Let's go channel surfing
United States
Приєднався 16 тра 2020
Welcome to Lets go channel surfing.
In 2010 we disconnected cable TV as we'd rather be out channel surfing the San Juan Channel, the Swinomish channel, and many others on our boat. Our goals for our videos is to let you experience what boating on our Ranger Tug has to offer and provide ideas for you on your own Ranger Tug.
Our boat is named Channel Surfing, we are Martin and LaZina. We cruise all over the Salish Sea which covers the Pacific Northwest, Canada. We are also planning a trip into Southeast Alaska.
Join us on our adventures as we explore, upgrade our boat, and provide education on boating in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest and Canada.
Please consider subscribing and join us as we cruise around in our Ranger Tug RT27 outboard.

How many gallons per hour on slow cruising, say 6.5 to 7 knots? Thanks !
Awesome content, thanks!
Great content, thanks!
Wow, it's pretty there.
Hello, where did you get the two parts, and do you have the part numbers. I would like to move the thermostat to chest level so the t stat would be accurate, but this may be easier
Thats very detailed and helpful, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Have you ever researched an instant hot water heater? Are any of them feasible for a Ranger Tug?
I haven't found anything feasible. Instant hot water heaters pull a lot of amps, more than the boat could provide. Propane water heater is out as propane is heavier than air and would settle in the bilge, next to the gas tank, with a pilot light on the hot water heater. The best solution I've found that works well is LFP and run the hot water heater for 45 minutes. (It'll want to run for 120 minutes to fully heat up. but that's excess and is unnecessary). A portable LFP bank of about 1200-1600 watt hours, plugged into the shorepower connection so the boat thinks it's on shorepower works well. ua-cam.com/video/gSgGiuvB9-A/v-deo.html
Beautiful boat, but would prefer a smaller Ranger (27) with the 300 hrs outboard
Me too. :)
Martin, did I hear you say you needed a bigger boat? 😊 @ 16:43
Yup. Need more friends too. Lol Thanks for watching!!
Howdy shipmate, seems like you are getting “wondering eyes” each time you review a newer boat with a little more upgrades from your 27. Can’t wait to see what you end up buying. Of course will love to watch your series of videos on the process of selling your boat. You only get one go around in life, so don’t wait too long like I have. 😊. Looks like the next best thing I can do is a center console 25 foot fishing boat down around Pensacola FL - birthplace of Naval Aviation
I love the powertrain on the C288 with twin F250's and the integrated cockpit/transom and a10 foot beam. Very nicely done. Unfortunately for me, I prefer the floor plan of the R27-OB over the C288. The C288 floor plan is the inverse floor plan of the R27-OB. If the C288 had a stateroom it'd be more compelling, but it's still just a v-berth. So far, I haven't found another boat that I like better than the R27-OB. Apparently, I'm pretty picky. Lol :)
Super helpful. Thanks so much for the clear step-by-step!!
Glad it was helpful!
Anybody tell me if the Bluetooth is in operating mode from your phone can turn the heater on when I'm in my house say 150 ft away? Thank you
Bluetooth uses 2.4ghz with weak power giving it an effective range about the size of a normal living room. (about 30' square). 150' away and it's not going to work. I can turn it on and off from about 20-30 feet away from the boat on the dock.
This is a perfect example of the difference between women and men. Your wife is focused on filming the guy, but a guy would be more focused on filming the boat. Women are more interested in people, men more interested in things.
Exactly. Lol. This was one of our earliest videos. I like to think that we've improved since then. Thanks for the feedback!
Great videos! What do you think about trying a Sharrow propeller?
Too expensive for what they deliver. I've looked at the Sharrow. It's $5k for the prop. I've got a 5 blade prototype I'm running currently and have been very happy with it. Improved MPG that's close to what the Sharrow can do.
May I ask how much?
The R27-Ob today sells new for about $230k. Their pricing is published at ranger tug dot com.
Great info on the charging
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found the information useful.
WEIRD PEOPLE AND THEIR BOATS, CLIMATE CHANGE PUTTING AN END TO ALL THAT WWIERDNESS///
Beautiful run. Have stopped in Hartley many times, such a beautiful area. I often run from Kitimat, fishing Campania, Aristazabal, Milbanke, Shearwater, Hakai and Rivers. Can’t wait for Hogust! 🎣
Thanks for the info!
Wow. What a painfully boring story about such a beautiful place.
Thanks for watching!
Horseflies bites are miserable. Gas availability and moorage space are two of my biggest concerns. You lucked out twice this leg.
I had enough gas to get from Hartley Bay to Shearwater. But at 7knots and 2 days of travel. It would have been slow going... Bought us a days travel!
at first I was wondering if that gas was ok.... then i realized that pretty much every gas station in the country has buried tanks that don't look too nice if you dig them up. also- I see you fly Canadian flag as a courtesy- do you also fly American flag? I saw an American flag on another boat- is that a faux paux?
I always have the US Flag flying from the stern, which is the senior most position to fly a flag on the R27-OB. The mast is where I fly the Canadian flag as a courtesy.
Very cool guys
Thanks for watching!
Loved the video. Glad you had nice cruising weather. You didn’t mention Patreon, also still an option I believe. Be well.
@@philterzian9162 thanks for that Phil! That section of the video was filmed in Prince Rupert. I didn’t launch Patreon until after our Alaska trip.
so cool !!!!
Thanks for watching!
Great video guys.
Glad you enjoyed it
i learned so much from all the videos of this trip.... thx for sharing
We can’t wait to go again. We still need to see Sitka and fords terror and a few more places we didn’t have time to get to. This really was an incredible journey.
Love the channel! The swag is great quality and value!
Thank you so much for the support.
