Avoid this Novated Leasing Nightmare in Australia

    I have been in the asset finance space for years. Most of my clients will do a novated lease once and never again. Everything attached to the maintained novated has a margin including the finance. If you are not claiming any business use on a car just do a regulated consumer loan. Are there tax incentives, yes, as long as you are close to or crossing a tax threshold. Unlikely for most, again everything has a margin. Even if you factor in a $25 per month admin fee from the provider it’s still not work doing. BTW $25 per month would be around 1% variance on the rate on a $50k car. Anyway good to see someone telling the truth about there novated experience

    Fantastic work! I drive a beat up old 2007 Ford Falcon Wagon. Bits falling off everywhere but mechanically unkillable with the inline 4 litre 6 cylinder motor. Runs smoothly and effortlessly. It looks like crap but I love this car! We have a 2013 Amarok, which we purchased 2 years ago. Higher repair bills, however, a super efficient 6 speed manual and a pleasure to drive. I have driven Ford Falcons most of my adult life. 60 years old now.

    Hopefully they can work on the fuel economy for the H9 as the hybrid Tank 300 & 500s just chug fuel like no tomorrow. It makes the hybrid system pointless. I can't even see this car coming to Australia as it's so fuel inefficient and there is no hybrid version, it simply won't sell well here. The Jolion & H6 are selling well because it's cheaper and similar/better than the Toyota equivalents (Prado 7.6L/100km & Kluger 5.6L/100km). If the H9 uses 2x as much fuel (11.4L/100km) as the Toyota equivalent, people will buy the Toyota instead.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU День тому

      How is petrol Kluger anywhere more fuel efficient than either this, or any other GWM vehicle? Of course Jolion & Co sell well because they are cheaper (and almost as good a quality compared to China-made Toyotas like Corolla Cross), and so would this masterpiece if it came to our shores. You pump out a seemingly thoughtful comment but then once I read it, it just twists facts and lacks common sense. Unless I've missed some other very deep meaning you tried to put into this.

    • @elitechampion
      @elitechampion День тому

      @@ValueCarsAU You can't buy a new petrol Kluger so it's a fair comparison as they are only sold as hybrids. From what I read, the H9 doesn't come in a hybrid version. The fuel economy is far worse than the diesel Prado as well.

    That is one sexy beast! I will be back in China from 8-12 October. The overlords are insisting I attend their new factory opening and local government meetings. I've been through these junkets before which are boring as hell, I will just be there as a token foreign customer. At least I don't have to waste time getting a visa anymore... My buddy there recently traded his G Wagen on a new Huawei PHEV. We will never see that here obviously and I am looking forward to going for a ride. Top of the line at $80,000 AUD (over there) and he reckons that the Huawei makes the Merc look like a bucket of 1/2 baked bolts. I never liked the G Wagen much, terrible value for money.

    The car does look impressive. But I'm sure their will be things that annoy me about it. As with all cars. As no car is perfect. However a very strong engine is most important factor for cars of this size. Imagine carrying 7 people, luggage etc and its struggling. It's the trade of between performance v price. If it's cheaper price the engine will be adequate. Not exceptional. Still a good looking car. Best I've seen from haval.

    There’s no doubt that Chinese cars in the main are very well styled and competitively priced. Over the past 5 years however we have been bombarded with journalistic hyperbole about Japanese vehicle manufacturers trembling in their boots with each new Chinese made car coming into market. Except, once in market these Chinese vehicles don’t stand shoulder to shoulder with their Japanese competitors. The selling point of Chinese cars seems to be price, style and warranty not engineering, reliability and life cycle ownership. A fairer target maybe is Stellantis N.V and some Euro products which don’t stand tall with regard to solid reliability and fit for purpose. Not anti Chinese cars, they are good for what they but a Tank 300 is well short of a Pajero Sport as a usable 4wd vehicle and I don’t think a Havel H9 or Tank 500 is in the same Venn as a Prado.

    • @hynoor7254
      @hynoor7254 2 дні тому

      regarding the reliability of the Chinese cars, I think your conclusion could be more convincible after at least 5 years later and review the feedback from the owners, you made you opinion too early.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU 2 дні тому

      The fact of the matter is that no Chinese (or any other relatively new) brand would be able to compete with e.g. Toyota simply due to their longevity on the market and spread across the country. So we might as well give up on anyone winning that competition. Instead, Chinese are doing what Koreans did 15 years ago and persevere iterating faster than Japanese (who plateaued) and offering much better value for money. Not many people need something that would last them 10+ years these days. Times have changed. People exchange cars a lot more often. So, the entry price, quality, luxury (even perceived one) wins hands down - IN MASS MARKET - over longevity.

    Dimitri, thanks for sharing your insight and specification of this impressive new car. Personally, I love it and hope it comes to Australia. It is a further huge leap forward for not only HAVAL but for a whole new era of Chinese 4WDs that will certainly shake up the market and the segment globally. I will say one thing further, I cannot see anyone in their right mind buying a Mercedes G63 or Landrover Defender in Australia if the H9 comes here - just my humble opinion.

    Also, if you are a first home buyer having any kinda of lease / finance really reduces how much you can borrow for a mortgage. If you don't own a home always better to pay cash for whatever car you can afford than take a loan for it.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU 2 дні тому

      I think if you have $50k to pay cash for something like this (not many do), it's always a "better" option without a doubt. But if you have 50k cash you're also better off paying some part of your mortgage principal than putting the whole lump sum into a depreciating asset... Vicious circle of hard choices.

