    Interesting! I wonder if the colours that are burgundy/berry do a mixture of red and purple , come off purplish on you bec the red just goes to work countering the green in ur olive skin. So the parts of the burgundy/berry that aren’t complimentary or colour correcting just stand out a lot ? Maybe ? Idk just guessing 😂 but I think oh the red cancels ur green and ur left with the purples from the lip colour standing out more. Idk

    Godddd !!! I have wasted a lot of money on foundations. Warm shade makes me muddy, cool makes me grey, neutral makes me greyish. I am medium fair and i never blush. Orange and yellow colour looks good on me so as navy blue and dark green. Gold jwellery compliments me. My Mac foundation shade is NC25 but that doesnt compliment me. Maybelline 128 makes me grey huda beauty 330N latte is slightly orange for me, hence makes my face muddy...... I am having a hard time in finding foundation.

    i have very dark hair and eyes, and very pale skin. i've never worn foundation, blush, or bronzer, and i feel like if i had been wearing those things, my search to discover my undertone would've started a long time ago. i never wore a lot of eyeshadow - i was mostly a concealer, powder, eyeliner, mascara, lip person. i remember that back in the 90s when i started wearing makeup, i could never find anything that looked good on me. like, ever. eyeshadows were a bust. i'd usually have a quad and just wear the 2 lightest shades, black mascara, black eyeliner. the 90s were pretty simple because it was basically dark brown eyeliner on my lips (which are, or at least were, universally cool) and a pale lipstick/gloss, or my go-to Revlon Blackberry, RIP. but whenever i tried reaching beyond my usual to try different things, different colours, it never went well, and i was incredibly frustrated. my actual search to understand my undertone began about a decade ago, when i tried wearing makeup again after a decade-long hiatus. i could not understand why everying - absolutely everything - looked so horrible on me, like old faded rust. warm/golden foundations/concealers/powders made me look jaundiced. cool/pink ones made me look pinky-grey. everything i tried on my eyes and cheeks was too dark and usually too bright; everything i tried on my lips was too light and way off on colour. i struggled until i found Hannah Louise Poston, the first very pale-skinned person i met who had an olive undertone. i've arrived at the fact that i'm a pale cool olive. very pale, very cool. someone else in the comments talks about how they're always mismatched for foundation shades as being darker than they are for their dark hair/eyes and olive undertone - i feel like that's me as well. i always think the lightest shade will be too light, because of the overtones, redness, dark circles, etc that i have, but the only shade that disappears into my skin is the lightest neutral. i've found a mere handful of beauty folks on youtube who are pale olives, some of them pale cool olives, and i am way cooler than any of them because whenever i try their recommendations they look ruddy, orange, peach on me. here's what i've found i can use so far: - cheek colour: a light, blue-based, lavender/mauve. this is literally the only cheek colour i can get away with. no matter how sheer, anything darker than light makes me look like i have a fever. anything that isn't blue-based violet on me, which is the actual colour i flush, looks horrible. i'm not even bothering with bronzing or contouring because i'd basically have to buy a makeup artists's palette of cream colours and mix my own and i just don't care enough about it to try. i don't wear highlighter because personally i don't like the look on my 45-year-old face. my skin is not shiny by nature, unless i'm sweating, which is not a thing i want to duplicate. i'm not even sure how i feel about blush but if i do want to wear it, i've so far, in the last decade of searching, found one single colour i can wear on my cheeks that makes me glow. that colour is Thistle, by Etherealle (more on them to follow). - eye colours: i can't do my trusted black eyeliner anymore. it looks too stark. i can wear a very small range of colours that include light to light-medium, very muted, blue-based violets, violet-based blues, and blue-based greens (think sage and mint, not aqua or teal). think pastel versions of these, or just slightly darker. i can wear greys that have a lot of green or violet in them, providing they're cool-toned (blue-violet and blue-green undertones). i'm fine with this; these colours are the ones that appeal to me the most. the problem is that, again, in my decade of searching, i've found very few usable things for myself. i've found i've had to look for eyeshadow singles from companies like Sydney Grace, Devinah, and Lethal Cosmetics. the only palette i've found to date, where i can wear absolutely every colour in it except the glitter (because glitter looks awful on me), is the rom&nd Better Than palette in Odd Breeze Garden. it's a very dusty pink- and mauve-based palette - dusty as in grey, not brown. every colour looks fantastic on my skin. i have a beautiful, pale icy blue-green mint eyeliner by Watier in Aqua. - lip colours: my lips, though they appear pale on the surface, actually have a deep purple undertone. the lips that look most flattering on me are (no surprise here) quite muted, blue-based mauves and plums in the medium to deep range. again, it's next to impossible for me to find colours. there's a shop on Etsy called Etherealle and they make the MOST lovely nuanced plum, mauve, and violet shades. my MLBB shade by them is Empress - it's a very dark, muted burgundy that wears on me like a deep, intensely muted purple - the exact colour i flush. i've found exactly two lip liners i can wear: Wet n Wild Plumberry, and NYX Suede Matte in Moonwalk (discontinued).

    i didnt know what was olive skintone until this year , i also think that I'm olive, whenever i wear bright colors it make look more darker, same goes for too warm colors, i havent tried soft cool tone colors because only soft or muted works on me, sometimes i look ashy ( depending of the season and lamp color ), sometimes i look more yellow, i compared my skin to my mom i have more like greyish tone ( same goes with my hair) im turkish so we have very dark hair and brown eyes

