Bobbin Lacemaking Group's Christmas Lace Tree
One of my bobbin lace classes have created a lace tree for the local church Christmas Tree Festival.
So much hard work has gone into this tree.
When the class decided to take part in the festival, many of them decided to try their hand at designing their own lace. Each designer successfully completed their beautiful lace and were really pleased. It was a fun experience and a lot easier than they thought it would be.

brilliant. Thank you. Clearest on youtube :) x
I've watched several different teachers, and you are by far the best at giving sensible instructions. Everyone else works a few rows and then speed up l, thus making it confusing. Thank you for making everything clear. Thanks for showing mistakes.
😊😊😊
Wonderful tutorial! I've attempted bobbin lace many times but your video has finally gotten me on track! Perfect slow and steady pace for beginners, great camera work that clearly shows what is happening and thorough explanations. Now my lace books make sense! Thank you so much!
You are very welcome. Good luck, and any questions on lace, just ask.
I call that a square knot.... love the word reef (spl) though and the same thread goes over the other both times which is so sweet
Es panlo
Wonderfully helpful.
I am watching a lot of your videos and I love them all, please keep making more, ❤❤❤ THANK YOU
Thank you. I am planning more.
Absolutely beautiful! Your daughter is very lucky
Wow this is exactly the video to get me started on my first project. Thanks so much for the detailed tutorial :)
You are welcome and congratulations on starting your lace journey.
@LouWoo I'm absolutely hooked already, this is a lot of fun :)
Lovely, one day I will make mine.
Thank you x
Beautiful!
@@tammibaker Thank you.
Thank you
Beautiful
Thank you! I bought this pattern as my first lace ever and with tutorial it was a pleasure. I have one question - how much thread you wind on pair (passive and worker)? I cannot estimate it yet and ended making knots and winding more...
Thank you for your lessons, you are very clear and easy to learn from.
Is this pattern available to buy? I didn't see it in your patterns for sale on your website. Did I overlook it? My best friend is getting married in a few weeks and this is the perfect garter for her to wear and as a special gift
Hello, you can find the wedding garters at www.thecraftcorner.co.uk
@LouWoo thank you, I found them and bought both of the patterns. Currently working on the April 2011 (I think) garter that has the two different sizes that you layer together. And hopefully I have enough time to get that finished along with the lucky horseshoe pattern.
Have you ever done this with sewing thread? I'm curious about what will happen. This video is awesome. Thank you for the tutorial. 😊
❤
The use of colours with the threads makes this so clear and easy to understand. 👏👏👏
Hi, Im slightl confused, all the other videos on youtube show 2 twist before/after but also going over right always show going under left and over right.. am i right in thinking then as long as its consistent it actually isnt a sin either way?
There are many different ways to make lace and you will always find this. Some books will say to go over and under and others will say under and over. As long as you do the opposite for each direction, you will be ok. You always have to have at least 1 twist after the gimp so you lock it in place. You want to mimic the stitch you are about to work.Use 1 twist after the gimp if you are going into a half stitch. If you were to go into a honeycomb then you would do 2 as the honeycomb stitch is half stitch, twist, the pairs end up with 2 twists on them. This pattern was using a ground so it was just the 1 twist. Hope that makes sense.
@@LouWoo Thanks, see, I dont see it as "the opposite" because you're always going under the same bobbin in a pair and over the other bobbin, its just a question of which comes first depending on direction :D but, now, i can understand differences in standards between lace types so bucks vs beds, or torchon or whatever, but, it was just confusinng that the same lace variant getting told almost like bible like "thou must do over and under" and the next person swearing its "under then over" from the same direciton, but i can see one having confusion because if you twist before, lets say once.. so right over left, ikf your gimp goes under the one on the left, which is the one that was on top, it will snug up against the work before, if you go over it it will be separated by that twist.. so it does kinda matter (which makes you most likely right, than the others .. hence asking you not them :D)
@@lizkimber This is one of the problems with lace, I think it's all to do with how lace travelled around the world and people making their own rules. Nothing is set in stone in lace, which is one of the things I love about it. You just get used to it and then it will break out and go off in a different direction. I would go along the lines that if it works for you and makes sense then go that way. Hope that helps.
Thankyou very much❤
tried to purchase this on you website however something keeps going wrong with the order and it says there is an error with the payment, however it has not requested a payment?
I am very grateful for your tutorial, especially about how to begin the pattern working. Thank you for the excellent pace (beginner here ;-)).
You are welcome. So glad it made sense.
Wow! This is the very 1st time that I have ever watched how to do a simple beginners lace project. You are an excellent teacher because your explanations are extremely helpful & easily understood👍🙌🙌🤗!! Plus, it’s great being able to zoom in, slow down the video, & rewind as needed!! 👏👏Thank you!!!
Ahhh thank you. This is such a beautiful craft and really has to be shared.
I like your clarity of why to do things and what each move or stitch achieves. Instead of making an arbitrary choice of which way the gimps should be treated and needing a cheat sheet, it seems to me that you simply work the gimp as if it were the lone member of a pair. Work the gimp with the pairs in turn doing half stitch (Cross twist) so the gimp travels, whether working left to right or right to left, the pairs you meet work with the gimp according to that pattern. with the pairs in turn. Is there any situation this would not work?
That does make sense, however if you look in different books, some will say to go one way and other's the opposite way, and not everyone will see it as you do, hence the cheat sheet to help other's learn. As long as you make sure that you work the gimp in the opposite way to each side, you will achieve the gimp. I have found after 20 years of teaching that unless you work a gimp regularly, you are not likely to remember the directions, so having a little note on your pillow to start with is a great help.
