    • @gullreefclub

      I figured out years ago that most people problem with doing wiring/electrical work is a combination of being intimidated about doing it because someone else witches and moans about doing it along with a general lack of knowledge of how to properly and efficiently troubleshoot an electrical issue and have even less knowledge or desire to do the repair job correctly. Step number one is learn how to solder wires together and how to read and understand a wiring diagram as well as DVOM, and a Power Probe. The final trick about doing electrical work is never be in a hurry this doesn’t mean screwing off but rather taking the time to understand and make appropriate repairs that look at least as good as what was installed from the factory.

      Great video as always. Enjoyed watching you fix your combine. Very educational and helps me learn more about things to watch out for and things that might be broken or just need to be replaced. It is great that you can fix your own machinery.

      Exactly, most of the wiring/electrical work that I run into is aged wiring or bad repairs that was done by someone else did that I have to redo.

      The hardest thing for us is that we try to plan on things each year and not have to spend thousands each year when it won't be a major problem.

    • @dahlfarms

      Yup, you can have metal or rubber rollers, our last mower had rubber and this has metal. Personally, I don't see much of a difference in how well it crimps it.

      It was a really wet spring and there was a lot of moisture. We haven't really had a lot of rain since then. A good rain will drown them and not have a need for an insecticide pass.

    Can i ask you say you have used a number of balers , what would you say is the best make you have used , we make round bale silage and we have a contractor , or custom guy as you say bale it he has a very new John Deere baler and it makes the best bales , so tightly packed and very heavy , but just interested to know what you think ? I am in England UK and we rear cattle to Beef weight

    • @dahlfarms
      @dahlfarms Місяць тому

      For us, it was dealer support and parts availability was a huge part of my decision to stay with John Deere. If someone gets to know their own machine, they can make just as good as any other baler. I think a person also needs to have a goal and an idea of what they are after to make a selection.

    Round baling looks easy but it sounds like there needs to be some skill involved to make a nice bale. How long would it take for a beginner to learn this process?

    • @HeresMinx
      @HeresMinx 2 місяці тому

      there is definitely alot more to it. Most round balers require a perfect balance of hay on either side of the baler to avoid a loose and mishaped bale. You can see the little bars on his monitor in the tractor. It shows you how full each side is. Learning how to bale doesn't take long, but becoming efficient with no wasted movement takes many many years of practice, trial and error. Every single machine is slightly different somehow, each have their own quirks. I produce around 6000 small square, and around 700 round bales each year. A lot of it comes down to who rows the hay. A good rower will make a world of difference. This young man is doing a great job

    • @dahlfarms
      @dahlfarms 2 місяці тому

      I have baled with multiple balers and each one is a little different and has a sweet spot for speed and a timing, but all in all they are fairly similar. I would say give someone 2 dozen bales with some guidance and then let them learn the rest on their own unless they ask. I am a person who likes to learn from experience and hands-on, which applies in my opinion best to farming and equipment.

    What does it mean when there’s oil coming from the manifold because I got an IH 4186 that has just a little oil coming for the manifold as well

    • @dahlfarms
      @dahlfarms 4 місяці тому

      This one happened to be diesel and soot mixing together, for something called wet stacking when the engine doesn't get up to operating temperature, as for oil out the manifold, your turbo could be leaking a little bit or it could be something in the valves. But I would double-check if it is oil, if it is sticky to the touch my guess is it is diesel and soot mixing.
