Hello, and welcome to this anniversary special.
On the 13th of November 2014, our team of eight converged on Madrid Barajas airport where we boarded the overnight flight to Buenos Aires in Argentina. The following morning we caught an internal flight down to El Calafate in Patagonia, and from there we had a private transfer to El Chaltén.
We would be based in El Chaltén for three weeks which we hoped would be sufficient time to enable us to undertake the ice cap traverse.
While we recovered from jet lag we practiced pitching our tents in the ever-present wind and explored El Chaltén and the surrounding area taking in the sights and sounds of the frontier town.
The required weather window appeared in the forecast and after buying gas and other supplies, on the 17th of November our taxi dropped us off at the trailhead for the start of our adventure.
