Heading for the wide open spaces. We've been living in our van since July 2023. Dione began chemo for breast cancer, so we have had a year of being settled near our local hospital. Hopefully travel adventures will begin by end of 2024. Life is good and we love our van, Bryan. #vanlifeuk #vanlife #fulltimevanlife
Are these woods haunted?
Wellington Monument
The tree-lined walk from the carpark to Wellington Monument is along a level gravel pathway. The complete walk is approximately three-quarters of a mile each way, approximately 15 minutes each way. At the end, you’re rewarded with a view of this impressive monument to the Duke of Wellington. This striking monument stands as a tribute to the Duke of Wellington and his victory at the Battle of Waterloo. Standing at 175 feet, it is the world’s tallest three-sided obelisk. The Monument is surrounded by a wildlife-rich meadow.
Some people think these woods are haunted. There is a video on UA-cam from the Somerset Ghost Hunters walking through the woods picking up ghostly sounds. We don't really believe in this, but we were glad we didn't know this at the time. The link to this video is

Minehead Harbour and coastal path
This walk provides views over Minehead Bay and the Bristol Channel to South Wales. It passes the beginning of the South West Coast Path, before looping around the harbour, then visiting Culvercliffe Walk, with children’s play area and picnic spot. Returning towards the town, the walk diverts around Blenheim Gardens.
Kilve
Kilve lying at the northern end of the Quantocks, is a picturesque village consisting of 3 settlements. Here you will find the ruins of the old Chantry, founded in 1329 and once used for storing barrels of spirits smuggled in to Kilve Pill. The beach is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a favourite haunt of geologists with its spectacular rock formations and fossils, including ammonites and reptile remains. You cannot remove these from the beach.

Taunton is the county town of Somerset, England. It is a market town and has a minster church. The foundations of Taunton Minster, St Mary Magdalene church, were probably laid in the early eighth century when Ina, king of the West Saxons established Christianity in Taunton.
The church was first built in stone by 1180. St Mary’s became the town church in 1308.

JEEEEZ THAT TOLL ROAD LOOKS TERRIBLY NEGLECTED. I LAST DROVE MY OLD CAR ALONG THAT TOLL ROAD IN 1958, BECAUSE IT FAILED TO GET UP PORLOCK HILL, AND I HAD TO TURN AROUND. I WOULDN'T RISK IT TODAY.

That hill was hell and we found out later that there is a van that will take you up to the castle 😂😂😂. No cake for me, during chemo I lived on ice cream and biscuits 😂 because it was a great excuse, I actually gained weight 😂 so trying to be a bit healthy now so my knees won't carry so much weight. I still need benches though and probably always will 😂. Thank you for always brightening my day. Keep smiling 😊❤❤

I dont think either of us have ever been on a steam train either, it looks fun and a bit of a novelty. Lovely to see Watchet again, you had better weather than us 😂 Yankee Jack, I totally forgot to include info on him in our video or we just ran out of time, but over his life he sang many sea shanties which have been recorded/written down somewhere. I'm sure there's a National Trust place related to him nearby too. Really astonishing he lived so long - sea air and singing I guess?! The abbey looked a peaceful place to go back to the past, and Minehead is somewhere we've never been, maybe to the supermarket, I can't remember 😂 Hope you're enjoying Somerset ❤
We've lucked out on the weather so far. We had 1 day of rain, a few days of cloud and the rest, sunshine! Although we're back in Redditch today and the car has frosted over this morning! We stayed in hotel last night after driving up for appointments. Blue Anchor looks warmer this morning, so we will be glad to get back there later today! Thanks for the info about Jack! I didn't even think to Google him. Yes, you probably got groceries in Minehead. The morrisons also has LPG. Our train car had old fashioned curtains but none of the others did and the guy we were sat with told us it's because a new Agatha Christie, coming out at Xmas, had been filmed in that train car 2 weeks earlier. Oh Lacock looks perfect, when we drive through that area again we'll have to pay a visit. Did you use mics in that bit where you were both talking in the van introducing the video etc? The sound was really clear given how far back you were. I think you've got the right idea having a little car and then staying on sites for a few weeks. You've gor the best of both worlds, especially when you're in some of the trickier places, like if you go to Cornwall. Safe travels both ❤
No mics in the van. And remember it's deceptive how far back it looks, lol! Definitely recommend Lacock, especially since you have NT. We only saw about 1/3 of it as we missed the mansion and grounds. Advantages for having the car are big for us, but for you guys, you might get bored 😂 but it's great having the extra storage. We will probably ditch the car when we go to Scotland, may be in spring. Like you, we don't plan much 😂 but loving having the car here in Somerset as there are tons of places on our doorstep. ❤️❤️
Love the hair with the blue tips 😍 As you know we went to Cirencester and yes, its very expensive, but nearly 20 quid for a small fish and chips is absurd. Was it battered in gold?! We did however buy a coffee from that little van near the church in the main square, and you know what, that was one of the best Americanos we've ever had. So so smooth, not that we're experts. I dont know why we didnt film it actually. We enjoyed a browse around that huge charity shop too, I nearly bought a jacket but it didnt quite fit. The campsite looked very cosy, i liked the look of the pitches! ❤

The blue skies were so unexpected!! And yes I bought a 4 quid small backpack in the charity shop 😂 my old one was too big and bulky. We will be staying near Weston at the end of the month. Oh my god that drive! I wondered why I recognised the names Burway and Long Mynd, then when I saw you going up it, I realised why. That road scared the absolute **** out of me when we did it a couple of years ago! Never again, and I'm just the passenger 😂 I dont think Stephen fancies trying it again either. I'm really shocked there's no crash barrier. Maybe they leave it like that so the sheep can pass? Either way, I'm surprised there aren't regular horrific accidents there. But...it is kind of worth it once you're there for the views and access to the Shropshire Hills proper. That's what you have to tell yourself, anyway! Never been to The Bog (love the thumbnail 😂) but it looks an interesting place to visit on the mining history. Great video, even if it brought back awful memories of that ******* hill! 😂

That's utterly bizarre about the Wimpy! I fancy one now, its been years. You still see them about, but I'm sure it used to feel like they were on a par with McDonald's and Burger King in the 80s and 90s. Not sure what happened. Loving Chris in the wig 😂 Much Wenlock (another funny English name) is one we've never been to. I love a stroll around old ruins (we all know what Stephen thinks 🤦♂️) so hopefully we can go there at some point. That mustve been frightening being so close to that explosion, apparently it was one of the biggest evacuations ever here post-WW2. A chemical plant as well 😬 How did no one die?! We just loved Much Wenlock and went there several times. It's not very big and the ruins are English Heritage. We decided to get both EH and NT and see what we used most. So far, it's pretty even 😂. @vanandrewschrisanddione oh interesting, it'll be good to see which one you prefer or use the most! So far we're finding there's a lot more National Trust places by comparison to make it worth the money, plus all the car parks. They are both great either way though 😍

I wouldn't want to come here in high season and the pitches just about fit 6m but it's 19 pounds a night with access to pool and sauna, which we will do on a rainy day 😂.
