As a Ranger fan currently living in Washington state i approve this trade.

The most basic reason why Kakko hasn't worked out in the Rangers is that all his strengths lie in cycle and possession hockey, while the Rangers top6 has only had rush players all this time.

I don’t get all the pearl clutching on the Kaako trade. He’s proven he’s not a top 6 scorer, nor a bottom 6 cruncher (which you need vs Fla). Cuylle and Berard have surpassed Kaako in physical play, tenacity and scoring probability. Our near future top 6 is Bread-Tro-Laffy, Cuylle-Chytl-Berard. Frankly, I have more faith in untested Othmann and Perrault in our top 6. At his best, Kaako was an intermittent possession forward who played well on the D side, but not well enough that Ranger fans are justified in confusing him with Pavel Datsyuk. As a bottom 6 winger, you want size and/or grit like Edstrom, and a more developed Rempe. Kaako got plenty of chances per his own admission. If he didn’t have a 2nd overall pedigree, no one would shed a tear at losing someone with Kaako’s numbers because, statistically, he’s a dime a dozen. That we got 2 picks and physical Dman is a decent and unspectacular return, filling a need.

Kakko is mediocre. Trading him isn’t the mistake, drafting him 2nd overall is.

Kakko, Laf, Miller, Schneider all struggling... Kravtsov, Andersson, Lundquivst all out of the organization... either development absolutely sucks or drafting absolutely sucks... I find it hard to believe that so many picks havent panned out so my conclusion is the Rangers cant develop their own non-goalie talent 😂

Remember, that Kappo Kakko was to have been replacement for Pavel Buchnievich. If you look at it that way, his future with The Rangers wasn't ever going to be stable. Let me know what you think

Kakko was getting fist amd second line opportunities for a long time throughout the years and did nothing with it. Good player, but we need more than he can offer us right now. I just wish they used him in a package for a better trade

Great Video. I think that this is a sign of Chris Drury releasing his Fury on Players Playing Up To Less Than Their Potential. I wouldn't be surprised if he's (Chris Drury) going to trade Igor Shesterkin & LaF before their extensions kick in. Let me know what you think

I've always have been surprised how the rangers dealt with him. As a devils fan. I watched both him and Hughes pretty closely throughout the last couple of years. There's a huge contrast between how each one was played. Jack was thrown to the wolves immediately and you saw him suffer and get knocked around quite a bit but he's matured whereas kk got the opposite treatment where he did not get enough time to play. Personally, I felt that he deserved more time just because everyone had the general consensus that he was more NHL ready than Jack. I really think his talents will be utilized better in Seattle. He's a really good hockey player and it's a shame that the rangers mismanaged him

Jesse you have a tremendous take on the situation. I particularly like that you clearly state Kakko is not going to meet his perceived potential. GMs would do well to be more clear eyed about the aura of being a high draft pick. As you say he can be a useful NHL player. That is pretty good.

Kakko never got a top6 spot cuz he wasnt good enough. Over 20p 1 time in his career. Sell him while playing good and get a RD thats 90% of trouba and 2 picks

There was no era though so let’s be real. Kakko was not good until after this season started when he played just average. He’s not good. Drury should’ve traded him in the summer for Guentzel.

The Rangers need to now bring in somebody who can exceed what Mika is doing currently put him into a position where he's getting less ice time and have him request a trade. He's just not the guy he was get rid of them retain a quarter of his salary and thanks for your time here in New York.

I'm excited for number 24 to get a fresh start. I think the fans and the media did him a disservice. It's not his fault where he gets picked in the draft It's the organization's fault and from what I understand they made that pic based on like a two-week scouting of a tournament in Europe. The return would've been better had Chris Drury not announced to the world that he's desperate to trade players. This more than offsets the good trade he pulled off with Trouba. Just woeful incompetence.

Moritz Seider, Matt Boldy, and Cole Caufield were all taken after Kakko. Rangers could probably use one of those guys. Borgen might be able to help the D-corps today. 3rd and 6th are trade bait down the line. Ultimately, both sides probably wanted a fresh start and this is good business by Drury. As for Seattle, Kakko could find his game there, but not sure where he slots in. Lots of young forwards on the Kraken and not enough spots. That being said, does this trade wake up the Blueshirts? Debatable. I personally doubt it.

It was kind of admirable when the Rangers said you know what 5th in the league isn't good enough. They then proceeded to absolutely destroy the team and now they're like 25th lol the Leafs running it back doesn't seem so bad now. Could have had a meltdown and traded Nylander for a 3rd and a 6th lmao

Maybe opportunity will help Kaako in Seattle but honestly he's been garbage for new York and I don't blame them getting rid of him. If he takes off in Seattle then the rangers may realize they needed to give him a bigger role.... Time will tell.
