Ollikainen garage and outdoor adventures
The great outdoors or in the garage - The perfect habitat for many to thrive and prospher in their offtime.
This channel is all about taking you with me, doing the things that I like to do and find meaning in doing, in my spare time. Find inspiration, motivation, learn something useful or just be entertained.
Content I typically cover, but not restricted to:
Garage:
mechanical work
rust repairs
welding
sheet metal forming
restorations..
Other car and motorcycle related stuff.
Currently I am deep down in a hole of rust. Working on an old Hyundai Galloper that I eventually plan to have as a base for an overlanding rig.
Outdoor:
Plain and easy outdoor recreational activities, enjoying the magnificent nature around me where I live.
Fishing trips
Hiking
Hunting
Campfires
Cooking over fire
Overnighters under the stars, in a tent, tarp, hammock
Might also try some motorcycle trips

Yamaha XT350 engine block teardown after finding the engine full of metal particles
Just an ordinary dude tearing down a 1988 Yamaha XT350 engine block to see if he can find the reason why it was full of metal particles at the last oil change.
No big tits to see
No good in front of a camera
No editing skills
Guess you have to be interested in XT350's to watch..
Sarcasm and jokes to side, I hope you like it!
A lot of cleaning, inspection and measuring of parts and empty my bank account on new parts and I hope an update episode is coming in not too long.
I am really looking forward to hear this bike run and drive it once again.

Rebuilding my 4x4 suv hyundai galloper with the spare body

Still a lot to fix on the Galloper car body that I mean to use for this project and a long time before it is ready. I also have a body standing for parts and for reference when the time comes to rebuild the car. Why not put the spare body on the finished chassis? Save some space, clean up the entrance of the house and I will have a movable car instead of parts lying everywhere. Now I also get t...
Mounting a car body on a chassis - Classic SUV - Hyundai Galloper

A beautiful marriage between my finished chassis and the spare reference body. I have had enough of looking at the spare car body outside the garage under a weather beaten tarp. It doesn't look any good. But I don't want to get rid of it before I am finished putting back together the green body after some welding. It has many good spares and is a reference for how to get the other back together...
Xt350 winter prep turns into a BIG project

Time for some winter preparations on the XT350.. Cleaning, service and maintenance.. Possibly do some cosmetic upgrades. But the look of the oil that was drained and oil filter was just dreadful.. Absolutely full of metal particles.. This will need some urgent attettion. Hopefully it is something that can be fixed. And who knows. Maybe it will result in some engine rebuild content? Stick around...

Back on the Hyundai Galloper project after doing lots of other stuff.. Work travels, house maintenance, motorcycle season, start of hunting season.. Everyone restricted to only 24 hour per day, you know the drill.. But really good to be back working on this car and see some progress. Is it reasonable? Will I ever make any money? No and no. But do I enjoy my time doing this? Every minute of it! ...
Yamaha XT350 ydis carburetor work

I have now owned my 1988 yamaha XT350 since spring and despite all the bad weather this summer, I have drove it some. All the time felt like it was running a hot and possibly lean. Already replaced intake rubber boots and adjusted valves. It has gradually started to be more difficult to start, so now was the time to tear into the carburetor! A torne diaphragm on secondary carburetor and leaky o...

Wet and cold summer this year.. My jacket smells like a dog after being wet for so long time. But you just gotta go out there and make the best of it. If nothing else, it is good to get inside again, after a wet walk. And maybe we have to get a bit down sometimes, to appreciate the little up's more? Even if difficult to get outside sometimes, I never regret it. And it is fully possible to be ou...

Beiing outdoors in the nature or just outside in our garden, a thing that I really like to do is to make food on open fire. It is kind of a new dimmension to the outdoor hobby.. I have the impression that this is an activity that many would like to do, but think is difficult or involve lots of work. The meaning with this film is to show others how easy and effortless it can be. If someone gets ...
Yamaha XT350 Maintenance - Valve clearance check and adjusting
Some maintenance on my XT350. Time to check valve clearances! And happy I did, the exhaust valves were a bit on the tight side. Too tight clearance on exhaust valves can cause the valves to not close properly. Leaking exhaust gases can burn valve seats and that may hurt your wallet.. I'm just an amateur, working on my toys. Congratulations, great job!! waiting for the next episode.
Thank you 😊
Fin video! Personlig foretrekker jeg voice over fremfor AI generert tale.
Takk for kommentaren 😊. Hehe 🙂. Men eg må kanskje berre gå inn for å prøva meir. Håpar du får til å lese dette. 🙂
Voice over er kanskje beste alternativ? Ser deg i neste video!
thats ...hm werd that no trace after what have made all the alu in the oil filter can be seen
Agreed! I don’t know for sure, but I am leaning to a theory that all the metal particles and flakes is from an earlier breakdown. Possibly a melted piston and that the bottom end of the motor was not touched. But I do not know for sure.. all inside of the motor looks ok, except gor signs of general wear from the particles..
A lot of work here! Amazing result of body repair. Inspiring to do same job :)
Thanks a lot 😊! Appreciate it. Still lot to do, but it is just as much about the journey as the final result 🙂
Please show us the rest of the project have the same bike and same thing happened during my last oil change 😢
Thanks for the comment 🙂. Sorry to hear about your oil change. This weekend I tore down the engine and split the case. Lots of cleaning in near future 😅. Plan to make an episode out of it. 🙂 hopefully the engine case halves and cylinder head is usable..
I fully understand You and share your patience . I went through the same routine fixing my rusty chevy van 1,5 year ago.. it was all the way down to a naked bones ... well done
Guess it is not for all, but some of us are wired that way 😅. Chevy van? They can be cool! A lot of car (like big) to fix if it has rust issues I can imagine 🙂
@@halvardollikainen3999 yep .. here in nothern europe where we have tons of salt on a roads during winter .. no chances to escape rust .. I have chevrolet astro AWD , listed it by 5 cm, instaled transfer case from chevy blazer and made it 4x4 , also many cuts and welds and on top raptor paint. lots of nerves and time
Awsome
Thanks 😊
Que le paso al motor? Parece que se estuviera deshaciendo algo😢
Thanks for the comment! I have not found time to investigate it yet. Just removed the engine and placed it on my work bench. Soon hopefully 🙂.. kind of looking forward to dig into it. I hope it is something that can be fixed. 😅
have you look in to that any more '?
Takk for kommentar 🙂. 🙂
yes - looking to see that caused such a massive aluminium flake
Thanks for the comment 🙂. Hope the crankcase is still usable. I have very bad experiences with buying «good and working» used parts like that 😅
@@halvardollikainen3999 I have 8 old motorcycles in my garage and all of them have issues .. so I understand what you say
But if you are like me, it is much more more satisfying to work on an old bike, than looking on a new. Guess it sounds kind of weird, but makes sence to me at least 😅
@@halvardollikainen3999 well I love and hate in a same time ... stockholm syndrom :). Old stuff has more spirit and people appreciate it , but often it cost a lot of nerves.. no it not weird - for me its normal . keep on
I think I have to do the same with mine. Takk før videoen.
Thank you for the comment 😊. If I can do it, so can you. Good luck 😊👍

