    The first car has weak servo saver when its on your servo is locked strait but you can push it left& rt easy cause its ment to save the servo in the event of hitting curb or rocks walls anything that nomaly would break a servo gears the second car idk didnt look like it has servo saver

    • @BriansRCStuff
      @BriansRCStuff 5 днів тому

      I am currently running a stock gearbox other than the smaller idle gear that i got 3d printed. I have a TON of videos on Raider including the mods I have done over the years (including a custom ball differential that I only run off road). What are you goals/how fast do you want it? Honestly 40-45 mph would be a great top speed. Faster things get dicey as the car is so light and of course the faster you go the worse things can get if you crash. I would not get a 3650 brushless motor for it and I would get an F540 (inside it only has a 28mm rotor and not a 36mm sized so it has a lot less torque but still way more than a brushed 540 motor). I would also get an ESC that lets you turn the punch down and set it to the lowest setting possible (to protect the weak gearbox in the Raider). Even with mine set at the lowest setting with my cheap Surpass Hobby ESC, it accelerates nicely! I am happy to help but you probably want to check out my Raider playlist as there is tons of info on the car up there.

    o/ that's defo not normal to have no resistance while the servo has power to it. it may have some internal stripping on the gears or possibly some stripping on the servo arm. There's not a lot of room in there, but with some modification you could put a mini servo in there turned 90 degrees so the servo arm faces the right toward the side of the car. Or, similar to what i did with the 14201, get a massive servo and fabricate a servo mount/chop up the body a lil. Either way, when the servo has power to it, any servo over say 20kg should not be easily moved, so check the gears inside of it for stripping and wear/tear.

    With the servo powered on, the only movement you are getting when manually moving the wheels left and right is the servo saver unloading, which is doing its job, protecting the servo gears against damage,and the servo itself remains in its set position. There is no gear noise because the movement is from the saver.When powered off, the servo is free to move unpowered and so the saver doesn't come into play. Either replace the servo,which is probably glitching due to its age,or try removing the saver or locking it with a tie wrap to stop it possibly unloading under load. I would say the servo is faulty, but there are plenty of options, Surpass make some nice metal gear servos in smaller sizes (I use one in my Mantis EP) . Considering what you have invested in motors,ESC,RX and tyres the cost of a servo is next to nothing......

    • @BriansRCStuff
      @BriansRCStuff 7 днів тому

      Thank you I just checked and yes, it is the servo saver that is moving when I force the steering with the car on (the screw holding the servo savor on is not moving). It is normal for the servo saver to unload that easily? I have no feel for what is normal but it seems really loose to me.

    • @BriansRCStuff
      @BriansRCStuff 5 днів тому

      Thank you for the information, I really appreciate it! I will try a servo.... might as well at this point. I am not sure it will fix it but at the end of the day it will be an improvement and help me figure out what may be wrong with it (if not the servo).

  • @wadeskelton7585
    @wadeskelton7585 8 днів тому

    Also the servo is supposed to hold its position when on, but there’s nothing trying to hold position when it’s off so it makes sense that the servo saver is slipping only when the car is on Doesn’t look like there even is a servo saver on your ultima

    • @BriansRCStuff
      @BriansRCStuff 8 днів тому

      I think I see what you are saying. I should turn it on and then try to manually move it again but see if the screw holding the servo saver in place is moving or if something is broken with it. Lol, I never noticed that until now but I think you are right about the Ultima. My dad bought it second hand from a hobby store - it was raced and I guess they didn't keep a servo saver in there.

      I just checked and yes, it is the servo saver that is moving when I force the steering with the car on (the screw holding the servo savor on is not moving). It is normal for the servo saver to be moved out of its position when on? I have no feel for what is normal but it seems really loose to me/like it should "grip" harder than that to keep the steering set where it is supposed to be? IDK.

    Is the servo saver worn out? Are you able to tell if the screw going into the spline on the servo is actually turning when you manually move the wheels one way or the other? If the screw is turning then your servo is hosed, if not it’s prolly just the servo saver…

      Hard to tell from the video, but is it just your servo saver that is the cause of the movement? My cheaper servos do the same thing when not powered up. Are you running toe out? My 2 cents: It's the design of the steering. I saw a mod for a similar older car (Tamiya I think) and it has that bar design.. but the bars are too thin, so the flex of the bars causes the car to wander like that. You are absolutely correct about the horrible steering design. It is probably the worst thing about the car. That being said, once I had it dialed in last year, it handled surprisingly well up to about 50 mph. Much past that, it is so light it is scary.... but I was shocked how well it did at lower speeds (for what it is). Hi Aaron! Most ESC's come with 4mm bullets so you will probably need to change them. if you are going to change them, you may want to go a little bigger than 4mm (unless they are incorporated into the ESC itself. I use 6.5 which is kind of too big for a 60A unit but I use the bigger stuff as my 100+ mph Bandit draws a lot of amps and it is nice having less resistance with the bigger bullets (though at lower amp loads it doesn't make much difference. Love this car!! A few things you might want to try... Increase the toe-out on the front wheels (pay attention to the steering assmebly and the front suspension tho because toe adjustment adds a decent amount of stress to everything from the inner wheel/tire to the steering link). Space the rear wheels (watch out for burst wheelies by softening your throttle input and 'easing' into full throttle). Soften the rear springs and stiffen the front springs to limit traction bias. As soon as one wheel gains a lil more traction than the other it's gonna pull hard in that direction. The wheelbase is short and the chassis is narrow, and dBoots are v. heavy so keep that mind for sure. Hope this helps and hope you find a solution!!
