The driver of the dark blue BMW speeds down a bus lane in order to pass the line of cars waiting at a red light, nearly striking the BLR camera car from behind as it initiates a right turn. The BMW then tailgates our car before it swerves into the parking lane to speed through a stop sign in a school zone.

Protest March Against the Terrebonne Bike Lane in NDG (2024-02-03)

The organizers described the intention of this march as being to "show the borough what public consultation really means". Organizers also wished to show how many people will, in their view, be adversely affected by the one-ways and loss of parking as a result of what they describe as an "imposed bike path". The "March along Terrebonne" was held on Saturday, February 3 at 1pm. It started at Gir...

    Anything to be stuck at the next red light 4 seconds quicker!! It's an issue here in Germany too, where people know how to drive... Dedicated bike lanes are the way, with actual space in between the road an them that is.

    It isn't signed?! It is my understanding that here in Ontario no marking on pavement has regulatory status without a sign. Exactly because snow and other stuff can make paint on pavement unreadable.

    • @BLR-MTL
      @BLR-MTL 5 місяців тому

      There are signs, but a lot of people are not really looking out for them. Some lanes are seasonal, and the date range (April-November) is marked. This lane has signage with not date range. I can understand this agent cutting some slack right after a big storm, but at some point they so have to enforce it. I've since posted other videos of this stretch, and there are still quite a few cars parked on the lanes with little enforcement.

    I bet at least half of these drivers parking there know exactly that it's a bike lane, but they see "Oh, snow, fine, nobody can read the markings today" and do park mutually on the lane.

    • @BLR-MTL
      @BLR-MTL 7 місяців тому

      You could be right and I see your point. It might make more sense if you watch this other video, which shows the viewpoint all along that street: ua-cam.com/video/L1qb03H6crk/v-deo.htmlsi=aIDNVysK2a89EbKX It was taken during the same ride as this video, but I edited the Parking Agent section out to use in a separate clip. The sections prior to meeting the parking agent are well cleared, and the "three cars" the agent refers to were parked prior to the snow clearing (a fourth car was idling with the driver inside). The bike lane markings are clearly visible, and the vast majority of cars are parked properly. This is also a residential zone, and residents are aware of the bike lane. It actually would have been very difficult for the drivers parked on the bike lane to do so after the other cars had properly parked to the left of the bike lane. The short section of Lacombe after my conversation with the agent was cleared much more recently prior to the video and I would agree with the agent that it would have been difficult if not impossible for motorists to see the bike lane. This is also closer to a commercial sector, and motorists visiting local businesses may not have been aware of the bike lane. At the time, I was also frequenting the area around a nearby hospital by car, and found this zone was not obviously a bike lane. The temperature was increasing at the time, and salting operations had only just exposed the lane markings to the East of St Mary's Hospital. Also in fairness to the City, their online bike map warns that it will take several days after a larger snowfall to clear all bike lanes in the network. Obviously, as cyclists we'd like to see this improved and there are pilot projects with new equipment and techniques that are clearing selected lanes very promptly (ironically some citizens complain about the bike lanes being cleared before sidewalks).

      Lol I agree an angry altercation would be more UA-cam friendly and sorry if I "click-baited" you. We have an ongoing discussion in our city about snow clearing and this is probably only of interest to residents. I think the UA-cam algorithm "rewards" channels for posting any kind of new content, and we've been uploading a lot of B-Roll that could be relevant to specific discussions. This may account for the "recommended" status. I would like to think that this video shows a positive example of a conversation that could have ended in an angry argument, but instead ended with all three people smiling. When nature hits us with a snow storm or other challenges, I think this is a better way to go.

      Hi and thanks for the comment! I use the "Telemetry Overlay" program, link here: goprotelemetryextractor.com It inputs all the metadata captured by the GoPro camera, and gives you a lot of customizable options for overlay of gauges. I don't use it much for these videos, but you can also display things like the elevation and slope.

