Ethan, the amount of knowledge you are gaining just by doing your own repairs is amazing! So you should definitely look at consulting with the machine engineers (if not being one your self) on how to build equipment that can be easily repaired.

That is actually part of the reason for posting these things. Not only to give information but to receive it as well. Although I am working on an agribusiness degree now, my girlfriend is working on her engineer degree specific to agriculture and would love to be able to make things better.

For example, this planter frame is nearly 45 years old, updating it is hard and expensive but to be able to do it ourselves with the help of specifications/requirements that need to be met you learn to make things more efficient.
