    I want to be excited about X-Men comics again. Thank God Unlimited X-Men is coming.

    Thank you for the updates. I think I'll just read the gaps I missed over the years and stick with the show. Krakoa really could have been something great and now it just seems like Disney wants it's lesser vehicles/the comics to match their more popular ones/show and movies.
    On the positive I'm reading Excalibur for the first time and LOVING IT❤

      I truly wish the Hickman-Krakoa era would be a household name like how the Jim Lee Gold/Blue era was. The potential was there but I think it boiled down to poor editorial direction and a genuine lack of understanding who these characters are at the core.

    I am indifferent about the implied concept of Storm being a politician, but it might be better in practice than in theory. We know absolutely nothing other than a mere tease. You might know a little more than most, because of rumors and things they've told you about in private, but still not enough to really judge where they're going in terms of the specifics.

      RE: Storm, I'm on the same page as you and don't know anything beyond this tease. I'm in if they can tell a good story about it. However, I have no faith because Krakoa was a wonderful opportunity to tell a really interesting political story....and dont get me wrong, there was SET UP for that potential,....but it ultimately didnt deliver on its potential. LETS SEE how it goes...maybe she'll just be a senator?

    Though I admit the 97 costumes are iconic for me, they're a little dated.

    You know what this is reminding me of? The 2000 "Revolution" Claremont return, which went for a very conservative, back-to-basics approach in terms of the featured characters, while also trying to move the ball forward conceptually... and it just FLOPPED. It was an era similarly characterized by different camps of fandom: some wanted something old, others wanted something new. And the books were simply too under-committed in fulfilling either objective to satisfy anyone (among other deficiencies of course). I am not at all enthused nor prepared to put myself through THAT again. I dunno, every jumping on point also makes for a really convenient jumping off point. I've said that in terms of my personal headcanon, the X-Men's story spiritually ended with Second Coming. I question what I'm still holding on to, more than a decade removed now. I know it's a lot of speculation on the basis of one promo image and a Bleeding Cool article, but I just have a bad feeling (or a BLAH feeling). Might be time to officially call it a day.

      YES YES! It reminds me of that era as well. Yes, I agree with you Second Coming was a definitive end to what we had gotten at that point, you can trace a line from Outback to Second Coming. And that ending with the promise of the lights and Emma seeing Hope as Jean. Perfect. Then we got AvX? then the O5 (which I didnt hate tbh) and then IVX??? HoX/PoX seemed to be a PROMISE at something new. That first series was brilliant...and then it just fell apart...quickly. idk idk but I always love your comments.

      @@powerofxmen Yeah, I hesitate to draw a hard line in the sand at Second Coming since there WAS some good stuff that followed. AvX kind of sucked, but really put Queer Rage Cyclops on the map. I feel like I SHOULD have hated the O5 era, but... see previous comment lol, and also it just managed to be kind of fun. I guess I could stretch it to Secret Wars. I just like to think of Second Coming as going out on a really high note. Anyway, point being, I never want to find myself turning into one of those fans who hates and complains about everything, while still buying under some kind of entitled delusion that one day they'll go back to making these books "for me" again. It's crazy to think at the peak of my fandom, circa AoA and Onslaught, I was this 12 year old kid who thought he knew something about X-Men having not entirely pleasant interactions with grown men on fucking Usenet. Super curmudgeonly dudes longing for the return of Claremont (years before it happened) to set everything right. I'd just think, "Man haven't they gotten the memo... what are these guys still in it for??" All these years later, I now finding myself having a lot more in common with that type of fan and it's a bit of a reality check. I guess that's why I've been living a little bit vicariously through this podcast lately. We don't often find the people and things we need in life exactly WHEN we need them; while I wish I knew you when I was that kid on Usenet, I'll settle for knowing you at all. At the end of the day, community is what keeps it real.

      I agree 💯. Same same about being that original fan boy from the 90s who’s now holding on

    Not excited for any character not in the 90s tv show in the comics that I love (aside from Kate) because tv/media always changes the comics direction at the end of the day for whatever is popular

    I feel like it is not uncommon knowledge in online circles that lots of people who have gotten jobs as X-Men writers have/had a crush on Kitty. She was thirteen when lots of old guys were thirteen lol

    • @powerofxmen
      @powerofxmen  7 місяців тому +1

      yea, you're right but at what point do the editors/publishers look at sales and ask if she leading a team is bringing in the sales numbers. the answer MUST BE yes, is all the point I was trying to make.

    • @morpheuse6788
      @morpheuse6788 7 місяців тому +1

      @powerofxmen I think beyond Wolverine, who everyone knows gets sales, they go based on what they are passionate about i.e. typically Cyclops, Emma (another crush), and Kitty. And they loooooove Cable. They are going to try a Cable-focused series seemingly every other year, if not every year, regardless of how the previous one sold. Those are all characters your stereotypical X-office is super into. Playing devil's advocate, the Bendis All-New X-Men had good sales, and Kitty was pretty prominent in that and this is Kitty in a look reminiscent of then. Maybe they see a sales angle in that? But mostly I think they just like her lol.
      If you put me in charge of X-Men, there would be more Jean presence than you can shake a broccoli floret at, so who am I to judge? Lmao
