Hi Will, one thing to take into consideration w the Mysterybrain is that its going a little further than just an RE-301 clone. Brian Setzer of the BSO/ Straycats fame would do takes of his studio recordings w the RE-301 space echo, and overlay the tracks afterwards w an echoplex. Mix magazine shares this.. So the BS-301 Mysterbrain has both the RE301 space echo preamp AND an Echoplex preamp. The EP pre though is connected only to the wet slapback signal of the tape echo circuit. Also there is an additional preamp connected to the vibrato circuit. Essentially 3 gain stages on tap to get more of a tape saturation "dirty setzer" meets vintage cliff gallup response. ps. the entire pedal is analog other than the echo chip which is a low res digi chip. The analog dry signal is always moving through the circuit and is not processed in 1's and 0's For what its worth :)

Interestingly, Little Junior Parker wrote "Mystery Train" in 1953 and the original riff back then (played by either Floyd Murphy or Pat Hare, I'm not sure) sounds very different from both Moore's and Setzer's. The rhythm is also totally different, as it was originally a blues song before it was recorded in a rockabilly style.
