    I disagree with some of the points you made within the video, but I don’t think you are wrong by taking this approach. I believe that there is better way to develop strength for CrossFit.

    Good convo. I’ve been doing crossfit since 2011 and I’ve done most of the popular strength cycles like 5-3-1, Smolov, 1 x 20, the Outlaw Way, etc. all strength cycles have their purpose and it’s important to find the cycle that you can stick to. MetCons serve a vital role to fill the gaps and help with skill transfer. The Biggest issue is managing CNS.

    I would really love to see you Taylor go 100% into training to be a beast for the games next year. Maybe you could #MakeTheGamesCoolAgain too 😅 People like you and Colten are how the games become cool again. That would be amazing to see. Obviously if your not into it then I get it. But you have the tools to do very well at the games with a really strong healthy year of training and hitting weaknesses with the goal of 100% being as fit as possible. Would love to see you get there, I could definitely see you being top 15 or higher next year. 👊

    I really enjoyed this discussion - it covered exactly what most regular crossfitters need to know and understand better. The clarification around body weight movements and strength gains was especially interesting to me as this is exactly the kind of work our coach is programming at the moment. Learning about what I need to be doing and how it will benefit me is great motivation. BTW I am an almost 67-year old grandmother and watching Kill Taylor is my favourite show of the week!

  • @avera9636
    @avera9636 26 днів тому

    This is a great discussion and represents THE biggest problem once a CFitter wants to go from putting in an hour at the box to stay fit . . . to wanting to be more competitive. You start to recognize your weaknesses and finding the TIME to prioritize them runs short. In my case, 'time' does mean enough time to do the work, but enough time to RECOVER from all the work you are willing to do. MY biggest problem is not wanting to take days off to recover. Active recovery in the form of a 45 min level 2 track run has me thinking the whole time, 'I should be doing barbell work or improving my gymnastic skill.' I would buy into Sentinel but my box does not allow members to attend class and not participate in the scheduled programming. Very understandable, as 'community' is a huge part of the experience.

    Apart from criticising definitions and the test battery, what about the actual data? It's quite interesting that "blocking" strength training and WODs over separate weeks (a very unusual way of programming) improves those tests MORE than the same amount and modalities of training (you missed that) mixed within each training session like most people do these days. The only difference between groups is the distribution of training

    • @samuele.marcora
      @samuele.marcora Місяць тому

      It would be nice in the future to compare these two distributions of training with a more "traditional" way: separating Strength training (the traditional "Heavy Day") from WODs across different training sessions within the week. My hypothesis is that this distribution is superior but there are no data to support it

    I need to look into these 5-week cycles. I'm using a 16-week cycle now which limits my progression year over year, and at over 50, I don't have a lot of time remaining to continue to build strength.

    Great podcast. I’m not throwing shade but the only thing I’d disagree on is the statement “CrossFit is 100% science based”. Could argue this for the training methodology for sure, but the nutrition component (which is the base of the pyramid and considered a priority over the training element) is not based in scientific literature. Loved this podcast.
