2022 Lexus RC350 F Sport POV Drive 4K - La Honda Road Highway 84
POV 4K drive in the 2022 Lexus RC350 F Sport driving on La Honda Road (Highway 84). I finally decided to record a video on the best driving road in the Bay Area, and this time I get to showcase how the car handles on this road with the F Sport lowering springs. Compared to my first ever video on this channel, I have a lot more confidence in the car especially on the S curves on this road, where there are back to back corners.
I had some unfortunate news in this video, as I showcase the dent that I had gotten on the roof of my car while driving on 880. I show the damage that the car took, as well as how I repaired through a PDR shop in Pleasanton. Though the dent is now gone, I am left with 2 rock chips that I made a little better with some touch up paint.
Because of this chip, I decided to schedule an appointment to do a paint correction and reapply the IGL ceramic coating as it has been 2 and a half years since I first had it applied. I also will talk to my detailer about my PPF and how it is holding up.
Essentially, in this video; not only do I drive on my favorite back road, but I also talk about how I protect my cars paint as best I can.

POV 4K drive in the 2022 Lexus RC350 F Sport driving on Highway 9, AKA the Bay Area's Nurburgring. POV drive in the 2024 Lexus RZ300e Luxury. This is the front wheel drive version of the RZ and honestly its a really nice car, if it fits your needs. The FWD RZ has much better range than the AWD RZ, but 220 miles of range isn't the greatest. The reason why this car is an intriguing proposition in my opinion, is because dealers are marking down this car like crazy. As of this videos upload, the...

    10:05 hahaha that sure sounds familiar! I was in awe when you got 2 courteous people in a row! lol Hope your repairs and ceramic coating went well and was reasonably priced! These roads around here just suck despite the exorbitant amount of taxes we're paying to supposedly upkeep them... I just had the exact same thing that happened to your roof happen to my hood, missing the ONE part of the hood I didn't PPF 🙄 took a whole chunk of paint out. I just cleaned, touch-up painted, sealed and polished it. It looks meh since I don't know how to wet-sand and didn't want to experiment and mess my paint up, but at least it's covered back up now and protected...until the next boulder hits my car

      I will say that after I got the first rock chip on the car about 2 years ago, the subsequent chips that I accumulate, doesn’t hurt as much as the first one 😭. This one on the roof stung a lot though since there was a dent so I wanted to fix it ASAP. In terms of the coating, I took the car over to my detailer and he did a wash and chemical decontamination, and he told me that the coating was beading again like normal. Basically what he told me, and I wasn’t aware of, is that every 6 months to a year, you should do a chemical decontamination to your ceramic coating to “clear up its pores” as he called it. Basically after the decon, he recommended not to polish off the coating and reapply since it was still strong.

    Another great drive! Battle scars are to be expected, but sometimes they're in areas you just can't stand. E.g., Right in the line of sight. 😀Always good to have the Battle Scar Removal Account funded. Mine is mostly PPF'ed with a 5 year ceramic coating and I recommend getting the roofline (at the top of the windshield) PPF'ed too. I had a bike kick up a huge rock and it hit in the same area, so I'll need to get that corrected and protected. Thanks for posting!

    • @bayareadrives
      @bayareadrives 17 днів тому

      Ya they usually say the first rock chip or battle scar you get on a car is the hardest to get over, but the ones you get after the first are easier to digest. This one really bothered me since the dent was visible from all angles, so I wanted to fix it ASAP. PPF on the roof is something I’ve considered. Ever since I lowered the car I’ve noticed the roof gets hit a bit, I can hear dings and all when a rock chip hits that area. I may consider doing a gloss black PPF on the roof. I’ve seen some RC’s with a black roof and it looks really good.

You have now totally sold me on getting the RC, although the latest iteration of the IS350 is really nice as well and actually had a recent opportunity to test-drive one. I also agree with you about the “high seating position” of not just the RC, but all Lexus vehicles. I currently own a ‘08 IS350 and it also sits high. I do wish they would “trim down” the seat an inch or two, to create a sportier feel while driving. My hope is to purchase mine in June of this year! In the meantime, I will do my best to make time to watch your RC videos! (My name is Scott)

    I own an ES 350 and requested the oil changes at Half the recommended Distance but at Time. At 30K miles I asked for a drain and fill only of the auto (No Flush No filter) along with the brake fluid. I have to say the results were to create a new auto and brakes that hit hard, so do it with Toyota Fluids (about 5 quarts replaced in auto) The long life coolant is now 6 years old and that will get done next oil/filter because it is losing the pink slightly. Other than that not one thing has failed in 6years. They are wonderful vehicles

    As someone that has had two 19 ND2 Miatas (one is my current weekend car) the GR86 and a 21 Supra premium. Currently I'm watching your video because I'm on the fence of getting an EC350 F sport on top of the Miata in the next couple years. Drive in Chicago traffic 2 hours a day. The supra is incredible but like you said has a lot of BMW parts and untrained Toyota techs that make it very complicated when things go wrong. The reason I have had two Miatas in just a few years is because the enjoyment of it for being sub 30k for a almost new used one with dirt cheap maintenance is just not comparable. The 86 was basically a worse version of the Miata with more room but a fixed roof. Less fun, worse quality, and less reliable. I haven't owned or even driven your car but I can say owning basically everything else you want just keep it and get an ND2 when you can afford it and you'll be absolutely over the moon happy.

