Dust bunnies, dust bunnies, dust bunnies! Despite the level of dust, I think this system is gonna clean up really nicely and offer some cool insight into the era of 486 and some of the unique Packard Bell setup we have in this LEGEND.

Ultra X4 750W PSU Diagnosis and Repair? (Part One) True Hobbyist Amateur Time!
I noticed in some of your PB Legend videos that your battery is intact. That's genuinely pretty awesome, but you should still remove it anyway. There's an external battery header on these boards, so keeping RTC intact shouldn't be an issue, but at this point most of these machines have succumbed to RTC battery damage. My own PB430 (later 3x3 model - yours looks like a PB400 4x4?) had its battery leak pretty badly, which basically ruined the logic board (short of basically reconstructing a pretty large chunk of the RTC and memory controller circuits), and there's maybe one or two people who've successfully managed to repair any of these. I get wanting to keep it original, but that battery is not long for this world even if you got lucky. (ETA: sourcing a logic board that isn't similarly battery-bombed, no matter which generation of 486 Packard Bell, is nearly impossible unless you switch to a Pentium board. I've tried, believe me. Your machine uses a 4x4 riser, so at least getting a PISA riser for a Pentium swap isn't nearly as painful as my 3x3 was, but you have a chance to keep it with the original board.)
Great minds think alike. I've got a few other logic boards with dead, leaky batteries and I'm going to be attempting repairs, but I absolutely will be replacing this one. I'm going to get a similar replacement, I've seen some options online that seem pretty reasonable. There are also some interesting Lithium Ion packs you can get these days. Great tip though and 100% almost impossible to save these after a battery fails.
I LOVE this game and the graphics were fantastic for the time....even now I think it looks great!
Still holds up!
Great video, but what's up with the green fingernails?
Haha this has been such a popular comment topic. My wife and I had our anniversary a while back and got manicures as something fun to do together we hadn't done before. Tbh they're coming off but I'm too lazy to buy acetone to clean em off. Also it helps me remember where my fingers are
@urzamaster well if it made the wife happy it was well worth it.
Nice, fellow small tech youtuber here. Liked this video, reminded me of back int he day when i first started messing with computer, so pretty nosta;gic for me lol.
Thanks for watching! Always good to meet a fellow tech out here!
Subscribed when I saw Packard bell legend. THEN What's the deal with the fingernail. Unsubscribe. I looked back at your other videos you didn't have the drag look. So you are you drag now?
I am not a drag performer. My wife and I got our nails done for our wedding anniversary for fun, no other reason. Your choice to subscribe or not, my choice to do whatever with my nails, but plenty of computer content, so do what you need to do, I guess
@@urzamaster ok it seriously Disturbed me. I can see it Disturbed others as well. I guess you just got to know you're who your audience is. Thank you for letting me know you're not a drag performer. Skip this video but I will resubscribe. Hope you revisit Packard bells have so many nostalgic memorie.
WHY THE GAY NAILS ??
ya i actually only saw that it was the same as my first comp... the nails scare me tho...
Lol why not? Helps me remember where my fingers are
Why make life harder, set that gun the Celcius. Ikik, im an American too it feels wrong, but then it's a simple meter of 0-100 with 0 being good and 100 being FUCKED. it makes comparison more straight forward, and you won't need to do any conversions when talking to the rest of the world since Celsius is a the standard for PCs.
Hahaha idk man I just love Fahrenheit lol
My nostalgia PC. I learned touch typing on one in high school. 💻
That's awesome! I learned on an Apple II and I've been looking for one ever since lol
Ah, the good ol' days of PC's!! <3
Keep the good content coming. I have missed your videos.
Thank you! I've been super busy over at Pending Rebrand here on UA-cam but I still have plenty of gas for this channel too!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
The frustration is real
I have a similar Compaq Presario (SR1110NX). It even has the 3.5" floppy drive. However, mine has a 325 Intel Celeron D Processor (not sure of the GHz), 256 MB ram and a 40 GB hard drive. When I was trying to do a system restore on it, I discovered *after* the OS was removed that the recovery discs no longer worked (they had been made when the computer was new). Do you think that recovery discs made from *your* computer would work on mine? Or do you have any advice on how to find recovery discs that would work (eBay? trustworthy sites?)
I'm still working on this machine, and I have not yet found a solution. If you find one, let me know!
These things were mandatory for older tvs with antennas after the FCC mandated DTV conversion
Yes! I really need one but can't ever find one that works. The hunt continues+
I’m having the same problem with my model 60, same errors
It's a labor of love. Hopefully we both find the solutions!
I have one of those. Surprisingly decent for government contract funded cannon fodder!
Yes, not awful!
Can this be upgraded and used as gaming pic in 20024
Where there is a will, there is a way!
This is my old pc, I am now planning using the case for a modern pc to use it as my emergency computer. I have just took it out of the coset to check it and seach on youtube if anybody is modding the case. So nice to see this video
There's always a great mod out there just waiting to happen!!
Hey brother. Does yours come with a digital cpu temp display? Mine did, and unfortunately it is not showing the digital temp. Would you happen to know how to fix?
im having same issue, runs fine but no display of lcd except on startup
Mine does not have the display! Luckily it cools so well I've never had any need for it!
How are the temps so far?
There is a connector labeled P6. What would that go to?
I'd have to dig the machine out, but often the molex plugs just had connector labels for no reason.
What is this used for?
For now, collecting dust. I'm hoping to maybe modify it for a retro gaming rig or some kind of emulation. We will see.
I have the 386 version motherboard, I like a lot this machine 😍🥰 ua-cam.com/video/za2-L4vTlPg/v-deo.html
what was it supposed to do? It looks like it will print either of 2 characters. Wouldn't all the upper ascii codes be mapped to various configurations of 6 rectangles?
Great question. This line on the C64 or VIC20 (or most Commodore computers) will generate a random line array. Was just hoping it would work the same here, but alas...
Ah, same as hardware from my overstock pile
Seemed like the motherboard had shorted out causing power to be present at the PCIE slot after shut down. BTW, my first computer was an HP Pavilion m8200n with an AMD Athlon 6000+ Dual Core. Very similar to what you have. Used it for about 3 years then put it away. Afterwards I sold it about a couple of years ago with the HP 19" monitor and color printer that it came with for $100 bucks.
Whats the specs for this build?
I'll have a short coming with all that info soon!
Omg this was my first computer
I love this little thing! Great PC!

