on your learning!
Hi!
First of all, great tutorial! The best one I have seen on this topic.
However, I have some questions:
1. Can you record a video/explain how you would set the control rig so it helps with "two-handed" animations?
(Where our character holds a wood ax or double-handed weapon, for example)
2. Do you have any recommendations for specifying mins and maxes for the control rig? That could help a lot with the animation-making process!
Greetings!
i have the same problem where i cant specify the mins and maxes. If you already found an solution i would be greateful for the answer :)
Hello hello! Thanks for the feedback on my video! 😁 As for your questions:
WOW! What a fantastically performed tutorial. Detailed, to the point, and well explained step by step. This is probably the best tutorial I have ever seen. Great Job Evans, I'm going to keep an eye on your channel. Looking forward to more UE5 content. Liked and subed. Cheers.
