I've been hiking for a very long time, in many areas of Europe and Americas. However, I started filming these hikes only recently, in 2020, and made some of these films available on UA-cam. For now, they include mostly hikes in Northern California, specifically Sierra Nevada, Trinity Alps, or Bay Area.
The small films on this channel mainly provide documentation on the landscape, conditions and general direction of the hikes during which they were taken. They are intended as relaxing vignettes designed to inform the interested hiker, but also entertain any casual viewer.
If interested in any details about the hike or general conditions, please do not hesitate to comment.
Enjoy !

Tower Peak from Leavitt Meadow
Took this tour four years ago, and decided to go again last weekend (August 2nd 2024) as I remember it a good one to get back in shape. This time took it with some friends, including @YongsungKim who also made a video about it: ua-cam.com/video/LjnHiNr8XGA/v-deo.html
The approach is quite long and the first 10 miles or so are through the forrest with some limited views, but after Paiute Meadows it becomes quite nice, and the views become spectacular.
As last time, returned via Sister lakes for some variation.

Iceberg and Airola Peaks Dayhike - Carson Iceberg Wilderness
Переглядів 1244 місяці тому
Nice views for the top of this one. It started with sustained climb on a secondary ridge of Iceberg. The snow is mostly gone - but still had some for a smooth descend from the saddle west of Airola, and featured some bushwhacking on the lower part of the descent. The Arnot Creek trail has a lot of logs fallen over that need to be jumped / avoided and the crossing of Woods Gulch Creek was a bit ...
Night Cap Ridge & Peak from Kennedy Meadows
Переглядів 1724 місяці тому
A wonderful day-hike on May 11th 2024 on Night Cap Ridge. Started from Kennedy Meadows off Hwy 108. After several false peaks, finally reached Night Cap Peak. Followed with a messy descent down to Kennedy Lake trail and back to the meadow. Good snow and great weather for this quite challenging hike. Nice views started to appear quite soon after the departure, and continued to the last descent. ...

We were lucky enough to experience a unique sunset on Silliman Crest, with sea of clouds on both sides of the ridge and exquisite views. Hiked with @YongsungKim , who will also post a video documenting the hike. Took a two day hike in Sequoia National Park, climbing via Twin Lakes, traversing via Silliman Crest to the North-West valley of Silliman, which we descended to the base. Snow during th...

After three years took this hike again, this time with @YongsungKim, his video: ua-cam.com/video/2NLs_dcAYZ0/v-deo.html This is a very convenient hike during the spring, coming from Bay Area, as Hwy. 88 is the only one opened across Sierra. The views are nice and the hike is moderate in difficulty. The snow way quite good - a big change from last week in Trinity Alps. Only during the first day ...
Trinity Alps: Hilton Peak attempt in the spring

Took this hike during April 9th/10th 2024. The weather was wonderful, and the scenery stunning. The snow was unforgiving: deep and mushy. During the first day it took me four hours to reach Boulder Creek Lakes from Canyon Creek: a 1.5 mile trail. During the second day I attempted to start a bit early, but overnight it was not cold enough and the snow did not get to re-freeze - only made a small...
Lassen Peak in the Winter

Two days in Lassen National Park, climbing Lassen Peak on the usual route. In the first day we took the normal road, now closed and covered by about three meters of snow, with some shortcuts, to the base of the mountain, and climbed it to a platform with excellent views, about 200m under the top. Second day climbed the peak, absorbed the wonderful views, and returned on the same path. Great sno...
Winter Hike on Kaiser Ridge

Two wonderful days in West Sierra - on the Kaiser Ridge. The snow was quite deep and heavy, especially in the afternoon, making snowshoeing very taxing. The views, however, were simply gorgeous - the entire middle section of High Sierra, between Lyell and Goddard line up in front of your eyes, in their winter splendor. Conditions: weather was great, snow was deep and heavy after 10:30am. Did no...

