I completely understand where you are coming from as far as getting burned out on what is currently available, especially in Sci-fi entertainment. Being a major fan of Frank Herbert's Dune novels, I've become more and more disenchanted with the second part of Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of the first book. It's an epic film, but I think Villeneuve strayed too far from the source material and I'm not sure how that can have any positive outcome for his adaptation of Dune Messiah. As far as your videos are concerned, it is best to wait until you find something of real personal interest to report on. Best of luck.

Despite what kurtzman says this is obviously a slightly different variant timeline. Partially brought about by the changes in 2009 Star Trek movie. I think it's okay because this way they don't have to absolutely adhere to strict past Cannon and it gives the writers some flexibility. Robert April being a white guy in the 70s cartoon and now obviously being portrayed by a African-American actor I don't think that's a big deal. Robert April is a much lesser known character and I think that the current actor did a very admirable job playing Robert April I look forward to seeing more of his acting in this particular role in Star Trek strange new worlds. If it was the character of Kirk or Spock it would be much more of an issue but since again Robert April was a lesser known character I think they can get away with it. We also have to know and understand that while Canon is important and I love Canon I'm not as strict seeing how this is a different timeline. We also have to give each generation a little bit of leeway here and there for their new vision for Star Trek each generation will present it differently.

I also read the book and and listened to the audio at the same time in addition to listening to chapter by chapter reviews here. I actually saw the movies first and loved them so much I had to read the book. I don't know if anyone else felt this way, but I felt a deep sadness after I finished and I'm wondering if it's because I know what Paul is becoming, has become. Not sure. Thank you so much! Messiah won't be the same without you :)

As someone who sees Revenge of the Sith as the best Star Wats movie, I have to say the people aren’t wrong. This novel is incredible and does the story even better than the film. This goes for the other prequel novelizations but the Episode III one especially.

I wonder how much is the strength of the fremen is the environment as in guerilla warfare or is it the fact they are just so strong they are able to beat them in the open field. Hawat states that the fremen beat the sadaukar with a 5 to 1 attrition. If that is head to head in the open field that is a almost mythical level feat. 5 to one men is whats required(roughly) to seige a castle post seige equipment. They must be using the environment to their advantage and in that case how would they preform outside of a desert planet it seems like their effectiveness would fall off a cliff. Sorry for the lengthy text its just been on my mind and this book has made me ponder alot of stuff. Maybe it will be explained later

The main reason was he made a cast member (unnamed) uncomfortable. The other info is not very incriminating however adds credibility to the accusation….he was making a coworker uncomfortable so bottom line is that is not acceptable. The fact so many came forward means where there is smoke there is fire, ie, it is his MO.

I actually enjoyed Paul of Dune. But you have to read all the house books to enjoy it.

I'm gonna imagine the Space Guild Navigators as Kerbals and be done with it.

I had to skip this chapter because I didn't know wtf was going on.

One of the best chapters in the book. There's something deeply profound and moving about Kyne's death. The way it was handled in the film was a bit hokey in comparison.

I don’t remember where I had read it maybe it was Starlog but the planned sequel was supposed to be called “The Destination of Jared Syn” and Dogen would go into the portal to pursue Jared Syn to the world he escaped to.

Cool bro love what you’re doing I have the book and ask myself if I’ll ever read it sounds like cyberpunk anime a bit but still cool amazing was written in 1984

I appreciate Brian and Kevin's efforts to continue to expand one of sci-fi's most compelling universes that Frank Herbert has established way back in 1965 (now that we're gonna get Dune: Prophecy and hopefully more future TV spin-offs in the near future, which will definitely be inspired by the duo's books). However, I have to admit I'm a little mixed with the quality of their books: primarily they lack the grace and nuances of Frank's writing prose, not to mention they tend to lean into the fantastical and the unbelievable (I roll my eyes whenever I think of the ending from Sandworms of Dune), something you won't find in the original six books (yes, that includes the one with the human/sandworm hybrid).

Why did the feel th eneed to polute the first book's cover with that horrible (and irrelevant with time) "soon to be a movie" sticker...

I’ve said this many times and I’ll say it here…. There is no way that Frank didn’t tell his son the end of his story. Most writers know the end before they even get there. I accept the ending as canon I loved those last 2 books.
