    Who had the original Transformation Mantra? Arguably it was Superman, from the 1930’s radio show. When the actor had to signal to the listening audience that he was changing from Clark Kent to Superman by saying “This is a job.” then in a deeper voice, “for Superman.”

    THIS WAS SO FUCKING GOOD! It would be completely understandable for these creators to humor you guys when it comes to the details of their work-for-hire experiences from 30(!) years ago. Not only is Jeph's exacting recall amazing (down to issue numbers, which is absurd), but his interest and openness in speaking on this time really admirable. I really felt like I got a candid, insightful, and riveting accounting of what it was like to exist in that particular environment. Not just waxing nostalgic... Jeph got down to the nitty-gritty. From the people, to the politics, to the product itself, it was like a guided tour with a masterful storyteller. I came away just wanting to hear him talk about anything from his career for DAYS. Absolutely loving the '90s creator interviews, and this was a true standout. There are so many names you don't see in comics anymore (and Jeph named a few) I am desperately curious to hear from (like what the hell are Mark Powers and Terry Kavanaugh up to these days??) Keep 'em coming!

    When I started with X-Men in issue 200, Magneto was the leader, so I tempered my expectations. Then there was the FALL OF THE MUTANTS, and they were exiled to the Outback ' then we had an Inferno that led to the Siege Perilous. We only had 3 titles X-Men ' New MUTANTS and X Factor. It was wild time as an X fan.

    A couple of thouhts: Want '90 X-man back, but I´m a '90s lover. I have the same reaction, back in the day, why Nate didn´t reach out Siryn/Sonique (I remember to have some hope when X-Force get in charge to take care of Nate in the Onslaught Saga). And I will always love X-man #25 with Nate in the middle of a Maddie and Jean fight. Finaly, that was the best X-Force era.

      thank you so much for listening! I LOVE ISSUE 25 as well! It was always so odd to me that Nate did NOT go searching for Forge or Siren, especially when they were in the same room during Onslaught! But now we know...

    • @cyke68
      @cyke68 8 днів тому

      I know that Nate and his series do not have the most... sterling reputation, but that really was a solid little book for like, exactly its first 35 issues. It's a steep decline from there, with some occasional bright spots still: the 3-parter with Scott and Jean, Generation X crossover, Nate taking a shower with Johnny Storm, ...Ah, anyway, for as long a run as it had, there were definitely some missed opportunities. Why not use those issues in the doldrums to do those Forge and Siryn meetings. Or even some more shit with Sinister; it's kind of crazy how few interactions they had in the 616. Nate really should've played a bigger role in the Twelve, at least during the final showdown with Apocalypse. But I guess by then the writing was on the wall.

    FUCK variant covers. Preach! They are such a pain in the ass. Necessary evil, but I really don't understand how/why there is still a market to support them. Anyway, I am likewise pumped and still a little bit in disbelief to finally have Crystal incoming, let alone getting the deluxe treatment with Lockjaw. I can confirm I was not a Disney Parks cast member moonlighting on AOL message boards back in the day, but I have been clamoring for a Crystal action figure since goddamn 1993. As a huge fan of the Harras/Epting Avengers run, she and Sersi were on my most wanted figures list for over THIRTY YEARS. And even though we finally got Sersi in that two-pack, imma still need a version in the classic green one-piece with a head better head sculpt so I'm not looking at Courtney Cox. And by the same token, I'm gonna keep demanding Crystal in her Avengers bomber jacket lol. Do another Love Triangle 3-pack with Black Knight since his figure needs an upgrade too. With as much as an asshole as Pietro is, Crystal never needed much of a push to step out on him. But listen, '90s Dane was a fuckin babe. 😂 I'll read Exceptional X-Men once it hits Unlimited. As for the Team, is interesting seeing the inside of each character and how Cyclops have to deal with that much diversity. I really liked Kwannon, so it a pleasent surprise she is back and with this amount of spotlight (since the Krakoa, but now as a member of a Flag Tittle). And now, I remember the Temper was kind the beggining of Schism and now she is with Cyclps, interesting. And Temper & Quentin have history since Wolverine and The X-men. Don´t give up on Adam. This FLEW by!! Scott is a great storyteller, on and off the page, and I couldn't believe the whole hour had passed at the wrap-up point. Delighted to hear there will be a next time. Thank you guys for keeping not merely the IDEA, but the REALITY, of this era alive. Not to be pissy, but I feel like too many fans gloss over the mid-'90s period or talk about it from a place of half-truths and vague memories of what it was like. Or to Scott's point regarding the lack of credit, much of this work just gets lumped in with or even falsely attributed to Jim Lee's tenure on the books. And that's such a shame, because the guys behind the '91 relaunch were only around for a little over a year, whereas Scott (along with Fabian Nicieza) hastily scrambled to rebuild and cobble something together out of the mess of abandoned plots in the wake of the Image exodus - a thankless task they succeeded in with a run lasting YEARS. Like, this was not some cup of coffee or minor footnote in X-Men history. The speculator bubble might have burst, but the animated series was going strong and the books were still doing MASSIVE sales. The details matter, and more importantly, so do the human beings at the forefront of this time period. Sure, Jim Lee's influence cast a long shadow that persisted for years beyond his departure. But some of the blame for this lack of giving credit where credit's due can also be placed at Marvel's feet, and I think that was partially by design. I get the sense that, having been "burned" by the Image founders, Marvel was pretty reluctant to let any creator get bigger than their books again. Not to mention writers in general being devalued in comparison to artists back then. Point being, the emphasis was on the IP to sell itself, rather than the reputation and merits of the creatives. As a writer who was the one constant circa 1993-1997 when this "policy" was in full effect, Scott Lobdell was impacted by it more than most. At the same time, he's quick to give praise and compliment his collaborators - many of whom have otherwise gone totally overlooked or been outright forgotten. Great hearing the props for Brandon Peterson as an example, whose stint on UNCANNY was brief, but underrated. I so love getting into the weeds of my formative comics-reading heyday. Anway, this has been a long-winded way of saying I appreciate ya'll always keeping it real and honoring the actual HUMAN BEINGS responsible for creating the characters, universe, and stories that inform so much of who we are.

I thought she was a new character for the game. so basically magma would’ve filled the gap as that created new character that we play as it’s just we didn’t create her. Also do you think there is a possibility we get X-Men legends three? After like 10 years, we got marvel ultimate alliance three. This is definitely one game I would camp outside of a store for. However I actually feel like Jean is acting like herself and I love her psychic calls with Scott. So I think Jean knows that Corsair is purposely being an ass and she is not playing into it, which is why she is unbothered by his antics. What I don't understand is why is Scott having such negative feelings towards his dad? Last I remember they had a nice dinner at the moon house and everything was fine. Did something else happen in between? It feels like they just made up some drama here, idk.
