Japan: A Day in My Life | Exploring Kamakura Temples, Hiking TenEn Trail, Eating at Zushi Beach
Living in this part of Japan, I'm able to visit so many temples, shrines, and then pop over to the beach. It's an incredible adventure every day! This video showcases one of those days, walking to the station, hopping on a train, walking, hiking, taking a bus, walking some more, then finally a train home. And taking in all the culture while surviving in the summer heat along the way! Just another day in Japan :)
On today's itinerary in Kamakura:
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu (Kamakura’s most important Shinto shrine)
Kenchoji Temple (Kamakura’s most important Zen temple)
Tenen Hiking Trail
Hokokuji Temple (known as the “Bamboo Temple"; bamboo forest & special matcha experience)
Example Tenen Trail route:

If you're visiting or living in Tokyo and need a little space from the humans and concrete (I get it), then Forest of the Koajiro / Koajiro No Mori is a great option for a day trip hike. Located on the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa, this special ecosystem is a quiet escape into nature. During the summer season, expect lots of flying creatures: birds, bees, wasps, possible hornets Other creatures ...

Episode 6 of my birthday pilgrimage on the Kumano Kodo, Nakahechi Trail. Each day I focused on three meditations as I walked and hiked. Having a day to relax and process the past few days on trail was the perfect ending to this trip. Katsuura is an absolutely gorgeous coastal village and such a different vibe than the mountain villages we passed along the Nakahechi route. The Kumano Kodo Nakahe...

Today started at the Koguchi Campground and ended at: the Kumano Nachi Taisha Grand Shrine, Seiganto-ji Temple, and Nachi-no-Otaki aka Nachi Falls (the tallest waterfall in Japan!). Finally, I took a bus onto Kii-Katsuura. This was my last day on the proper Kum...

Episode 3 of my birthday pilgrimage on the Kumano Kodo, Nakahechi Trail. Each day I focused on three meditations as I walked and hiked. Today started at the Iris Park Campground and ended at Tanabe-Kawayu Campground. Welcome to Episode 2 of my Birthday Pilgrimage on the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Route in Japan! In this episode, I take the first bus out of Tanabe (check out Episode 1 to see what a great city Tanabe is to explore before/after your trip) to Takijiri. I recommend getting there pretty early because other people will as well and the line gets pretty long for the first buses out of town. From Takijiri...

Here we go! This was day one of my Kumano Kodo adventure. I absolutely loved having a day in Tanabe City to check out the cafes and local sites. Kamakura is easily accessible from Tokyo, and I sometimes visit there. It's fun with many temples and shrines, as well as the mountains and the sea. I've never hiked this trail, but drinking matcha in the bamboo forest at Hokokuji Temple is very relaxing.
There is so much to do and see in Kamakura. It’s fun to mix in culture with the hiking so close to home 🤍

Thank you for introducing us to casual Japanese forest. This is the first time I've heard of Koajiro Forest. I'd like to go, but although I love the jumping fish, I'm not a fan of the jumping spiders and vipers. If I were to go, I'd have to wait until the vipers start hibernating.
Thank you for watching a simple video about a special little forest 🤗 I agree about the spiders and snakes. If you go when they are hibernating, the weather will also be nice and cool too.
The chirping of birds is nice
I agree. Beautiful sounds of nature…
vid was a little fishy, but good :)

Great job on this video. Thanks for being realistic. This can help save other people’s life because you are setting a good example. 👍
Appreciate that! Thanks for watching 😊
It’s always the packing up that really sucks
And why does it always feel like it takes forever or I always almost forget something hahah cold fingers or gloved fingers make it interesting too…….it’s sad to leave a beautiful place, but I just keep day dreaming of the diner meal I’ll treat myself to for “surviving” 🤪
As expected, it is a relaxing video. Even for us Japanese, it is a video that makes us want to go there. What moved me this time was the picture of the coastline seen from the sea and the sad appearance of the hot spring in the valley. Nachikatsuura is a seaweed production area. Have you tried it? And although it's a little late, happy birthday! I can't wait for the next series. Where will the next destination be?
I think I tried it while eating lunch in town, but maybe it was a different seaweed hmmm thank you so much for the birthday wishes and for all your support! I think I will share some of my local adventures before I start another bigger adventure very soon 🤩
What a cool little town. Japan is full of gems, just have to get off the well beaten tourist trails. I think you just added another must see to my list.
So true! Even a quiet alley in a busy city can have special untouched places, love that. I want to drive the coast on this peninsula some time and stop for all the little cafes and views ☺️ or just walk it someday hahah
@tinwenwalks my problem would be getting me out of the cafes with views plus a foot onsen. Love finding those mum and dad shops in the back streets.
@ the motivation for leaving is finding the next one 😆
@@tinwenwalks too many cafes, too little time. But the fun is in the hunt. What's next ?

Your third meditation is the reason behind all of my hikes........the solitude of nature lets me commune with my son and search for answers/meaning. My son, Max, speaks to me, in my heart, during these hikes. Thank you for your excellent videos.
I feel this so much, thank you for sharing 🤍 and may you continue find those answers, meaning, and healing along the way
It is clear that America is woefully far behind in vending machine technology.
1,000%….also the dedication to placement here: random alleys, in the middle of a field, top of a mountain….
12 miles is a lot! Especially on Terrain 😊
That’s true! But after the 21 mile day on day 2 of the Kumano, 12 miles didn’t feel crazy hahah I think by the time I walked to my hostel and then to dinner and back, i ended up with 15 miles on the day, enough to make my feet say, hey now ☺️
Thank you nice video 😊
Thank you for watching ☺️
Well done. Your Dad and Nan were with you all the way. I hope you found peace. What a great place to finish the trek. What's next...the Shikoku pilgrimage?
Thank you so much for that 🥹 I absolutely found peace 🤍 There’s more videos from so many adventures to come….and then I have a pretty big journey I’ll announce next month that I didn’t see coming, but I’m very excited for (backpacking related hahah)🤗

I love Murodo! I was so stoked the first time I got there. The weather was bad when we got to Tateyama so, not much of a memory from there. You should try Tsurugidake next time. I’m not sure if that’s something you like doing but 😅 yeah.
Hahah I’ve thought about it! I unfortunately have a fear of heights, I push my limits all the time, but some of these Japanese climbing trails may be past the safe point for my “condition” 🥴😆
I'm getting Virginia vibes from that area. Happy birthday!
Totally 😄 and thank you!