  • @dysdaffy6905
    @dysdaffy6905 3 місяці тому

    I guess the bright colors wash you out because you are a warm olive - as you informed us in the beginning of the video -. In my opinion of a cold olive medium skin tone person, i look worst with all oranges, peaches and corals, light brownish shades, yellow and rosey beiges, pastel rose, lavender, all military green shades. My best ones are medium dark shades of berry, grey, brown, blue, green, red and purple/berry, plum, petrol, black and white. The point is the answer to the following question: What does "looking good" means? Apart from personal opinions, the answer is not unilateral. First of all it depends on the temperature of your complexion. In fact olive skin tones are very different one to the other, not only by the depth of the complexion but from the temperatures. I am not an expert myself 😅 but i asked two color analysts before and they both considered my skin tone as neutral-cool. What does it mean? As to begin we should understand that olive is a mix of maily two colors: green and yellow with a little bit of pink. If your complexion contains more yellow hue than probably you have one of the many olive warm skin tones; if in your complexion is more visible the green and greysh hue than you probably have a moderate cool olive tone. In the first case you would look great and healthy in peaches and coral both as regards of make up and wear since those colors are accentuating the yellowish hue of your complexion visibly putting aside the greenish overtone; on the other hand if you are an neutral-cool olive person peaches and yellows may make you look like a Simpson 😂😂 Instead greys, dark and desautorated magentas, plum, cool medium and dark reds, petrol shades make your face look less yellow, brighter, lighter ❤ Ps: i am a deep winter and i need some saturation in colors

    I always find these discussions interesting. I'm in that weird color depth where I am either in the upper medium, medium deep, or lower deep category in foundations and many times my color is simply skipped over. Neutral looks slightly peach on me but most of the time I just go with a neutral or neutral warm in whatever brand. Warm foundations look orange on me. Sometimes I look in the mirror and my face and neck look pretty neutral and other times (like last night) I looked like I had a greenish cast across my face. I'm still on the hunt for a good neutral warm olive in the medium-deep skin tone range that would work well for me.

    2:36 Avoiding bright colors only applies to muted olives, not bright olives. Olive undertoned people who can be warm, cool, or neutral olive undertones in which case these systems tend not to work as they are created for the majority. You an also be neutral leaning towards one or the other and not fully on one end. Add on top of that muted (desaturated) or bright (saturated) well. Bright colors look tame on bright olives. In fact, bright coral looks like a calm blush on cool toned bright olive undertones. It all depends on where one falls in the olive spectrums.

      I agree! I am very fair, but I am a bright cool toned olive. I am not muted, my skin has a very bright yellow/green undertone and my best colors are bright cool toned pinks, bright fuschia and bright oranges like Nars Heat Wave. I can also pull off the pale cool toned pink 60’s look pretty easily. Muted vs clear/bright makes a huge difference.

  • @medtle1
    @medtle1 Рік тому

    Musicalhouses made a descriptive article about how to find your undertone if you are Asian (targeted at East & Southeast Asians, but can also work for South Asians as well) which also included a section about olive undertones. The pink/red-orange-yellow = cool-neutral-warm theory doesn't work if you are Asian and it seems that the chances of having olive undertones are higher if you are Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, indigenous, SWANA, or brown Latino/Latina/Latine. [Even though South Korea still uses the pink/yellow = cool/warm theory, Japan uses the yellow/blue = warm/cool theory instead (which makes sense since cool-toned Asians don't have red or pink undertones and often get miscategorized as warm by non-Asians because of their yellow/brown overtones; the few Asians that naturally have red/pink undertones tend to be multiracial and either part-white or part-black).] Oh. And for anyone wondering why their yellow-based or neutral-based foundation and concealer from American (or any makeup company from a country dominated by white people or founded by a white person) looks so off, too saturated yellow, too pink/red, too orange, or too ashy gray, it is because those makeup companies prioritize white people skin first. Even though they are making more shades now, a lot of the shades that are supposedly for POC tend to be made for white people faking their tans first and would look odd on the POC they claim to be made for. [It affects both the darker and lighter shades made for POC.] The yellow that naturally occurs on POC with yellow overtones and undertones doesn't look anything like the yellow used on fake tanning products and for some reason, white people looking orange or brassy yellow makes their fake tans look more "natural" and makes them look more "exotic". If white people just stop faking their tans AND make an effort to be more inclusive to POC, the yellow-based foundations wouldn't look so odd on POC with yellow undertones and/or overtones and the shades claimed to be for POC wouldn't look so odd and there would be more pale shades available for the white people considered pale by white people standards. [When white people weren't fake-tanning so much, most of the foundations and concealers were pink, peach, or ashy and there were little to no shades for POC and no knowledge of olive undertones. Then, when fake-tanning became popular with white people, darker shades, in-between shades, and more variety of shades became available, but so many of the shades claimed to be for POC looked wrong because they were intended to be for helping white people fake a tan and/or look "exotic" first while matching POC was just an after-thought. Figuring out whether you are warm, cool, or neutral undertone was hard enough, especially for tips that weren't based on white people. Olive undertones didn't even get a lot of buzz until very recently - several years after musicalhouses wrote that article - when female musical artists and actresses started having makeup lines.]

    I saw a picture of Liv Tyler as Arwen in lord of the rings and I instantly recognised her as a pale olive. The green undertone in her skin was so evident, knowing what I know about olives now. Jewel tones look so good on her skin.
