Canadian Rockies: Four days hiking Jasper's Skyline Trail
There's something freeing about putting on a backpack that has everything you need to survive and walking into the wilderness. Especially when that wilderness is the Rocky Mountains in Jasper National Park.
I was lucky to reserve three nights along the Skyline Trail - the most popular backcountry hike in Jasper. About 25 km is above the tree line making it one of the most scenic hikes in the Rockies. The trail crosses three mountain passes offering a variety of flora, fauna and scenery unique to Jasper National Park, which is one of my favourite places in the world since I grew up in Alberta.
So how did the hike go? Watch and find out!

Even though I've lived on an island for nearly nine years, I've never been on a sailboat - aside from a felucca on the Nile River in Egypt. So when a friend asked if my partner and I would like to join them on an overnight sailing trip to one of the Gulf Islands, I immediately said "yes!" So how did the trip go? Watch and find out! Egypt: Exploring Luxor, the world's greatest outdoor museum
Переглядів 135Місяць тому
I had no idea what to expect when I arrived in Luxor in the middle of a 10-day tour of Egypt with Intrepid Travel. I had seen some incredible sights up to this point, but the temples around Luxor were overwhelming, especially Karnak Temple, which is believed to be the largest religious site in the world. Construction on the temple began about 4,000 years ago, and it was developed over a period ...
Egypt: Sailing through the desert on a felucca
Переглядів 5302 місяці тому
I couldn't help but feel excited when I found out I was going to be sailing down the Nile River on a felucca as part of my Egypt adventure with Intrepid Travel. I've never been on a sailboat, and slowly zig-zagging down the longest river in the world seemed like the perfect way to absorb daily life in Egypt. The adventure begins in the southern city of Aswan, where our crew immediately starts c...
Egypt: Snorkeling in Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada
Переглядів 9592 місяці тому
Like most people, I came to Egypt to experience the ancient tombs built for pharaohs and elaborate temples created to worship hundreds of gods. But many people don’t know that the Red Sea along Egypt’s coast is also one of the best snorkeling destinations in the world. Located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, Sharm El Sheikh is a resort town known for its sheltered sandy beaches, cle...
Egypt: The Pyramids of Giza and temples in Aswan

Egypt is a country that's been on my top 10 travel list for years. Like most travellers, I wanted to experience the ancient tombs built for pharaohs and elaborate temples created for worshipping the gods. The 10-day adventure with Intrepid Travel began in Cairo, exploring the Great Pyramids of Giza, which have stood tall for some 4,500 years. How humans could build such colossal structures back...
Vancouver Island: Off the beaten path in Bamfield
Переглядів 2,2 тис.3 місяці тому
Bamfield is a place many people have likely never heard of, but there's something special about visiting a place that most people don't even know exists. Located in a picturesque inlet on Vancouver Island’s west coast, Bamfield is a secluded, sleepy village of about 300 residents. The community is divided by a long inlet. West Bamfield is only accessible by water taxi and has a boardwalk that c...
Vancouver Island: Up and down the Coast Trail in East Sooke Park

There's no place I'd rather be hiking on a beautiful sunny day than along the Coast Trail in East Sooke Park. Stretching a distance of 10 km, the Coast Trail is one of the few hikes in the Greater Victoria region that runs entirely along the ocean. Views of the snow-capped Olympic Mountains are a constant, along with the soothing sound of waves crashing against the rugged shoreline. It's a plac...
Fishing with Pamela Ep. 7: How to fish for steelhead on Vancouver Island
Переглядів 7704 місяці тому
Steelhead are definitely an interesting fish. It belongs to the same species as rainbow trout, but acts like a salmon, spending part of their lives in the ocean. I knew the chances of catching or seeing a steelhead were low since many people consider it to be the unicorn of fish. My boyfriend, however, has caught a few steelhead in the same river we were fishing, so that gave me a little bit of...

Fishing with Pamela Ep. 6: Tying the knot
Переглядів 1965 місяців тому
One thing every fly fisherman needs to know is how to tie a good, sturdy knot. It's how you connect your lines and prevent your fly from flinging off into a tree. I'm all thumbs when it comes to tying knots, so in this episode, my wonderful boyfriend Mirko (who's been fishing most of his life), demonstrates two basic knots every fly fisherman should have in their repertoire. There's also a bonu...

Home to the highest mountains on Vancouver Island, Strathcona Provincial Park is a stunning place for backcountry hiking. Here's what it's like hiking to Mount McBride. Read about this incredible adventure at: pamelaroth81.b...

Koksilah Provincial Park is located west of Shawnigan Lake on southern Vancouver Island. The park is mainly undeveloped, but there are a few short hiking trails, including one (Jack Fleetwood Trail) that connects to the historic Kinsol Trestle - one of the tallest timber rail trestle structures in the world with a height of 44 metres. Here's what it's like hiking the five-kilometre trail to the...
