why do you change the paste, is it needed on those realiable tanks as jasper or tonaskets ? Mine is 13 years old, never changed the paste, and it works like a charm, even in long sessions, it is so quiet.

update!!!! ok it went back to sounding shrill when it dried up (after about 10 minutes). when i scrubbed it again, it worked perfectly, but each time it has time to dry, it starts doing it again. my guess is that there's some kind of conductive residue being left behind. i'm not quite sure how to get rid of it. it almost has a sticky texture in the vicinity. i'm using 91% iso and a toothbrush, but that only wets it, it doesn't seem to allow me to remove the conductive gunk that's causing this issue. what can i use to get rid of this stuff? (original post) you fk'in fixed my genesis. thank you lol. i had this stupid issue where the audio was blaring and shrill or a LONG ASS TIME. i recapped, replaced the audio amp chip (replacing that chip did improve audio, but it was still shrill when collecting rings)... last ditch effort, scrubbed the damn system down with alcohol and toothbrush, mainly the CPU pins and the cartridge slot pins (a lil corrosion in these areas)... it's fixed. now to replace my reset button (it's shot, rubber's torn, it just needs to be replaced completely).

Was that rubbing alcohol you used on the qtip for cleaning the contacts?

For some reason, the H shaped metal tray for the composite has black wires leading to the connectors welded to it. Is this normal for some official composite cables or has mine been messed with before?

I just bought a cheap third party component cable on Amazon some days ago, this is worse than the original AV xbox cable lol, for 8 bucks this is one of my worst purchase ! I was not expecting a really high picture quality, but at least I thought it would have been at least better than AV, but no, the image has artefacts, with weird colored lines crossing the screen, and sometimes the top of my screen is flickering ! I just saw this video because I have an OG xbox 360 cable like that lying around and I was pretty sure it was possible to do this, sadly I don't have the materials required for that, nothing for welding etc... so my question is ? Is it possible to just, cut both wires at the "middle", the one from OG xbox and the one from the OG xbox 360 and just join the wires (without having to open the plug, and weld wires) ?

it really makes you wonder why microsoft changed the connector from the og to the 360 they could have saved production costs and made component from the start… microsoft does idiotic things though so thats on par i guess😂

I made it! Looks so much better than aliexpress component cable. But instead of cutting it i just removed the Xbox 360 connector (flathead screwdriver for the plastic clips and bend some metal like on the classic cable) and desoldered everything from the Xbox 360 cable connector. Much easier because inside all ground wires are shrink tubed and ready to solder on the classic cable. :) Btw thanks for the video, i finally have a good Xbox Classic component cable!

I recently bought my first console, a ps3. The console itself was in incredible condition, but the controller.... pure horror. It was the first time I had to take apart any piece of tech. The controller was not only dirty, but the spring for the shoulder button was broken. Had to wait a few days in order to replace it. Now that I've cleaned everything I can enjoy some classics ;)

I've never taken apart a controller before but I didn't want to buy another one. The left thumbstick was acting haywire and causing the right stick to move when it wasn't supposed to. The buttons weren't responsive as they should be. This totally helped me now it's working perfectly.

Maybe I dont Understand but first must be Audio right - red to pin 1 and it's ground to pin 2. Or it depends on cables ?
