USED IONIQ5 - GOING USED EV SERIES #usedioniq5
Hey and thanks for tuning in this week.
This week, I dive into my 'Going used' series, picking out great used EVs which at the time of publishing this video are priced perfectly for most consumers to indulge.
However, there's a lot of scepticism of the longevity of battery/motor technology and whether it can survive longer than we anticipate. In this 'Going Used' series, I intent to test these aging EVs and pick out any issues or point up where they're doing things right.
In this video I look at the Ioniq 5, Hyundai's first leap into 800v architecture and their first major ground up electric vehicle since the integration of an electronic drive chain in the Kona.
Specifically, after 2.5 years of degradation, is this Ioniq 5 still able to offer a great range if any at all? What's the cabin like? The paintwork? Interior? Is it a good or bad recommendation?
If you enjoy this kind of content on my channel, a LIKE, SUB and SHARE would be fantastic and help push this content to more people who are into electric vehicles and cars.
Thanks to Ezoo.co.uk for supplying the vehicle in this video
Over cars you may enjoy....

Air temperature is key to range and at 10c, it makes sense that you're range was much reduced, as too was driving at 71mph. I did Lowestoft to Tonbridge (134 miles) with 41% battery left in my Zoe ZE50 R135, albeit with OAT at 24c and a more sedate 60mph on dual carriageways. Worked out about 4.3 miles per kW.

I've got the same car and model and have issues with the 'lane assist' pulling me off the road while driving straight and a 'loud turbine sound' coming from the car's hood. The car also has difficulty censoring its surroundings e.g. lane lines, cars, and road signs. MG did not recognize these as defects but fixed two other defects I had i.e. rust on MG front logo/sign and battery issue. I'm not satisfied with the purchase because of these issues and because IMO the standard model is very dry, with few features, a crappy app, and bad software design

Hello Stuart. Will going as low as 3% degrade the battery, done regularly, or is there a recommended battery %age that ideally you should not go below? Are the percentage and range reliable unlike conventional cars telling you 50 mile range then a few seconds later 0? Really interesting how close the ranges are, Thank you for a a very informative video.

With the bettery's longevity in mind, idealy you don't want to go lower than 10%. Some experts even say 20%. Which means that both these cars have much lower ranges than advertised. Nothing shocking really. These official tests they do are BS and all manufactuerers overadvertise their products. If you need a car for 250mile roadtrips, get something with a much larger battery to get a realistic 250 mile range without sacrificing the life of the battery. Or.....have some common sense and get a conventional car. EVs are more like.....toys at the moment, or best case scenario, city cars.

Its a nice car, pity it's electric! , Not sure that cheap, chinese electrics inspires confidence. Does it come with a fire extinguisher? Although its actually not cheap compared to a better petrol, some of which with modern engines will be cheaper to run depending where your charging and costs. Petrol are definitely cheaper to fix, they also do more miles without the range anxiety of charging and the axiety of spontaneously catching fire!! Think its more for town and for the nieve who know nothing of cars apart from what they read in the guardian!! 4 times the carbon footprint of a petrol car to make! Not to mention the minerals for the batteries that have to be sourced and mined! Then there's the toxic waste from the battery afterwards! They still have to be plugged in and that energy comes from gas and oil powerstations!!! Crazy! Electrics is so much more expensive to repair and service and is the first thing to go wrong on any car, so why would you fully depend on an eggs in one basket rediculas idea! Totally neive, but to each thier own! 😂😂

Two observations: 1. Most people would not go below 10% due to anxiety, 2. An indicated 70mph is really 68mph true. Thus, the real warm weather range was 210 miles or c. 200 miles at an indicated 72mph (70 mph true). The real winter range would be c. 20% less, thus a real motorway range of c. 160 miles.

By the time the car got to 10%, that was 3 hours of driving! How big is your bladder? Seriously, I would suggest that a 10 to 15 minute stop every 200 miles or every 2 hours is important for safety. Provided reasonably spaced high powered working chargers are available on route, 250 mile range is plenty.

most notable is a key dimension - width - The Kia Niro has one of the narrower profiles compared to all other EVs making it more likely to fit in the standard UK tiny garage for those lucky enough to have one.

@@simotronic Yes indeed - luckily the older Niro EV is also 45 mm (just under 2 in) shorter with a length of 4375 mm vs the newer one's 4420 mm. Luckily I have a garage 5308 mm interior length, a door aperture of 2088 mm and full width of 2880 mm... tight but usable.

Nice video, however, mind that ANY kind of battery chemistry is at the most stressed state when fully charged or fully discharged. It is true the it's not as bad with LFP compared to NCM but it will still happen, so if you don't need max range all the time and you want longevity, limit the charging. Charge fully only ocasionally for calibration.
