Episode 60 - Riding in a Washing Machine at Shroud Cay!
On today’s voyage, we make the trek down the inside of the Bahama bank from Highbourne Cay to Shroud Cay, a part of the Bahamas Land and Sea Park.
Our voyage was 33.6 nautical miles and took us just short of four hours to make the trek.
Our voyage to the Washing Machine was made without advance knowledge as to what to do there, so we missed out on bodysurfing the currents on our own, rather than on the dingy, which was unfortunate, but leaves something for us to look forward to on a return visit. Apparently, the tidal current creates a swift circular current that sweeps around the peninsula creating an exciting ride reminiscent of a spin cycle on the washing machine. The currents were not terribly strong when we were there, so next time we will time it better!
Following our ‘washing machine’ adventure, we set off for a quick but scenic hike up the nearby hill to reach Camp Driftwood. The well-trodden path is easy to spot just off the serene Driftwood Beach. While only remnants of the camp remain today, its story is steeped in intrigue. Established in the 1960s by a sailor who lived aboard his boat moored inside Shroud Cay, the camp later became infamous in the 1980s. During that time, the DEA covertly used this very spot to monitor the infamous Pablo Escobar’s operations on Norman’s Cay, just to the north. The hike isn’t just a walk through nature-it’s a step back into a shadowy chapter of history!

Camera adds 10 pounds. You're good. So , are the zincs solid zinc or just a layer over some other metal? The big one one from the stern looked like you could have sanded/grinded the crude off and it would have lasted until you got home.

Some of our other videos cover the details but she’s 42 ft waterline length and her draft is 42”. She has twin Cummins 330 HP diesels. Have a look at some of our “tour videos” if you have an interest. This is not really a video that lives on its own with all the answers. We have 70 or 80 videos with a variety of content. I think people who follow our channel would get tired of hearing the specs on each video so we make separate videos with that info. Thank you for your feedback, and hopefully I have answered your questions! Have a great day!

This "Flight of 5" in Waterford is not the one that climbs the Niagra Escarpment.... this climbs up about 160 feet from the Hudson up to the Mohawk river portion of the Erie Canal. The other famous "Flight of 5" is 350 miles to your west in Lockport, New York -- and that famous flight of 5 is no longer in use - still there to your right -- but replaced by two modern locks that do indeed take you up the Niagra Escarpment ..... #themoreyouknow

School was on the old Coca-cola plantation next to Evinrude's wife's marina, Outrigger, not sure what it's named now since their deaths. There were still what looked like concrete slab pieces that were suppose to be left over from the seal/frogman demolition training conducted in the area

Not sure how many people actually read other people's comments, but... Went to school for 2 years in Jensen Beach right next door to Stuart 80-82. Wonderful place, so we did a few vacations there a few years later. There's a great interactive marine display(?) on Hutchinson Is. Could feed rays and see /touch other marine life. I've seen recent videos that show it has grow larger and I assume it's still on the island. Worth checking out

So nice of you to say so! We enjoy making the videos and they are fun to look back on, but it’s great to hear others are enjoying them too!

Florida rivals Texas for beef production per capita (think they were ahead of Texas when I lived there in the 80's)

Just finished Stay Cool's loop videos a couple of months ago. Also watched Scho and Jo on Pivot, OnFIREFamily on Witness and SeaShine boat buying videos since they haven't really put any loop videos out. Always fun to see who may have travelled together at some time.

All awesome channels! We connected with all of them during our loop. Such a fun time meeting so many people with similar interests. I think you will find that all of those Vloggers have multiple videos out on their loop adventures. Happy binge watching. You may also wish to consider What Yacht to Do!