    • @bayareadrives
      @bayareadrives Місяць тому

      Thank you for sharing your first hand experience! That is definitely a good idea. I could just keep the RC and maybe put back on the original springs for more ride comfort, and buy a Miata as a dedicated weekend car. I do want to ask though, is the road noise on the ND Miata unbearable? If I do get a Miata, I’d go with the RF to have a little bit less road noise in the cabin. I know with the older Miata’s some people would wear concert Or motorcycle earplugs to protect their ears. I have thought about installing sound deadening material like dynamat in a Miata to make it a bit more quieter, even though it will add more weight.

    • @danielwatkins5970
      @danielwatkins5970 Місяць тому

      @@bayareadrives if you plan on having the top down at all absolutely go with a soft top. The rf with the top down has really bad wind buffeting and isn't all that much better than the soft top with the top up. With the top down and the windows up I can have full conversations at highway speed with my wife. With the top up I'd say it's actually pretty good (still a convertible so you'll always have some) and lining the trunk helps a lot. I have never needed ear plugs driving it. A bit better than my 2021 Wrangler was when it comes to interior noise. Obviously it's not going to be as quiet as the RC but it's very good for a non luxury convertible. I only ever get the GT trim and on a 4 hour trip I was still completely comfortable. Just shy of 5'10" and about 175lbs.

    Miata? Nah RCF

    • @bayareadrives
      @bayareadrives 2 місяці тому

      Honestly the RCF was my first choice, but there’s 3 things that are making me go to the Miata: 1. I will never be able to enjoy the 400+ hp of that 5.0 V8 for more than a few seconds unless I wanna reach triple digits. In the Bay there’s so much traffic that there won’t be a lot of instances for me to floor the car. 2. The Miata is the better sports car on back roads. I like going on windy roads, and the Miata will handle the twisties a lot better than a 4,000 pound GT coupe. Plus I can actually fully ring out the car in the twisties with a low horsepower car like a Miata. 3. I want to experience the convertible/drop top life, at least once lol.

That’s pretty much the only reason why I’m considering a chrome delete. But given the pricing in my area, I may just leave it be lol.

Plastidip is something I’ve considered, since I’ve done a chrome delete with it on a previous car; I guess I’ve just gotten lazier as I’ve gotten older, don’t really want to go through all the prep work or masking everything off and all 😭.

      It’s honestly personal preference. I’ve been debating about getting an exhaust too, but I really only hear the car from the inside of the car, and the intake sound that this car makes is already great. I don’t know if I will make the most of the exhaust, unless I get a full on catback exhaust which is a bit pricey.

      I use Premiere Pro to edit. When I was editing this video there was a sharpness effect that I tried adding on to the footage, but increasing it through premiere pro seemed to make the video look even worse. Not really sure the best way to describe it, but it looked oversaturated after applying the effect. I think I need to mess with the GoPro settings even more. I may also try leaving the interior lights/map lights on if I do another night drive.

    Good video with realistic expectations. I have driven my 2020 RC350 F sport for almost 56,000 miles in just over 4 years, averaging 31-33 mpg on the freeway and about 19-20 mpg just around town. Still on the front tires and should get about 60,000 miles on the fronts and the rear tires were replaced at 33,000 miles. Original rear brakes and fronts were replaced at 46,000 miles. No mechanical issues nor warentee issues in over 4 years. This is a great car for long distance driving, commuting and in sport + mode, rather rapid acceleration and is not nor will ever be a sports car. Too heavy but, I live in Los Angeles and maybe see another RC on the road about every 2 months for all years produced. BMW's and Mercedes are a dime a dozen. This a comfortable, quiet, problem free vehicle, and a keeper. If you want a true sports car, then purchase a sports car. I still get people giving me the high fives as the car remains a looker and will not be confused with any other similar car. If you are in your 20's and can afford the car, want speed and handling, don't expect the RC to do what an M2 or sporty type vehicle will do, but, if you are in you later 30's or up, and working, then this is a terrific commuting car and relatively cheap to keep, just routine maintenance. Your money, your choice.