Little Slide Canyon Dayhike

Exploring a beautiful valley in the Sawtooth Range of Sierra Nevada, climbing from Twin Lakes. The tour involved a lot of bushwhacking and route finding until reaching the valley bed: following the instructions provided in the Secor book, took me on a quite tedious traverse that brought me high on the eastern side of the valley, a more direct route may be advisable, nevertheless the trail that ...

Cool video! Is backpacking/camping possible along little slide canyon?
thx - yes there are plenty of possibilities - once passed the second step (scree slope I climb / the tallus I descend) and approaching the base of the Hulk. there are plenty of good places w/ water and flat land
I did that 1957
wow - congrats ! is a supe nice one
Hell yeah love the video! I'm going in a few days, how's the exposure on the climb?
thx - there is no much exposure at all - the slope on the final climb is 45-50º - with just a couple o short places where it is really class three.
Very helpful documentation! I think I will do this in a few weeks just as you have here.
I'm glad it helps you - good lock with your ascent - enjoy :) !
Rad man, you have been getting after it! Do you think this mountain truly marks the end of the high sierra?
thx - and actually yes for the second question - one can see geologic difference right north of it - it goes from white granite to red volcanic rock. Not to say the peaks are less interesting or nice - but they are just different :)
What a fantastic adventure!
Was quite a nice tour - thx !
Amazing! Congrats 🤗
Thank you!! 😊
I watched your other video on tower peak, and it seemed to take you longer this video to complete the trail; why is that? Is two days enough?
Yep it took longer this time - about 25% longer - I was pretty out of shape and also that was 4 years ago - for what that counts. I think two days should be enough. Will see again in four years how it goes :)
@@kalimachios Thank you! Also, do you think it is possible to summit on the first day before nightfall?
@@Dylan-li4nb It is long and strenuous - but if you are in good shape, and yf you are at the tail of the Tower lake by, say 2-3pm - and the day is long (ie summer) w/ good weather, totally possible.
@@kalimachios Thank you, and one last question; where did you pick up your permit?
@@Dylan-li4nb I printed it at home after the reservation on recreation.gov - plenty of spots from Leavitt Meadow

