My channel deals with "antique and collectible" telephones that are 110 years to 40 years old. I will be posting videos here produced by me - to simply show that my phones I am describing - that work on a standard POTS/ Landline from a telephone service provider that supports rotary /pulse dialing. Any statements made are assumed (on my part) to be correct. Inasmuch as I might be right, and I research old telephones all the time, I could be inaccurate or not conveying model numbers, dates, or other issues verbally correct. We all make mistakes folks, and I am not immune to that one common thread. BUT...IF the dates are shown in a photograph of the item being discussed in the video, then the dates are balls-on-drop-dead-accurate . Model numbers, lettering and I.D. stamps of series of phones vary with a plethora of manufacturing schemes and contradictions from unreliable (and reliable) sources. Have fun and I hope you enjoy watching. Like - and please - subscribe! - Telcosteve
Mirage Hotel and Casino TRIBUTE Room Review ---two Suites
The Mirage Casio and Resort. One and a half months before Mirage will be gone forever, Part One of my tribute to the classic casino that started the strip in the way it has morphed itself from the days of the Stardust, Desert Inn, Frontier, and the old decrepit Circus-Circus. The first video here shows the 1960s motif and attempted design of two suites. Room 29049 and Room 30054.
The bedroom window in 29049 might give away what is really happening to the foundation structure of the Mirage. The Window Panel is stress cracked in the bedroom. This would explain the present owner imploding the place to the studs. Of course watch out; as the property has a long history of bad luck events. Even at long ago, a saxophonist falling off a stage while performing and the tiger attack of Roy Horn of the show Siegfried and Roy in October of 2003.
But for the sake of just seeing and showing some history here ya go. Video 001 tribute to the Mirage and the people that were employed there that always smiled and great to converse with.

I wish I was a little closer for better video editing. I was going to through this out, but wanted to address my wandering away from Antique Telephones. So at the first 2 minutes and 20 seconds or so I talk about that and show some of my photographic handywork. Some Horses is one of my favorites from this group (now that they turned me on to them. For what it is worth, here it is.

Thank you for your kind words and time to write.
Funny how it rings when you crank it. Can imagine people in the past running to answer the phone whenever you'd make a call 😂
Actually people did get a sense of hurry and answer the phone when it rang. Thanks for watching!
Im watching this video because I just bought one exactly like this. The one I bought is still 100% intact with the old eveready batteries and all. The only thing that's messed up is the receiver cap is cracked and the cord is pretty shredded. I found both on E-Bay for less than $20. Mine has a square ceramic lightning arrester that would have mounted somewhere out of sight. Its my understanding that it spent its entire life hanging in a closet of an old mansion. When they upgraded the phone system they just disconnected it and left it hanging there. I paid a guy a measly sum of $60 for it. I don't plan on doing anything to it other than oiling the finish and using it as a wall hanger in my dining room.
Send me a pic of it. Thanks for watching!

I have a similar kellogg phone with small holes in the four corners. Are these for wall mounting? It’s quite heavy
I just bought one of these and I was wondering if you could give me a call

Mirage Hotel and Casino TRIBUTE Room Review ---two Suites
do you know how much voltage those phones used ...i have a client that converted one to a lamp and they have 120 volts going thru the contacts of the hang up mechanism. do you think that is safe?
Talk battery then was minimal DC voltage at mili-amps. When you convert this into a lamp you are using 120AC that could potentially electrocute a person. If the leads and contacts are not insulated for high voltage by capable professional electrician...then you are asking for danger and could possibly lose your life. . Good Luck to anyone that thinks this is simple. Therefore I officially am consulting you to distance yourself from this project if you don't (or WHOEVER) does NOT know the difference between DC talk battery and 120 AC. Thanks for watching.
We got this and we can make calls from our vintage rotary phone, but when we call the rotary phone, the ringer does not sound. Do you know what could be the issue?
Depends on many factors. One. What brand and year phone is it?
As someone new to the hobby of restoring old telephones, this video was very informative. Thanks.
You are too kind. I hope you will find a great one and have as much fun as I do. Thanks for watching!
Does pulse dialing still work in your country?
Yes rotary pulse is still working , but not too much with VoIP equipment interfaced with the setup of wiring to a talk path circuit. In other words, DTNF is the preferred signalling method for call leg- either analog or digital.
What is the proper height for wall mounting phone
AT&T is discontinuing the landline. This will be a hardship for many people. Thank you for sharing.
This is oh so true. X-Link is the answer to have your Cell Phone become the Central Office that provides Dial Tone and call switching. Thank you so much for your uplifting post. Please Subscribe.
Where have you been
I have been around. Where you been?
are these hard to wire?
Yes cloth covered copper stranded wring is tricky to deal with and requires patience when the V.O.M. says "OPEN." Thanks for watching!
I have a complete one of those they're all just slightly different but one thing is for sure that coil at the top is the same as my coil so is the bar magnet generator and the rest is just got slight differences I'm assuming mine is a Kellogg the schematic is still in the door
I have one that looks just like this except it says it is a Stromberg Carlson. I bought it from a retired Phone Repair guy who fixes old phones. It works great. It even has a push button dialer inside where the batteries used to be. Love the old phones.
Sounds like a good one. Thanks for watching. Please Subscribe!