    Had a bad rattle in my rear deck lid for the ML sub bass in my 2022 IS350. Definitely take it in if you don't mind the dealership taking it part for a few days. Lexus has a 4 year bumper-to-bumper warranty and they dealt with the rattle without any costs to me. They ended up replacing the ML sub entirely, all under warranty.

      That’s interesting, cause the rattle that I am having is near one of the speakers on the rear passenger seats. I haven’t been able to fix it by pushing on all the panels, so when I take my car in for its next oil change, I’ll have the dealer take a look at it.

      @@bayareadrives try going underneath the rear deck through your trunk. There should be a hole you can look up into where your sub is and see if it could also be the bracket that's loose. That's what the dealership initially thought and tried to adjust for me before I came back to them about the issue popping up again so they went to replace the whole sub assembly.

    going to my local Lexus tmr to look to trade in my es 250, im looking at is350 vs rc350 im in the same boat where I could due with 2 seats. I want a sportier car but I cant see myself in anything but a Lexus especially compared to bmw, Infiniti, Mercedes, Toyota models at the 40 ish k price point. I might be weird but at this price point Lexus has the best looking cars they just lack power. anyways do you have any input? if I don't need the backseats I guess I should look at rc350? and you say you are looking to sell you're car, I can imagine you're selling it for something sportier, if so what are you thinking?

    • @bayareadrives

      In terms of power, both the RC and IS are fine in my opinion, they both have 311 hp which is more power than most cars on the road. You should be able to easily pass people on the highway and have a little bit of fun. Yes, I am looking for a more sportier car, specifically the Mazda MX5. The Mazda has less horsepower than the RC, but in reality when I’m driving in the city or highway, I am never able to use all 311 horsepower because there is too much traffic. Secondly the handling of the RC is not as good as the Mazda. I prefer good handling cars that I can push on a back road.

      I’ve never driven an RCF or Supra, but from what I’ve read and seen, the RC350 maybe too soft, especially if you’re coming from a Supra. If you were to put the Supra and RC350 on a sport to luxurious spectrum, they are on opposite ends. It’s more GT than sport, but if that’s something that you are looking for (a great daily that will eat up miles and have some fun on a back road) then it maybe the right car for you. The RCF is still luxurious but it is definitely more sporty than a RC350, so I feel like that maybe more of a middle ground for someone coming from a very sporty car like a Supra, but I agree prices for the RCF both used and new are very high.

    This is literally one of the best CVTs in the industry. This is where a car enthusiast like you is different from an actual car reviewer.

    • @bayareadrives
      @bayareadrives 3 місяці тому

      I agree, Honda CVT’s are one of the best, especially in their hybrids and family cars. But putting a CVT in a premium compact car with sporty intentions, is a questionable choice. The Acura website literally lists the Integra as a “premium sport compact car.” CVT and sport do not go together in my opinion and it goes against the cars marketing pitch. Luckily Acura offers the 6MT, but most buyers today purchase automatic cars. The Integra’s competition (A3, 2 Series, Jetta GLI, GTI, Mazda 3 Turbo) all do the “sport” aspect of their marketing pitch a lot better, as there powertrains are much more engaging and sporty with there traditional automatics and DCT’s. I’m not trying to be a CVT hater. CVT’s are great in most cars, as they are more smoother and fuel efficient, than a regular automatic. But in a car that’s trying to be sporty, a CVT makes no sense.

    I just purchased a 2024 Integra A-Spec Elite and had an Alfa Romeo Giulia. Honestly I would never buy an Alfa again because a lot of dealerships closed since I had it and there are a lot of issues with the car. The Giulia is a good looking car but be prepared to be pouring a lot of money into repairs. I love the Integra a whole lot better and it is smaller than the Giulia but has more interior space. My Giulia engine recently caught on fire on 880 and I was told it is a known issue with the Giulia. Be prepared to get a lot of CEL’s. I had my Alfa for 4 years and it was a money pit. Alfa dealerships want $1K for an oil change..yup $1000. Most Euro mechanics in the Bay average between $180-$400 for an oil change, and that’s just an oil change so imagine the cost for major repairs. There is no oil dip stick so you are relying on the Infotainment system to check it. Most oil change shops will not touch the Alfa. If you are in a car wreck with the Giulia, a bumper may take 3-12 months to arrive from Italy. I chose the 2024 Integra A-Spec Elite for reliability, comfort and technology over speed. A Tune with Hondata/K-Tuner (Integra 1.5T) vs Squadra (Alfa 2.0T) is more reliable as well. I can upgrade the Integra to be 350hp 300Tq (3200lbs) over the heavier Alfa stock at 280hp (3600lbs) and save money over OTD price alone. Plus aftermarket Integra parts are in vast quantity over the limited Alfa support. Whatever option you go with, I wish you the best!