Cool video guys, keep up the good work. Greatings from Down N Dirty.
Thank you for the support guys. Melissa had so much fun making this video.
Bow thrusters rule
Definitely!
I wish the r27 had the front bed like the r29 does. I want the r27 because I can trailer it, but I want the front birth of the 29. I'm 6ft 6in tall. Only I can fit on that front birth I feel and 1 buddy can sleep in the rear birth and only a short friend can sleep on the upper table birth. 3 guys tops for a week trip to the Bahamas. Realistically,. You won't fit 2 people in that under birth or that table birth. If it's a man, woman, and 1 kid, then it's also realistic because let's face it, you won't be converting the table birth every single day.
A stateroom would be nice on the R27. Though, that's the advantage of the 10' beam. But the C288 is a 10' beam and has a v-berth.
@Letsgochannelsurfing yeah, i saw that. I was also looking up the solara 250 coupe. I really like that because of the 300 hp motor. I think its more like the r25 . It does have that v birth also though
Random question.......does it have to be a Yamaha or can you put on a Tohatsu ihnstead? The Tohatsu 9.9 is the same as the 15 and 20, just a different ECU and exhaust restrictor. Thoughts?
You could put whatever kicker you want on the back.
Always super detailed and very informative, really appreciate the time you put in!
Thanks for watching!
Outstanding channel. Keep up the great work. As a newbie and aspiring to do such a trip, except from Vancouver, BC - a few questions. Is there an app you use that allows you to calculate distances between each point on a marine map - I guess something like google maps for marine? Where you can drag and drop from one position to another to find out what the distance is - to calculate fuel consumption and how far you can go etc? Also, is there an app that lists all marine fuel/pump stations? How do you guys know where there is a fuel station and plan your stops? Thanks in advance. I'm learning lots from you guys........
I use Navionics on my phone, tablet and laptop. It's the equivalent of google maps, but for marine. You may like this video, where I go over the top best app's I use for boating. ua-cam.com/video/lU2VNyq3UTg/v-deo.html
Wondered if using the 20 hp Yamaha w the 16 Amp alternator would be a viable kicker or is the extra 30 lbs a problem?
The boat is going to consume about 10-12 amps when underway with normal loads such as refrigerator, VHF, Chartplotter, etc... The stern can handle the extra weight, but I doubt it'd provide much extra. Hull speed on the boat is 7 knots. The T9.9 can get to 5.5 knots.
You should have e got 13pitch
They don't make a 4 or 5 blade prop in a 13 pitch. Another owner of an R27-OB tried a 14 pitch OFS 4blade and it performed worse than the 15 pitch. I'm currently playing with a 5 blade prop that's been the best so far that I've tested.
Jeanneau 795 s2 in my opinion is much nicer and bigger for the same price
Thanks for the feedback.
I love your channel, lots of great stuff, and I appreciate the time you spend......if you care about presentation from some random guy you'll likely never meet, try and read less of a script, you're way more engaging just going off an agenda, that's fine to look down at the topic, but then make eye contact and just talk, you're smart and have a lot to say, but no one likes to watch someone reading.
Thank you for this feedback! I experimented with teleprompter software and we have an actual teleprompter glass box with a tablet we tried. I'd re-watch myself on video and saw the same thing you saw. I work best with bullet points and just talking than reading off a teleprompter. All our newer stuff is talking points, no teleprompter.
@@Letsgochannelsurfing Yes indeed, I started watching more of your stuff, you're a natural when just free forming the conversation, I always learn something from you, really appreciate you taking the time!
Hey thank you for the fantastic review. one thing I do want to point out is that your assumption is not quite correct, when you are charging from the engine and from solar. Because it goes to the same bank of batteries, the solar charge controller will detect current from the alternator and will not charge, because it is based on voltage, so if the alternator is pushing 13.8 v to the battery the solar charge controller detects this voltage and considers the battery is full. And the same way in reverse on my smart Balmer alternator controller if I am starting the engine during the day, it senses solar charge controller voltage and should not kick in. I have 500 Watt of solar through an 80amp MPPT controller into an4x220 aphr lead single battery bank. If you know something different, I would be glad to hear.
Thanks for the info!
I was impressed that you could get back to Dagmars without having to call for that train bridge to open. We have to call for it on every trip at least one direction.
I have to radio the bridge more during the offseason than during boating season. But usually they are able to open right away so I don't spend time waiting.
I just went under that bridge about 2 weeks ago. It was overcast but I didn’t care. Soooo nice! Thanks for your video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The music is a distraction.....
Thanks for the feedback.
Strong Stephen King feel there at the start....
Had the exact same problem, went to the boat placed grease on end of piston worked perfectly. Thanks for posting!!!
No problem 👍
Very informative- thanks !
Glad it was helpful!
Last straw! Besides being accused of stealing tools, No water to launch with the tide going out, no pickup just before closing time, disfunctional organization with my two 34 foot boats, Management didn't like my President Donald John Trump shirt... Is it worth it?!! NO! I'd rather pay more! The effect of Management shake up with Collin and John Dying plus Kermit Retiring lending to mismanagement types who are social retards stepping into lead positions. People who disagree with me, just wait for it. Did I say they're selling the place?!! Heads up, better find a new place.
Thank you for the feedback.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
thanks for posting your boating videos
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching.
All EC’s had 30 hp Yanmars or Volvos... EC stands for extended cabin , little longer and wider than the original r21 , plus a flattened aft hull section to help gain about two knots instead of the rounded aft bottom of the original
Thanks for the additional info!
Does that ceramic work cost as much as a Sharrow.?😂
For Channel Surfing, ceramic coating was less expensive than a Sharrow.
Wow! Kevin does it again! Fantastic
Always!