    Good talk. Same thing happened to me. Fortunately my new employer was with the same lease company but it was still really painful. A few points: 1) Make sure you have your own insurance in place before your termination date! I found my previous employer was self insured and I was not covered from the day I left even though I had already paid for the full month! 2) A benefit you didn't touch on is the leasing companies get you a much better deal for the car price than you could walking into a dealer 3) The main benefit is the end of lease payment. Can you buy a 5yo car of that model for $14K? No? Take the difference between that and market value and divide it across your monthly payments. You also know the owner and services history for that second hand car. 4) I get 1 or 2 year leases. You can always extend. But you might end up with a lemon or car you don't like. 5) The pre/post tax stuff is confusing to work out exactly how much benefit you are getting. 6) My petrol card let fill up almost anywhere except 7-11, even though it only had a BP logo on it. Double check if it's a fleet card. 6) Don't forget if you have a current car to calculate how much you also save if you sell it and put that money in your mortgage offset etc. 7) The longer the lease the more GST you save. This doesn't apply to the initial cost so you get an (extra) 10% discount, however you need to pay it on the final payout (which is lower the longer you lease)

      Thanks mate. To your knowledge, can I change terms of my 5 years lease (e.g. reducing it to 3) now that it started?

    • @CountZilch
      @CountZilch 3 дні тому

      @@ValueCarsAU good question. I only ever looked at extending it. They are always happy to do that if the car is no older than 5 years. For breaking the lease I think you would have break costs. Probably depends on the company.

    Car is the biggest depreciating asset. Covid time was unusual that cars didn't depreciate that much and should not be considered a norm. Even of it kept the value, if you have put the same amount of money into real estate or shares, that would have boomed. So I agree from your opening statement. Buy the car you like and also meet your need! Once bought, don't sell it quickly as depreciation is highest in the first few years. Or, consider buying used or demo. It'll still depreciate, but at least not as much.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU 2 дні тому

      No doubt covid times were "special" (in many ways) and cars are depreciating, hence deserving as little raw cash investment as possible.

      You're comparing apples to oranges. A $30k brand new car vs. I don't even know how much a brand new Tesla is? Your local MG dealership might have been the main problem, not the car itself. It's fair quality for it's price range.

    Having worked for a fleet management company that offered novated leasing, here are my tips - 1. The amount you pay pre and post tax is based on the taxable value of the vehicle which is approximately 20% of the purchase price. You pay the taxable value in post tax dollars each year and the rest in pre tax dollars. To increase the proportion you pay pre tax, buy a two year old used car as it would have already depreciated (lowering the taxable value) but still has manufacturer's warranty. 2. Do the numbers on whether you use the company's insurance or your own. If you have a good driving history, you may get insurance cheaper than the fleet policy. However, one advantage of the fleet policy is there is no age restriction or excess. Fleet insurance may be cheaper if you have a poor driving history or have drivers aged under 25. 3. You can generally arrange your own maintenance, insurance or fuel and keep the receipts and claim the expenses back. This is often worthwhile as the fleet company will sometime charge for providing these services. You can buy the cheap fuel and still claim the cost as part of your lease. 4. Whether you buy a vehicle outright or lease it, there is a financial cost of the vehicles price. The lease interest rate will probably be higher than you might source elsewhere and even if you pay cash, that money could have been in the bank earning interest. When comparing costs, use a spreadsheet lease payment calculation over the same time period to compare the difference in payments over time. While the lease interest rate may be higher, the tax saving may still be beneficial. 5. If you don't spend all your budgeted expenses, you will get the remaining funds back at the end of the lease. However, they will deduct the tax payable first. In the last six months of the lease, if it looks like you will have excess funds, either reduce your budgets or look to spend the extra funds. It may be worthwhile to put new tyres on the vehicle in pre-tax dollars than get the extra back after tax. 6. Don't commit to a too large a lease. It's a trap to get caught being mesmerised by the potential big tax saving and not leaving enough of your salary for living expenses. Don't allow yourself to be car rich and cash poor.

    Mentioning all design features, good or bad, poor breaking, but hey… two videos into GWM at all and I read a comment that this tank thing is rusting from new underneath all over! So parking it anywhere on the coast in Australia, where misty salty air covers vehicles by the minute, they wont last long. You don’t even have to use them in 4x4. Do not buy GWM! they rust through before you even had some kms on them!!!!

Not sure what are you reading and where, as literally a ton of various sources are pointing out quite the opposite, even in Russia where they have winters etc. So go spew disinformation somewhere else. Not deleting your comment or banning you only because your comment isn't offensive, just badly informed.

    Thanks for your info. I went through NV when I was younger. First X-Trail model (yes I'm old). Great car but I felt as though I lost out when I needed to cut the lease off by 12 months. Needless to say I didn't understand the contract. I'm now looking at NV again but only going for 3 years this time and looking at EV with the incentives. MG4 mid-spec to be precise. This vid has certainly prompted me to go over every detail and will get an accountant to review the figures with a fine-tooth comb. Hopefully, I'll make the right decision. Enjoy the coffee I sent!
