Firstly, thanks very much. I'm currently using the latest version, but it doesn't really matter. I suspect in this video it was 3.24. There is some initial setup, but it likely looks different on mine because I'm using a Mac in this video rather than PC, so the menu is slightly different.

go to Settings > Options, then navigate to the CRS tab and select the desired CRS under "CRS for New Projects

@@flatbit3090 also it may look different as there is a little bit of initial setup if I remember rightly. Like changing the panels and the view. Things I have along with the main area usually is just the browser and layers. They're the two important ones. Properties and processing you can load as and when you need them.

​@@jonescrusher1something as simple as not verifying an email address or they have had an issue, but they power the NLS maps, so typically don't have much down time. It may be something else underling.

@@unearthers looks like it was because i was using my google account to sign in, i signed up with email , verified it, seems to be working now

Hi, sorry but I'm not sure exactly what you mean? By default there are no layers. I have online layers in the browser area which I can drag into my layers to build up a virtual map

It may be that you need the long term build for now if support isn't in there for some reason?

I'm not sure if they're in the environment viewer downloader, but they definitely have lidar datasets for download.

The LiDAR Composite doesn’t appear to be available for Scotland.

@@kasperponte6423 of course it's one of the first things I wanted to tinker with. The categoric answer is no. It's too subjective where chatgpt is very general. Does it exist on ai? Yes absolutely. I can't remember her name, but an archaeologist spent 7 years building and training a model specifically to identify historic sites from lidar data. Its mega money to access of course and only available to official bodies/institutes understandably

I cant right this second, but to replicate the hillshade will be easy. Just upload your DEM and write: create a hillshade with a zfactor of 15 using matplotlib

Like all things it's a research tool. Using this and other methods can help lead to a much better chance of finding treasure. I have personally helped lead people to hoards and treasure finds.

@@StevieMoore-q3c Ah, gotcha. Just go to Project>Properties>CRS>then type in 27700 (if you're in the UK) and set it as your default there.

Yes there are, but some areas are limited. Take a look at my latest video uploaded today. There's a link in the description with worldwide places to obtain data

This specific video relates to UK maps. Not all countries in the world have governments who provide this data which is usually taken via aircraft. If it isn't available, then you wouldn't be able to create the maps, sorry.

I've tried searching online but as I'm not really sure what I'm looking for (ie a generic term for that kind of software) I'm not having much luck. Hey Michael, if you head to view - panels (I think) - layers then it should pop up. You can also load view - panels - browser as well which is also visible in the left panel 🙂

Hi there, it depends on how you record the finds. If you use an app where you can export gpx or kml files, then you can import them directly into qgis as a layer.

@@unearthers - At the moment I just record the BNG coordinates by photographing the find alongside a handheld GPS. In the GIS system I use at work (Global Mapper) it's trivially easy to create a point at given coordinates. I can't seem to work out how to do this with QGIS :-(

@@peterbriggs3408 ah right, ok. Yes global mapper makes a lot of things easier and it took me a long time to step away. It's not perfect, but you can edit the location of an existing point on a map gis.stackexchange.com/questions/296574/creating-a-point-in-qgis-3-2-2-with-coordinates

Yeah - spotted that one. Just seemed odd that it was so difficult rather than just a basic function

@@peterbriggs3408 there's a few quirks with qgis for sure, but it's infinitely more expandable than Global Mapper and free. My work also pays for global mapper which I do use, but I wouldn't want the licencing bill, that's for sure. If you use a GPS unit to record location, you should be able to export all of the spots as a kml or gpx file somehow. If you're recording lots of locations, I think that's how I'd do it.

Yes you have to have an account and no you dont need windows now. The whole update is don't via browser. It's only compatible with a limited number of browsers but includes Chrome, Opera, Edge etc...

Hi Joseph, I suspected it was due to the volume of traffic, and I've just heard that their verification server is lagging. I'm sure they'll have it cleared soon, but there will be a ton of people jumping on to try.

While it isn't officially supported by Mac, you may be able to update using a virtual machine, however that in itself can bring around issues.

So, all of my data is published by the UK government. I know in other areas of Europe, various countries do something similar, but you'd have to do some research.

Scotland do their own thing with Lidar. Not everywhere is covered, but have a Google for Scotland lidar. Also I'd recommend checking out my QGIS video which will give you a better base to work from
