After seeing this and her first movie Revenge, I really think the writer director Coralie Fargeat is going to be someone to watch out for. She has a VERY clear artistic vision, great technical execution, and seems absolutely fearless. Revenge rocks too. Another somewhat new director that really impressed me this year is Arkasha Stevenson who did The First Omen. That movie was *amazing*. #girlsgetitdone apparently in horror 🤷🏻‍♂️. They’re fucking killing it

I enjoyed listening to your running commentary on the unfolding storyline of, 'The Substance', Rae, while pointing out cogent scenes and scenarios that define the eccentric, sci-fi/body horror plotline. Your enthusiasm for the movie was key to holding my interest. But most of all, I enjoyed hearing your expressive, 'f' bombs to underscore the movie's less than desirable male supporting actors. Your long fingers made for a superb, flip-the-bird gesture at station network chief editor and producer, Harvey.

Ironically, this movie has little substance

Personally I agree that the lack of subtlety was a good thing. I think that for a movie like this basically everybody who watches it is coming in with some level of complacency. We all have already heard the stories about women destroying themselves for the sake of "their appearance" (or more specifically what their appearance can get for them). We all know it happens IRL. We've all probably had nasty thoughts about our own appearances. There have even been prior movies with the exact same messages and themes. Yet nothing changes, it's just normalized. I think the writer wanted to really just bash it over our heads and remind us that this is a gross, shocking, unnatural thing.

No shade to anyone named Sue, by why on earth would a young girl like this pick a name from the Great Depression 😂?

If you think of THE SUBSTANCE as a feminist version of DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE, that makes the "single consciousness" angle much easier to understand. Also, the film is something of a Greek tragedy, because Elisabeth/Sue is ultimately destroyed by a Fatal Flaw---her extreme self-hatred. Also, also, it's a bit of a fable or fairy tale, governed throughout by "fairy tale logic," so there's no point in obsessing over the details (like Sue's complete lack of documentation).

I've watch so mnay other people react to this movie and you are the FIRST person I've seen make the comparison of it being like an anti-Cinderella story, after you said that I wanna rewatch the movie again with that theme in mind. Great reaction & insights!!! :)

I don't think I've ever heard Homelander just be STRAIGHT UP RACIST!! I mean he's like a "supe supremacist" or whatever... But he's never just OUTRIGHT FUCKING RACIST LIKE STORMFRONT!! When that bitch told that girl's brother to "open his eyes" because she wanted to see the "light leave them", then called him a "yellow" something that WAS OBVIOUSLY RASCIST!! Homelander is like the Hitler of the Boys, he wants to wipe the non-supes off the planet and believes they are "lesser" than supes... Storefront not only thinks that humans are lesser, but she's willing to kill them ANYWHERE OR ANYTIME!!

So when you put the V into a kid it will manifest as random powers... Anything from Marie's blood shit, to Cait's COMPLETELY INSANE PSYCHIC POWERS!! When a supe takes V though... It just AMPLIFIES whatever that person's power is... WHICH IS WHY A-TRAIN WAS USING BEFORE HIS RACE!! He thought he was going to lose, so he JUICED THE SHIT OUT OF HIMSELF!! It's basically like an athlete doing SUPER STEROIDS!!

It is kind of incredible that this movie is getting awards attention, and I am here for it!!! Speaks volumes of how voters' tastes are evolving (these last few years alone we have had PARASITE, EEAAO, POOR THINGS and many more win various Oscars, and none of these movies would have come even remotely close to Oscars attention just a decade prior). Also helps that a massive international voter expansion in recent years has helped these movies win too.

There’s is no Sue or Elizabeth. They’re both Elizabeth. The way it clicks is because Elizabeth recognized the guy “Sue” hooked up with, and the older version of the nurse recognized Elizabeth. Sue is pretty much just a costume. The point is Elizabeth hates herself so much that she’s bound to find fault with any version of herself, even the younger “better” version.

This movie made my friend group vow to keep each other accountable so we can age gracefully.

When I first heard about this film I thought it was going to be about that stupid QAnon adrenochrome conspiracy theory. Basically they claim that Hollywood and Democratic elites kidnap and torture children to harvest adrenochrome from them because that's what they thought they used to stay young.

