The Paradox of Freedom in GTA Online
Переглядів 227 тис.2 місяці тому
The freedom you have in the sandbox of GTA Online was one of the biggest draws to it for many people and is a big part of why people are still playing it 11 years later. However, since launch, the game has asked for more and more from the player. Whether it’s grinding for hours or buying shark cards, the freedom we thought we had now comes with strings attached, but it might not be beyond savin...
Call of Duty doesn't need you

Call of Duty was one of the most beloved and controversial video game series of all time. It saw peaks that some franchises would only dream of and became a cultural phenomenon. So why does it feel like new Call of Duty’s are unable to recapture that magic? The answer isn’t just Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) but is something that’s been brewing for a very long time. I lost my grandma and my cousin to cancer. My grandma had lung cause she chain smoked cigs for about 60 years, and my cousin had stomach, which didn’t kill him directly, but he got it twice and he could no longer enjoy his favorite foods, which was spicy foods, but the radiation therapy eventually caught up to him and put too much strain on his heart. The hardest part of watching that is seeing the cracks in the armor, when the days get so bad that the smiles and laughter doesn’t mask the pain, and even as a kid I could tell they were suffering. Sorry for the trauma dump

Now the key issue that is prevelant in GTAO is: It doesn't really matter how much money you have at hand; what does matter is how much you "make" in a specific period of time. That's what actually keeps you going. Funds can decrease, income is the opposite dynamic of it. Grinders have habits, which in turn are based on how quickly their businesses produce product or how quickly the respective mission cooldown goes away. So if you want a specific thing that costs you millions, you can actually gauge how long it will take to get the money to buy it. That's why income is more important than actual funds (funds only in the sense if they can cover the cost of the desires object; which they don't if you are still below the level of 100 and juggling with the biker, acid and gun running bizzes to increase those same funds). And this is how the economy, for the individual grinder, usually works out. It takes a sxxtton of time to grind for the stuff you want to have. GTAO indeed is like a second job.

ive had the same issue. i started when i was 12, making gaming videos purely for fun. got away from it for a few years and came back because i wanted to game and goof off. but the incessant drive to grow b/c you want to avoid stagnation leads to working for the algorithm rather than making shit for fun. while i still tried to make stuff i liked and then worry about the god forsaken 'marketing' aspect afterwards, it still takes a toll. but you're right, i don't want to start hating something i genuinely love to do. time to get back to the obscure shit lol

Dude this whole channel was built on me doing call of duty cut commentaries in 2024. The only reason I blew up on my video essays is because of that core audience I built that was supporting me no matter what. Do what you love.

I still think GTA V Online is the greatest online game. I know this is majorly controversial, but I don’t care, lol. I will stick with this statement till the day I die; even with future GTA’s or other online games with extremely enhanced graphics. V was ahead of its time in a thousand different ways. Not to mention all the memories with my bro and my other friends from 2014-2020. I don’t think I have as much memories as I do with this game. I’m beyond joyful for the release of GTA 6 next year, but it’s gonna be hard to say goodbye to 5.

When I was in the thick of it, I didn’t like when people would treat me like “the kid with cancer” despite me being a kid with cancer. I just wanted to feel “normal”. 3-10 hour chemo days make you feel like a guinea pig so when he’s not getting treatment, just try to help him feel a little bit normal. My mom wanted me in support groups and things like that, but really I just wanted to be able to see my friends and do things I did before.

I’m not entirely sure why UA-cam recommended me this video but it is amazing to see how far you’ve come my man. Beating a horrible disease like cancer and then doing something you’ve always dreamed of doing is awesome. It’s good that you are taking the positive out of the negative. Keep on being you and enjoy what you have. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone. Great vid.

As a guy who doesn't play MP, I honestly really liked MW2019. Cold War even more. Campaigns have been having almost some kind of a renaissance lately in this franchise, something I've been waiting for since Ghosts took a huge step back from BO2. MP is the big thing for CoD, but the fact that's being abused by Activision just means their flaming eye isn't looking at the SP experience, allowing the developers to sneak in quality gameplay.