    De nouvelles pistes cyclables sont prévues le long de la rue Terrebonne, dans l'arrondissement CDN-NDG de Montréal, en 2024. Ce projet supprimera le stationnement d'un côté de Terrebonne entre Belmont à l'ouest et Girouard à l'est. La perte résultante de places de stationnement dans la rue a été une préoccupation compréhensible pour les résidents locaux. Cette vidéo montre un sondage du stationnement dans la rue, dans la zone le long et autour de Terrebonne, un dimanche matin où la majorité des résidents sont censés être chez eux. Les images ont été capturées à l'aide d'une caméra montée sur un vélo entre environ 8h20 et 9h20 le matin du dimanche 19 novembre 2023. Un total de 21 km de routes locales ont été couvertes en un peu moins d'une heure. Pour fournir un contexte de lieu et de temps, des superpositions de télémétrie ont été ajoutées à la vidéo. Notez que lors du trajet retour vers l'est le long de Terrebonne (à environ 13m38s dans la vidéo), chaque voiture stationnée est numérotée séquentiellement à des fins de comptage. Les numéros défilent rapidement, mais vous pouvez utiliser les paramètres UA-cam pour ralentir la lecture pour vérification (0.5X devrait suffire). Certains résidents ont peut-être déjà pris leur voiture pour aller au travail, pour des activités de loisirs ou pour des voyages hors de la ville le week-end. La messe de 9h du dimanche était en cours à l'église St Monica sur Terrebonne près de Benny, et le décompte des véhicules stationnés sur Terrebonne inclut les voitures garées devant l'église (on peut s'attendre à ce que la messe de 11h attire généralement plus de fidèles). Actuellement, il y a 475 places de stationnement sur toute la longueur de Terrebonne (source : Étude de faisabilité et d'impact EXP 2023, lien ci-dessous). La vidéo tournée lors de ce sondage a montré que 216 voitures étaient stationnées sur cette étendue (taux d'occupation de 45 %). Toutes les rues transversales croisant Terrebonne avaient plusieurs places de stationnement gratuites, y compris des emplacements à moins de 50m de leur intersection avec Terrebonne. Certains opposants au projet de piste cyclable ont suggéré que la suppression des places de stationnement d'un côté de Terrebonne rendrait impossible pour les résidents de se garer dans la zone. En général, ce sondage ne soutient pas ces affirmations bien que la densité de stationnement soit effectivement élevée dans les rues transversales les plus proches de Girouard. La vitesse de lecture de la vidéo est de 4X pour plus de brièveté, avec des vitesses de "avance rapide" plus élevées aux feux rouges. Une musique de fond ("Fusion" par Speedy J) est fournie en raison de la longueur du clip. Dans les images capturées le long des trottoirs ou des chemins temporaires liés aux travaux routiers en cours sur Somerled, le vidéaste/cycliste marche en étant descendu de son vélo ou roule lentement de manière sûre et raisonnable conformément aux dispositions "en cas de nécessité" du CSR 492.1. L'étude de faisabilité et d'impact EXP commandée par la Ville de Montréal peut être trouvée ici : [portail-m4s.s3.montreal.ca/pdf/rapport_-_etude_de_mobilite_rue_de_terrebonne_2023.pdf] Timestamps (Horodatage) : 00:00 Rues transversales de Girouard à Grand 06:48 Rues transversales de Grand à Cavendish 09:23 Rues transversales de Cavendish à Belmont 13:38 Retour vers l'est le long de toute la longueur de Terrebonne #### AVIS DE SÉCURITÉ : Les images vidéo sont enregistrées par un cycliste adulte expérimenté portant un casque et respectant les lois de la circulation applicables. Certaines situations impliquent un risque plus é levé en raison de compromis et/ou de déficiences dans la conception des routes et le comportement des automobilistes. Respectez toujours toutes les lois de sécurité routière et portez un casque lorsque vous faites du vélo. Si une situation est en dehors de votre zone de confort, envisagez de descendre brièvement de votre vélo et de marcher sur le trottoir jusqu'à ce que les conditions s'améliorent. Parlez à vos élus locaux de vos préoccupations en matière de sécurité et de ce qu'ils peuvent faire pour améliorer les conditions pour les cyclistes. NOTE SUR LES COMMENTAIRES : Cette chaîne est dédiée aux aspects de la sécurité et de l'acceptabilité sociale du transport actif à vélo. Les commentaires qui contribuent de manière constructive à ces sujets sont les bienvenus. Les commentaires non pertinents ou négatifs de manière gratuite seront supprimés. NOTE SUR LA CONFIDENTIALITÉ : Toutes les vidéos, audios et photos ont été capturées dans des espaces publics sans attente raisonnable de confidentialité. Cette chaîne n'a pas adhéré au programme de monétisation de UA-cam. Tout le contenu est présenté pour la discussion à but non lucratif de la sécurité routière, un sujet d'intérêt public, en pleine conformité avec les directives EDSA de UA-cam. Dans le contenu dépeignant une conduite illégale ou potentiellement dangereuse, un effort sera fait pour flouter les visages et/ou les plaques d'immatriculation des personnes impliquées. Dans le contenu où le visage d'un enfant mineur est clairement identifiable (c'est-à-dire visibilité prolongée du visage à une distance proche, sans vêtements masquants tels que des chapeaux ou des capuches), un effort sera fait pour flouter le visage sauf si un consentement explicite de l'enfant et d'un parent est documenté (typiquement dans des images vidéo qui peuvent être mises à disposition sur demande).

    Damn man! I couldn't breathe watching this video. You're fearless. I just saw that sped it up 2x. Whew! I thought that's how fast you were riding. I have a road bike with 28 tires. I wouldn't ride even with that little bit of snow. I don't even ride in the rain. I work from home all week, so I'm not commuting. But, any given week I ride between 100-150 miles. I'm in Philadelphia and I can do a 25-35 mile ride within city limits. I have a Trek hybrid with much larger tires and have ridden in snow. It's not as scary as I would have thought. But, I'll stick to dry land. :)

    • @BLR-MTL
      @BLR-MTL 8 місяців тому

      Thank for watching! Yes the 2X speed is key. I don't think the video would be visually engaging otherwise, as watching me plod along at 1X would probably be excruciating. The camera angle also heightens the effect. I did competitive cycling in my now-distant youth, and have been bike commuting for decades, so my comfort zone is fairly broad. The genesis of this channel is a local project to install protected bike lanes along the road shown. There are many schools, recreational facilities, and families with young kids in the neighbourhood. As a compromise to appease local residents who have understandable concerns about loss of parking, the city has designated this road as a "bicycle boulevard" with painted signage on the road. This confers certain legal privileges to cyclists that most drivers don't know about and probably wouldn't respect if they did (nothing against drivers but it's human nature). The point of these videos is to demonstrate that it's ridiculous to call this a designated cycling route, especially one that children and new riders are expected to use. As an aside, I have family in your neck of the woods and Philadelphia is a great city! Must be some gorgeous riding around there. Stay safe and happy riding!