Without a doubt one of 2024s highlights. Truly deserving of recognition at the Oscar’s; picture, director, original screenplay, lead actress, supporting actress, cinematography, sound and of course makeup. If the academy ignores it completely, I will have officially lost all hope in them being relevant ever again.

This is like "The Notebook Allie becoming lucid only to drift away again" type of heart-wrenching damnit!!!

I see the other comments here saying Jinx is alive, and maybe she is. But that was not the feeling when the show ended. At first i had a similar feeling of loving the show but being conflicted about Jinx's death. But the more i thought about it and the season as a whole I recalled all the times Jinx either tried to kill herself or asked for death (e.g. asking Vi to kill her in episode 3, saying how she can't seem to die, telling Cate to kill her in episode 8, her literally trying to kill herself over and over again in the last episode while the lyrics "just let me go" played). She has had so much pain and suffering in her life (and caused so much pain and suffering also) and wanted it to end. Her doing it while saving her sister was her best case scenario. It is not the ending we wanted for her, but i do think it is the ending she wanted for herself.

You still don't know that Powder and Elko already dating in that universe. That's why Pretending like it's the first time.

A bit of ACT II And ACT III Was Foreshadowing That Jinx was Going to leave Zaun & Piltover. 1. was in ACT II when Jinx was using an Empty Chair Technique in Silco's Office thinking about what Sevika said,but also missing her adoptive Father as well "If you Really want me to be a part of your sstupid Revolution game,then speak up now, or I guess that means Your REALLY GONE AND THERE'S NO POINT STAYING HERE ANYMORE". 2. Ekko & AU Vander had lines which were also foreshadowing that Jinx is leaving and AU Powder should leave. "Some Times to take a leap forward means having to LEAVE A FEW THINGS BEHIND" Jinx ended up leaving Her Sister,Her Home and Her Soulmate Behind to take a Leap to move forward. Vander to AU Powder "As Good as it feels to pour everyone's drink, YOU HAVE TO FILL YOUR OWN,now and again" "YOUU'RE TOO SMART TO SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE IN A BAR" Jinx's Inner Silco says " Perhaps the only way to break the cycle iS TO FIND THE WILL TO WALK AWAY" Ekko "ITS NEVER TOO LATE TO BUILD SOMETHING NEW, Jinx left to Build A New Life, She found the Will To Walk Away...Fly Away Given the hints in the Arcane ArtBook most likely heading to BilgeWater, Jinx has drawn a Big Heart around the place with Snobs written over Demacia. The Very last bit of foreshadowing was when Jinx was back to back with Vi again, that Even Got Vi suspicious. Jinx says "You Still Don't Get Uh! Sis, I'M ALWAYS WITH YOU,EVEN WHEN WE'RE WORLDS APART". Vi turned her head towards Jinx after she said that, as if she was thinking "what does she mean WHEN WE'RE WORLDS APART". Knowing more details about the deleted scenes between Jinx and Ekko and how he got through to her and how there was meant to be a mirrored romantic montage to the one Ekko had in the AU and Jinx and Ekko Rally the Undercity and Paint eachother, and Jinx seemed resolved when Ekko and Jinx Ruin Ambessa;s Big Moment. I think it is safe to say Jinx Told Ekko after she is done helping fight the Noxians, She should leave for awhile or for good,keep in mind Jinx develops feelings for Ekko or develops more feelings for him, The Artbook is covered in Timebomb Jinx loving Ekko writing. So Jinx could be so afraid of having another person she cares for meet a tragic fate just being with her,long enough. Regardless if it is just for awhile or for good her motive for leaving is bittersweet. Ekko gets the Casablanca ending of the Girl flying away while Ekko stays behind, The paper he burns turns out to have Powder's name on it,not Jinx. We will See Jinx again, and Ekko. I do wonder if Cait understood Why Jinx Faked her death because she figured it out, that Vi's sister is Alive. What is the right thing to do?. Will Cait keep it to herself so Jinx can build a new life for herself, or is it better to reassure Vi her sister still lives?.
