you have to remove the boot carpet to remove the antenna can you explain that part? ? and the rear lights ?

Did you need to reprogram anything or it just swap plug n play?

This is good advice. But like Mike said (below) back up the bleeder line with another wrench on the block so you don't bend the tubing. A fitting wrench or a box wrench would be better on the bleeder nut.

Does the driver side rear view mirror just pop out like so many other models or did MB make it a major project like they're infamous for? My 74 SL500 I've had for 6 yrs has a deeply tinted drivers side mirror which with regular window tint makes it practically useless nights. Have replacement lens, but want an idea before attempting to replace it myself. Any help out there?????

its a anti-theft removal pin. when selector is in park it sticks out and stops access to the 5mm allen bolt. stopping the removal of selector housing.

Is water the only reason for the damage?

If you were to swap out ecu, ignition switch, key and floor shifter...dont you have to program the conductor plate to match what you install into the s430

You can loosen the bracket by removing four screws then pop-off two c-clips, push out two pins out then remove just the hydraulic cylinder from the bracket, versus removing the entire mechanical assembly. Cam here to see how to remove the cylinder from the car with lines attached. But wow, lol!

Thanks for the video. My starter battery has not been charging off the alternator for the last month. I replaced the 100A fuse, didn't work. Today, I put my boot in to service mode (to change a taillight bulb), then turned the car off and this started burning... I panicked and pulled the carpet up. Luckily the burning didn't spread outside the module. I have a question... Is there a way to bypass the K57 relay and remove the starter battery so that there is only 1 battery in the car, running everything?

Hi Dave - I hope you are well and not working too hard? I am told the the windscreen washer tanks on later SL's (from 2004 I think) have a bag of silica gel inside. Can you verify this or have you ever come across this whilst disassembling an SL? Maybe you still have an old windscreen washer tank? Mike in Bristol

On the two lower nuts you only need to loosen them. There is an open slot for the nut and bolt to slide into. Leaving the nut on the bolt prevents the nut from falling into never-never land.

Hi have you got round to removing the whole dash? I'm wondering if it's all the same for a SL55 R230

Very interesting vid, fyi you can just push & twist the cable that goes past the steering column to detatch it from the selector. That would negate the requirement to take the dash apart.

Thank you for this video. I just started doing this this evening and got to the stage where one can’t extricate the fan because of those pipes in the way left and right. I messed about for ages thinking “there must be a way to wiggle it out at some sort of angle”…..but no, you’re right. I feel that frustration. Anyway, darkness has descended upon the UK, so it will have to wait until tomorrow! I’ve taken the two bolts off clamping the radiator and a/c condenser together. Does anything else need to come off to move the radiator away to get at removing he a/c condenser? At the moment the rad still feels fixed somewhere at the bottom? Thanks again.

The gas cylinder that holds the console armrest up when opened is ng. It should stay up by itself but it was resting on your arm as you worked inside..... Easy enough to replace but a pricey cylinder/strut...

Good video, although I would suggest having someone help when it comes to manually adjusting the roof. I installed a pano roof on my 55 and it really changed the appearance.

I had a guy from an import tuner shop tell me about how they dislodge stubborn lower links like this when they do coilover swaps. He said they unscrew the bolt halfway and then take the vehicle for a quick drive down a bumpy road and then the shock will free itself. I was a bit dubious at first, but it actually works like a charm. You can hear when the shock releases because then the bolt rattles inside the hole on the control arm confirming that it's loose. Turns swapping out the front shocks on an R230 into a 10 minute affair per side. If you use a 22mm box wrench on the nut, there isn't even a need to disconnect the tie rod.

BTW just 2 comments, 1- the front piece of the storage unit pulls out from top 1st 2- The yellow pipe on the cabinet can come off on the lock i realised But great thanks