Now that I have all the components... longform video will be coming!
wow Edit - i hope ur feeling better
Yeah, I have to say, after all my tinkering I'm really bummed that the Ryzen 5 5600X wasn't working with this board. I guess it's back to the dumpster to find a Ryzen 5 board
I Wish EMachines Were Still Around
They were decent budget rigs! They got a bad rep.
Did you ever get it fixed?
Nope! It ended up being a bust. I harvested it for the fan and the lulz
"Promo sm"
I've got a 98 build that could use a new hard drive for peace of mind, I wasn't too sure if the IDE drive I have spare from 2006 was gonna work. There's files on it I want to check and backup before formatting it, but the computer doesn't like running 2 hard drives at once, it only recognizes 1 drive! 😅
I have run into that before too. I think Second Edition was better about it...but not by much! I'm probably going to need 4 partitions to get 2tb to fly with 98SE!
Awww! Nice shout out, pal! Sweet tower of power!
Love this tower. I can't wait to get this rig up and running some Doom!

Intrigued by one of these for kid's bedrooms rather than huge bulky TVs. Look forward to seeing you mess around with it.
It's definitely a nice option. Runs very quiet!
very nice as a person who stresses on repurposing old or broken electronics, i approve
I'm all about Recycling tech! ♻️
Why not stack the systems on a low profile riser about an inch or two off the carpet and mount the switch on the wall next to the devices? You would need a spacer for the ones you stack on top, but it would be closer to a poor mans server rack, better airflow, less dust and debris from the carpet and less cable mess/routing for the hard-line connections. Also, more space under the desks for chairs, feet, whatever.
That was actually on my list! I love that idea!
Try upgrading to Windows 10
A worthy challenge
Finally The Franken Computer Lives!
Boy when those lights came on was I about to go wild. But then...came life! Deeper dive coming, longer video soon!
Glad To See An Update Maybe Check The Motherboard or The Power Supply?
I've got another Ryzen coming, this one is compatible with out-of-the-box BIOS versions, if that doesn't work I'm not sure what I'll do LOL
Is your mobo speaker hooked up? Everything seated? Does the ram and video work in another system?
Yes to all. The issue here, I'm pretty sure, is that this is a NIB mobo and it's still got factory P1.60 BIOS on it. The Ryzen 5600X support didn't come until much later in the BIOS release. Since it doesn't have a flashback button, I'm ordering a legacy Ryzen chip that worked with factory release. Then we will see if this works!
You could try to make a retro gaming setup or try and play modern games
Several of these are Windows 98 players and should make for a cool little network for retro gaming. A couple could do low-end modern games. Thanks for the suggestions!
Damn
Right? I finally got *part* of the replacement order. I just want to get this thing up and running
@@urzamaster so maybe just try the single stick that is supposed to work with the board and see if it runs
@orenraveh1162 reckless and petty me decided to wait until I have everything, which now I do. Coming very soon!
Yo is that “the devil in i” I hear at the start of the clip? For reference: ua-cam.com/video/XEEasR7hVhA/v-deo.html
Holy shit I have that exact same one
It's a pretty rad little rig!