Hi! I’m renovating a tt350 ‘89 and need to get a rebuild kit for the carburetor as well as that diaphragm, where did you buy it?? 😊
Hi! Good te hear these old dual sport bikes are still taken care of 😊👍. Most parts that I replaced was original parts still available from a yamaha dealer. Strangely, the diaphragm in the secondary carburetor (right side) is discontinued and not possible to get new original part. Quite stupid, as this is one of the most likely parts to go bad.. that diaphragm I bought from a seller on ebay (after marker part), but it works great. And installation was relatively easy, as long as you dont screw up the glueing part (which I did the first try 😅). I think you will find a seller for a similar diaphragm by searching «diaphragm xt350 carburetor». Good luck 😊
@ thank you, i’ve found and ordered the parts from eBay as you said! Can’t wait to get it going 👍🏼
very interesting and informative , thanks/kiitos
Moi! Thank you for the kind words 😊.
Hey!
@@halvardollikainen3999 Thanks! I just bought new valve stem seals - are those the ones you refer to? I see the oil coming out on the side of the cylinder (not near the exhaust connection) and then at the very tip of the silencer in the rear back where it smokes like crazy. The exhaust does not seem to have any holes at least (the smoke it the perfect check for that :D )
If it was leaking from the top or between the top and the cylinder, I would consider replace cylinder cover gasket and seals for cylinder cover bolts. These are not the valve seals. But in your case, it sounds as it might be valve seals or leakage through piston rings? A leak down test og compression test will verify this. Is it running strong and starts easy? If the piston and cylinder have high mileage and are original, it might be time to inspect and consider servicing 🙂
@@halvardollikainen3999 uhh. yeah it has high mileage but it normally starts and runs perfectly. I have already bought the seals and the valve cover gasket so will replace these and see if that works! thanks so much!!
Lykke til 😊👍
Nice man, I´m sure you can get that kickstarter and clutch sorted. I bought a 1989 XT 350 earlier this year. I use it to ride around the hills where I live. They´re great bikes and fun to ride.
Thanks for the comment 😊! Yes, I got it sorted. Been using the bike on small trips and commuting to work when the weather permitted this summer. Really crappy weather, so it has not been used too much. Agreed, they are great bikes. Drove a similar dual sport moped (50cc) when I was 16 and it brings tons of nostagly and a little more power than the moped had 😅.
Overstunning clean carburettor 😅👍
It’s the inside that counts 😅
Congratulations!! Great job. I have the same model in Spain. It´s a marvellous bike.
Thanks! I like the bike a lot 🙂👍! Just like the 50cc dual sport mopeds I drove when 16, just a bit faster 😅
Takk for videoen!

Hi! Thank you for the kind words 😊. The kick axle is expensive, but What can you do… I wanted it to be fixed and looked away when I paid the money 😅. I guess the norwegian currency don’t help you, so I answer in dollars. It cost 300 us $ for the axle (or somewhere around there).
nice that you have fix that problem :-) '( en fungerande kick är skönt att ha )

The Hyundai Galloper, basically a late 80's Dodge Raider /Mitsubishi montero that was built by Hyundai under license back in the 80's & 90's
Thanks for the comment. I really think these cars are coming classics. There are still many around here in Norway but they suffer heavily from rust and I think there will be a lot less in just a few years. Cool looks, good 4x4 system and solid mechanics, whats not to like 😅

Thank you for the kind words 😊. Nice to hear from you! Almost all bolts on lower and upper control arms sheared off and many more. So I believe you 😅. Some small things left on the chassis before I start on the body. I have some welding to do too. Here in norway salt is used during winter time also. The cars really suffer. I agree about the cars! Simple and robust mechanics, capable 4x4 and very little electronics make it a good for what I want to use it for 🙂. (Don’t plan on breaking any land speed records soon 😂)
Looks good 🙂 starts to look like an car!