I have one of those from Ohio Bell. Any idea where I can get a coin box key?

So much static noise icant u understand what your saying
I just replayed this and...yes...there is ambient background noise but, what I am saying is clear to me anyway. It could have been better, OK, sorry that it did not meet a grade of acceptance. However, In my defense, this was done to provide interest beyond my studio in the garage placement background (which has sound issues as well). If these videos do not meet the critical analysis benchmark of some---then I think that those that do so should invest (as I have) the countless hours of storyboard set-up, equipment provisioning, filming hours, editing, re-filming, investigative research, and providing free advise to those that do watch my channel. Thanks for watching.
Can you tell me how to mount a 28 pound kellogg wall phone on drywall so it won't fall down and what kind of screws should use?
Toggle Bolts in Drywall BUT The other side use "Wood Screw Lag Bolt that would dig into drywall and tighten into wood studs. No studs in wall? No good. Or, "No tickey, no laundry." Good luck!
Not sure if this specific phone has ever been identified? I'm no expert and not seeing inside the top box ,but here's my guess. It might be a Bell Telephone Manufacturing Company (BTMC) made in Antwerp Belgium. The pattern of the box, the location of the lock, the bells, and this era certainly had a similar Kellogg pattern to the transmitter arm mount. These should be completely point to point wired with no back cut splicing, solid magneto, super high quality setup.
It has been gone a long time. So I see your points but it had other markings in it and since it is sold... There are other items that I am busy with. Thanks for the note!
This works fine with Motorola cell phone but does NOT seem to work with either samsung or i phones. The bluetooth setup does not recognize the XLink device even when you type it in. Motorola phone works fine however. What do you suppose is the problem with these other phones?
That I can't answer as I am doing this with a Samsung Cell Phone in the video. I would contact the Manufacturer. Here is the link about possible problems. myxlink.com/Knowledgebase.aspx?key=android--- Good Luck. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.

Sorry I do not understand the question.
i have 2 of them wall phones for sale they are in nebraska asking 100.00 each can not ship they are nice and cheap anyone in the U S A interested
Where did you get the ringer? Did it come with instructions on how to hook it up? I would like to put one in my 3-slot. Thanks
No the ringer was acquired from a Western Electric "Trimline" phone. That ringer was capable of being mounted in the small space that I had to deal with. I installed it much as a ringer installation of a typical W.E. 500 Series phone (502). Thanks for watching.
How can I wire two old phones together one in my house the other in a detached garage so that someone in the house can call me out there . I have a Kellogg wall phone with all the stuff I think . And another brand that has a separate box and a andy griffith style two hand phone
Hi guy. Thanks for watching/ First you need to have lightning arrestors (sorry but I think it spelled correctly) carbon and coil A.K.A. FUSES attached to a wire (dropwire) that leads from the house to the detached garage. You must look up National Electric Code and building and safety code for wire run clearance - ground to lead. If you have a conduit from your house to the detached garage, then good. Next the phones need to wired to use the network coil if they have them or a newer network component so you can talk on them.

Thank you rachel ann! Hugs.

