Mao was the only female athlete at the time to jump 3-3 twice after her first fall at the 2008 World Championships. She was the only Asian to win three times until Kaori won the World Championships in 2024. Kaori is the only Asian to win 3 World Championships in a row, and maybe next year she will win 4 in a row!

The 3A was attempted by Asada Mao in 2010 and 2014, Nagasu Mirai in the 2018 Olympics, and seven girls in 2022! Mao achieved the feat of three successful 3A at the Vancouver Olympics, and I'm sure some amazing girls will achieve it in the near future!

After watching this video, I can't imagine how cheated a skater must feel when they go through the trouble of refining a jump by having correct edges and rotation, only to see someone else completely botch the jump and get the same credit for it.

Poor woman although she did beat Tara Lipinski not long before the Olympics at Trophee Lalique. I think the Olympics like lots of athletes, aka Kurt Browning, Kirstie Marshall etc some people just freeze up & can't perform properly!

Tonya's triple axel was the best.....Midori Ito was a good jumper but she always looked bow-legged when she skated...Tonya was a much better skater..too bad she was a criminal!!

Ironically ,she deserved the gold medal at lillheammer and did not have ! She was robbed ! But cause of all her bad performances between 1991/1993 , i am so happy she was not olympic champion !

I don't know how Nancy managed to place higher than Tonya during the free skate in Albertville. Yes Tonya fell on her triple axel attempt and doubled her 2nd triple toe in the triple-triple attempt, but she skated well in the rest of her program. Nancy had more mistakes on simpler elements, which are singling her 2nd toe loop and lutz, plus the fall on a triple salchow

this is the skater that some fans insist is SO much better than Nancy Kerrigan? She basically relies on a 50/50 triple axel, and she was in a huge 3A drought at the end of her career. She got banned at the right time to save preserve her legacy when she just didn't have it anymore. Every time she speaks she makes so many excuses for herself that it's embarrassing. Also she at the very least knew about the attack

I found her movements to be stiff and cold , technically correct but there just wasn’t flow or emotion or rhythmic synergies compared to the flexibility and emotion of Oksana she won the gold fair and square in 94

Bad attitude embarrassing

say what you will about the technique, but the height and power of her jumps are absolutely thrilling. the 3A at 00:40 is just incredible. i don't think anyone has ever replicated that, regardless of better "technique." it feels like skaters barely come off the ice these days. they're beautiful, but not exciting imo.

She was a fantastic skater but did not have the mental strength needed. Moreover, she was very fast on the ice, gaining a high speed before her jumps, which was very risky because she jumped quite high in the air. That's a shame because she was very talented and a genuine sense of aesthtics an choreography...

A great showcase of Tonya's exceptional ability to do a triple lutz! And as others have said, a better lutz than many of those who are doing them today, albeit with arms over their heads (quite annoying!).

She's a great athlete, aside from smoking, drinking and whatever else she did, but she certainly wasn't graceful. Did she really think clubbing Nancy was gonna change that?