Just did the Alpine Lake hike and back same day a couple weeks ago, that was tough in the heat. This looked amazing...respect.
It is a nice tour - good job ! And yes, Trinities get a bit hot in the summer, that's why I prefer to go during spring / winter.
Such a beautifull vidéo ! Thak's a lot 🤩😍
it is a beautiful dayhike - glad you enjoyed - thx
dang dude. you killed it. nice job!
was a pretty nice, but demanding hike - glad you enjoyed - thx
Epic hike and incredible views!
It is a pretty nice hike to a peak with great views - glad you enjoyed.
would mean the world for me to come to one of their live performances, sadly living in Brazil does not allow me to do that, so thank you for posting this video and making me feel like i'm watching them live!
sadly i infact do not live in america watching live videos of them is my solve for now...
Simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing❤
Thank you! Cheers!
So glad I found this!! Would kill to see them live ❤❤ Mulțumesc!!!!
You just inspired me to do Ritter and Banner this year!!!! That whole valley I know inside and out since my dad used to drag me up there since the mid 60s. Every Place in your video I knew exactly where you were. The music was great and like I say I’m going to do those peaks because of your great video. Wish me luck maybe I’ll talk my sister into doing it with me since she knows those Mountains as well as I do.. Her and I might be old, but we are tough and hard to kill..haha 👊🏼 Stay safe out there, my friend
Glad you enjoyed the video - and good luck with your planned trip ! Have a good one and stay safe !
Thanks!!!!
I did this today! The gate was open which made things a little easier. Whats the logic with ascending Job first? I went the other way and really enjoyed it, I couldn't imagine doing the ascent to Job or Jobs Sister going counter clockwise.
Good Job ;p waiting for the video - with gate opened, and probably less snow - that saves you some time :) When we left we thought we may go via Armstrong pass and climb Freel - which is a pretty messy traverse in ascent with snow, wanted to do that on the descent - in the end we chose to descent directly to Horse Meadow ..
@@kalimachios Thanks, that makes sense.
Can't believe you left out the part where the audience taught the crane wives what the tbh autism creature was smh /lh
Excellent tour, great early season views. Thanks for sharing.
thx - was a nice one indeed - glad you enjoyed
no big foot ?
hehe - missed him this time ..
Incredible. Thanks for sharing your trips-
Glad you enjoyed - thx !
wow, the view is just stunning.... absolutely gorgeous ! man.... you really know all the peaks. i will try to helen lake next week. thanks !
Yep - it was pretty special - glad you liked it - good luck w/ your hike next week - it is still winter up-there !
@@kalimachios i just love winter scenery.... snow makes the landscape so much better. its the best! do you know the rae lakes area?. i am planning to go there end of june. too much snow on glen pass?
@@NatureBoy711 Yes it does - dunno the conditions there - by the end of just some of the snow may have melted - need to get some info closer to the date of the trip - have a good one !
Nice video and beautiful landscape!! I subscribed!!
thx - glad you enjoyed it !
Spectacular! I enjoyed the Christmas snow (and was glad it tapered off for you) and how you name all the peaks. A very nice tour indeed!
Glad you liked it - I also enjoyed the snow, but I am glad it did not last more than a day :)
Wow, indeed the views are majestic 😍Congratulations! 🤗
thx ! cheers
fantastic early season trip. great video.
yep - got some good conditions in a superb place - thx
Thank you again, Catalin, for taking me on this amazing trip and guiding me to survival. You are not only my hiking partner but also my mentor. I truly appreciate your expertise and kindness. And this is a really nice video. I always enjoy your videos more than mine, perhaps because of the different perspective.
haha :) thanks coming with me on these trips for putting up with me - the hikes are always better together, as you said because different people have different ideas and perspective - this one was truly excellent - thx !
What a great loop. Thanks for sharing this!!!
Glad you enjoyed it ! was a quite good trip indeed :) - thx
Nice work man! Fun to see you day hiking. I am wondering, what do you wear on your feet for a day like this? If its a few weeks earlier and you are almost all on snow do you change your footwear choice?
Was quite a nice hike - thx. I am wearing hard, solid boots most of the time - in the summer I usually carry some light boots or sneakers for trail sections.
Man that's amazing! I'm hoping to go up there on Memorial Day. Hoping to make it to relief peak too! Can you recommend coordinates to any good campsites? Hoping to stay near the reservoir and then hike up during the day.
Thx - I think the upper grouse meadow, before the hard climb is a good place to camp: around here (38.2486044527846, -119.71210931001457). When I climbed, I traversed a bit too high and ended up above it, but when I returned passed through it - I do a panorama from it @5:38 - was covered in snow at that time, but I think now is quite melted. Also I would recommend not following my ascent line - it gets pretty steep towards the top - the next valley to the right looks a bit better. Have a nice hike !
Actually may still be plenty of snow in that meadow - though you may find some clear spaces
Nice work! Did you need snowshoes?
Thanks - took them and carried them for nothing - no snowshoes required
Beautiful country up there!
Quite nice views indeed..
Woohoo!!! Awesome to hear the live versions of the Kiltro songs.
simply breathtaking !
It was special - thx
stunning!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Where did you park for this hike?

Your music choice is inspiring. It was not just exceptionally beautiful morning, the entire trip was exceptionally beautiful.
Thanks - and yep was an exceptionally beautiful evening in an exceptionally beautiful place -
Thanks for this nice video which give a good overview of the ascent to the Refuge du Pelvoux ! You're always welcome to come back with the right pair of crampons 😉 Mat, the hut warden
Thank you for your hospitality ! Merci - will be back !
Another rad looking adventure man! It's great you get after it so many months a year.
was quite fun - thx - good weather and good snow - spring season is on :)
I watched this again. The area looks very different without snow.
Yep it does - though this one is quite an interesting hike - even in summer - I really enjoyed it