Ok well you need a ring generator as explained in the video.@@timandpatstephenson2638
By any chance can you do a tutorial video about how to add a dial to a old wooden telephone?
You need to apply the dial to a network wiring scheme that usually incorporates a varied network devices. May be in the future when I get more time. Thank you for watching.
Your welcome
Interesting but a bit deceptive too. While it is certainly possible to have a faulty capacitor that could display this symptom of bell tap, it certainly is not the only cause. A misadjusted bias spring on that 8A ringer will also display the exact same symptoms. If the spring is set too loosely it will also tap in the same way when dialing or operating the hookswitch. So, it's not always the capacitor that is faulty but still a good idea to replace it anyway.
That is EXACTLY why I nstalled the correct micro farad rating at 250DC. Thanks for watching.
Do you have a videos on how to make the phone like this? Like a step by step? Also it would be cool if you could program it so when you turn the knob a certain amount of times it calls someone programed in, like speed dial!!!
I actually might be creating a book that dives into step-by-step rebuilds. Stay tuned. The concept of auto dial on a magneto crank of a 360 degree cycle input equaling 60 volt pulse output to a digital signal processor "DSP" might involve higher electrical and computer programming than my pee-picking-brain can handle. Take some electrical theory classes and one day you might be the one to accomplish such a detailed task. Thanks for watching!
Love that you showed everything from driving to argivingv to elevator everything

@@TelcoSteve I recently purchased a trimline rotary phone from Time Traveler's Antiques in Springfield, Oregon for $28. However, when I tried to plug it in to my modern phone line, it gave me neither a dial tone nor an open line. I wonder if I might need a 4-prong to modular converter. I also noticed that the handset cord can't come off the base or the handset. I think this phone was made in 1965. Is that how phones were made back in the days?

Thank you really interesting
Thank you so much for the very kind response.
I have one like that one.
Yes but does it work and can you call and ring the ringer at the same time?
This is just great! Finally I stumbled upon a device that could make my phone collection cool again! Son of a telephone mechanic, I lament that I threw away several old landline phones during one move. As dad was a telephone guy we had phones all around the house when I grew up in the 70's and 80's. Years later I got back into collecting phones and I'm just dying to use my old Ericophones, old Ericsson rotary phone, and some newer retro style phones I got on my shelves (not sure though if old electronics still work, I remember years ago how I had to have the Ericophone fixed as some old stuff inside needed replacing, re-soldering, whatever. I still had a landline then, early 90's). One question, though: I see you have that white adaptor for a landline plug connecting the plug into the XLink device: ua-cam.com/video/mxlaDml1Bi0/v-deo.html . I went to see on the company website, reading that this model of the four available ones is the one that specifically has "Antique and Rotary telephone support". Does it mean one gets that adaptor with the device? I mean, apart from my newer retro style phones, old phones have thick cables with those big three pin plugs, not the modern thin cable with an RJ connector.
First and Upmost, I do want to thank you for watching and yes, what an excellent observation on the "RJ11 Splitter Adapter. Which can- to everyone's sigh of relief - be acquired at amazon www.amazon.com/Phone-Splitter-Female-Socket-Adapter/dp/B07TBP81X2 copy and paste the https in the URL banner of your browser. Yes, I guess I should have said something and it once again drives home to me that not everyone knows the old parts and pieces that did one thing or another in the world I once lived as a Bell Systems Telephone Technician. Now, I must caution you on RJ11 splitters. Some RJ11 wiring is tip and ring on Green and Red and then a SECOND POTS line on Yellow and Black. I have a couple that get confused with the two RJ11 on red green (or the center pins)..which reverse black and yellow on the secondary port. Just make sure you I don't get the wrong thing. So there you have it and I thank you for highlighting this oversight. Please Subscribe!
@@TelcoSteve Subscribed, of course, Steve! Good stuff, keep it up! Have to admit you lost me with that technical RJ explanation - my dad passed away years ago, before I got interested in his "legacy". So as a layman I don't think I'm gonna start changing cords and connectors. I was hoping I could get some universal plug, to hook up the old three pin telephone plug (used here in Finland) via a short RJ cord into the XLink. Haven't ordered the device just yet as I just now found about its existence.
@@TelcoSteve Do you think old phones, from the say 50's, 60's would even work without having some capacitors, condensers replaced, perhaps even a major electronics overhaul? I don't doubt I could use the XLink with my Spirit of St. Louis retro phone collection, but what about old bakelite-era phones, and even newer phones, say, from the 50's, 60's, including my beloved Ericophons?
Thanks for your video - did these phones have a rear slot for a 50 cent coin?
Not that I have ever seen or read about. Thanks for watching!
Outstanding !!!! I am in love !!!