I sent an email to Joe (11 days) and have not heard back concerning the prices? Could you please share the cost of the product and accessories with me, so I have a general amount from the year you purchased it (tax&ship). Thank you.
Sorry I don't know the prices, ping me over your email address to info@thecraftcorner.co.uk and I will pass your details on.
You are such a great teacher! Thank you for making this process understandable.
Thank you. You are very welcome.
I have seen what feels like THOUSANDS of beginner videos 😂and this is the only video that has helped me… THANK YOU!!❤
Ahhh thank you. I hope you can start making lace now. If you have any questions then please just ask.
This was an excellent tutorial! Thank you very much. I finally bought some bobbins second hand as I have wanted to do this for years. I am making do with the cushion on the back of my laptop board for now, until I work out what sort of pillow is best and where to get one in Australia. 😊
That is great, I would suggest, if you can find one to go for a block pillow. I need to make a video on pillows so hopefully that will guide you. Have fun and if you have any questions, please ask.
i wish you had included sewing the join... but this is a lovely finish
You can see how I sew pairs in, this is an old video that I made ua-cam.com/video/3F9u6yaxKQw/v-deo.html As I progess through the beginners lessons, there will be a square which will involve sewings.
Very clear and detailed tutorial! Thank you! Also helped so much that you show what it looks like when you make a mistake! :)
That's what I thought, books don't cover mistakes which I personally think are very important.
Unbelievable. You are amazing.
Wow, thank you!
Thank you so much for a very informative video. I am new to lace making and find that there are not many videos that explain the basics as well as you do. Everything is very clear and well presented.
Thank you, so glad it helps. Lace making can be confusing but so rewarding.
such a great intorduction video!!! I always felt quite intimidated by bobbin lacemaking, seeing my mum making a lot of really crazy complicated designs, but seeing this now I'm SO tempted to get started!
That's great and please do. I shall be following this up with how to work Torchon ground stitch shortly.
Your videos are so clear and concise! I also love the mini-close up video in the corner, it makes it easier to see what is going on. Thank you for sharing!
You are welcome. So glad the video is helpful. Next up will be Torchon Ground Stitch
This is crazy! On polish crafting groups recently bobbin lacing was asked for, I've always thought that it will be too complicated for me, because of videos of pros making really big tablecloths and it looks sooo advanced. And today youtube dropped me your video and now it all begins to make sense! Thank you for your work, I'll definitely come back and watch more of your tutorials, it's fascinating and so clearly explained that I'm tempted to try it for myself.
Thank you, I've always said that if you can count to 4 then you can make lace. Keep an eye out as I am hoping to release the first steps in Torchon lace shortly.
This tutorial was so clear and easy to follow!
Thank you. The next video will be out shortly.
Good teacher thanks
Thank you.
Excellent tutorial! I've always thought the process of making lace by hand was fascinating, but it always seemed too intimidating to get started. But you explain every step in the cloth stitch so well and make lace making seem far more approachable than I initially thought. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. You are very welcome and I hope you can find somewhere to have a go, it really is a fantastic craft to learn.
Thank you so much for this video. you just made everything click forme.
Thank you. I will be bringing out the half stitch video in a couple of weeks. Hope you've downloaded the free pattern. Have fun making your lace.
3:17 I think it would be rather interesting to have a video with the at least 16 variations on a roseground, having them all beside each other would be nice, I think. Anyway that was intriguing 😊 Thank you
It would be a good way of seeing all the different rose grounds together.
@@LouWoo thanks for the video, it was excellent
Does it matter how big the beads are?
Yes, don't go for very large beads, I would go with 6mm for the head bead and then go for 4mm for the other beads, getting smaller as you get nearer to the bobbin. Definately don't go with anthing that hangs down as these will get caught up when you make a sewing.
Thank you, i have just been given a lace pillow, and bobins. And i am excited to try.
Watch this space as there are some beginner lessons arriving soon. Just have to wind the bobbins!
Anyone else having trouble accessing the LooWoo website in the UK?
It should be redirecting to The Craft Corner in the next 48 hours.
@@LouWoo thank you!
How do I start with 4 open bobbins at a point
Hello, I would hang them on a single pin and then hang the first pair on the pin, then add the next pair making sure it goes outside the first pair, one bobbin on the left of the first pair and the other bobbin on the right of the first pair, like a rainbow. Then add the next pair on the outside of the 2 pairs, one bobbin on the left and one bobbin on the right so you keep the rainbow going. Then add the last pair in the same way. This means that all the original pairs will be split up, making new pairs. Hope this makes sense.
what garter pattern is this? it is lovely!
It's the garter pattern that I designed for my daughter's wedding. I haven't released it yet as I need to write the instructions.
Is there a reason to put in the gimp that way other than custom? Would it work the other way if you were consistent?
You can work the gimp either way as long as you work the opposite when you work the gimp in the other direction. If you look at books, there is no set rule, some say over and under, under and over and some say the other way round. What is clear is that if you work in one direction, say you go left as over and under, when the gimp travels to the right in the other direction it has to be opposite so it would be under and over. Hope that makes sense.
Is there anything like this but with audio? It's hard to follow along and read at the same time. Sorry.
Hi, there will be shortly, this is one of the early videos and I was a bit shy!
How much does a Reg Beasant stand like this cost?
It varies due to the different woods that are available. I would contact Joe and discuss it with him.
Absolutly fantastic ! More please 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍☀️
Thank you. I'm working on it.
