I wouldn't write it off, but given what's gone on in RE4R, I could see 5 coming next

I guess there's such a giant draw with RE4 as it's considered the best. CV would have been nicer but I do wonder if it would have done as well? 4 seemed like a banker. I think you're absolutely right with RE3R. It would have been a big gamble to commit to CV after the backlash. 4 just seemed so safe. It does feel like they have to backtrack now though to try and bridge it all narratively. It's not impossible to do, just a bit weird I think! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I like that order. I'd be really happy with that. I agree with all your points too. I think there is some great potential for some DLCs. I like what you're suggesting and I'd also love a DLC where you play as Wesker maybe. Like escaping the mansion or something! There is some great opportunities there.

@ thanks! Wanted to say great video as well, instant sub and will be keeping an eye out for more RE content. And yeah there’s just so many stories that can still be told. I just have this mental image of Chris kicking ass in umbrella Europe, in a scene like the stairwell fight from no time to die or smth lol. Heck since it would be entirely self contained they could be really creative with the virus/enemy designs and then have it be conveniently buried in a mandatory self destruct sequence so as not to interfere with the canon. Idk I’m kinda yapping here but I just think Chris doesn’t get enough focus compared to Leon and Jill

I do agree with you that the amount of addons you need in WoW is insane at this point. I think they have done well in improving the game and adding more quality of life but you still have to rely on so much; weak auras, deadly boss mods etc. You have hit the nail on the head in terms of longevity and replayability. I didn't play a great deal of Dragonflight but I wasn't impressed with the new profession system at all. Maybe most love it and I'm the minority, but I just found it confusing.

@edd_TV you're not the minority, the copium from people who are still trying to convince themselves that retail is fun is crazy. I've had someone tell me it wasn't overly complex by telling me that it was actually overly complex.

Absolutely. I think the fact we haven't even seen Chris in a remake yet is really sad. It has to be his time soon. If they want to do Zero first that's fine, but I'm 100% with you. we need to see them all before 5R preferably.

Yeah, I do think I'm a bit harsh on him in hindsight. I want this person to do a good job with him, I really do. And I really want them to make the role their own. I just can't help but miss the Wesker you're talking about. I wonder if maybe that type of character just isn't really fit for 2023 onwards? Is he too cringe maybe? I'm not sure. The model of Wesker in RE4R definitely bothers me more than the VA, but I can't help but want the things you're describing!

I agree with that. I think if something is to be remade then it should be a reimagining of sorts rather than a like-for-like; similarly to what Final Fantasy 7 has done. It allows us to have a similar experience to the original but also an enhanced one with more fleshed out characters and story. This way the original can remain valid and playable. It's important that the games don't replace the originals. I'm not a big fan of things getting remade because that to me feels like we're kind of running out of ideas for video games. We're seeing it so much lately with films and video games, but it's only going to grow I think. I think the main reason why is because modern gamers just don't have the attention span to play the originals, and there is such an obsession or focus on graphics validating a games quality, which is a poor mindset I think. There is something so nostalgic about booting up the old console and holding the original controller. I totally get where you're coming from. It's an amazing feeling. I'm definitely with you in the sense that nothing needs to be remade. Nobody ASKED for the Resident Evil remakes, right? But 2 did so incredibly well and there's so much money to be made, Capcom are going to run with it. And as mentioned, we're seeing it with other games too: Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid etc. This is just the tip of the iceberg I think.

I agree with that. I do think it might be sooner than we think though! I think CV absolutely has to happen!

I want CV too, but that handles a lot of tropes thare are considered problematic now days. Granted those scenes are mostly not plot esential per say, but they were used in ways to emphasize particular story bits like the romantic subplot or the clear insanity of Alfred. I guess you could safely rework those scenes to have the same desired effect but I feel capcom is more likely to remove those elements all together.

@@marilynmonstermaniac You're right. Despite this video being about Wesker, I had to make a little nod to Alfred with the footage when discussing them changing elements of the game. It was a completely different time and I think that's something that would need to be handled with care. You might be right though, they might completely rework him altogether.

I feel exactly the same! I know the bosses are quite bad but I do think the co-op play really does save it in a lot of ways. It's a great experience and it holds up well today. I'd be really interested in seeing what they would change for an RE5R!

I think there is potential there. I don't want them to recast him or anything. It's more the model that bothers me I think. He definitely comes across more 'real' and sinister than the RE5's comic book villain style of Wesker many know and love. It's possible they will keep him, but they did recast Ada's voice actor, so I'm not sure. We'll have to wait and see!

We could argue that none of them 'needed' a remake, but here we are! I think a reimagining of RE1 would be interesting but I understand why so many are devoted to the original. And it's important a potential remake of RE1 wouldn't make the 2002 version invalid. So they could make a lot of changes in regards to characters, story, systems etc, which means you could have similar but different experiences.

@edd_TV they've already remade 1, 3rd version is unnecessary and borders on overkill, arguably it would be a 4th because we've already got umbrella chronicles. I don't even think they need to remake 5 either. An argument could be made for Code Veronica but that's at a stretch. Alot of these are available on modern platforms but if people don't want to play the old games, either watch a lets play or read a wiki. I'd rather the series move forward now

@@Krischaos I agree, I'm interested in RE9 too! But I do think they should attempt to make the story a bit more coherent for new players to the franchise. I can't ever get behind the idea of telling people to watch letsplays or to just read, especially knowing the remakes ARE a thing. Capcom might as well just commit at this point. I don't want to hate him. He just doesn't do it for me. I really hope he manages to make his own mark on the character but from what I've seen so far, I don't feel hugely impressed. I'm happy to let it cook. I'm just not hopeful! I do agree with everything you're saying. You're definitely more brutal than I am, but I do agree with you all the same haha.

I'm not sure if they would pursue the non mainline games besides CV. A lot of people seem interested in things like the Umbrella Chronicles and such, but it's really hard to say. They could make all of them for all we know. There is so much money to be made.

Not at all! A few people have expressed their love for it here and are really interested in a remake for it! It was only a little dig, haha. If you like 6 I'm really happy for you!

Yeah RE5 still looks pretty solid today! I wouldn't say no to a remake but no way should it be the priority right now.

I do think they should try and incorporate Jake in some fashion, even if it was Wesker just looking at an old family photograph or something. I'm not sure. It was always very weird to me how Jake was just shoehorned into RE6 because they wanted Wesker in the game, just as a memory now. It could be interesting to see Jake again somehow.

I understand. I feel strongly about RE1 HD too. It's definitely risky and the word 'reimagining' is good, but it honestly depends on execution. It could be great and it could also be really bad. I would really love to see RE1 again though. I don't want them to invalidate the original game or the '02 remaster by any means. I want them to do an imagining similarly to the other remakes where we can flesh out further story development and characters. Enhance the gameplay and so on. Fans of the franchise should be able to play the 2002 one or a future remake and be able to have similar experiences but also different! This way the validity of both games is secured. Really underrated character! I hope we can see her again someday. It would be really interesting to know what she's up to now that the BSAA are messing around with bioweapons. It would be great if they brought her back!

It's crazy that this almost feels like a hot take in a way. So many people just want RE1 to be left alone, and I do understand why. It's such an iconic game, especially from a gameplay viewpoint. I hard agree with you though. I think it's very unlikely modern gamers would give this game a chance. I feel that Final Fantasy had to adapt and change, and that's what made FF7 so good. I think if FF7 was a complete carbon copy of its original, it wouldn't have been appealing to new players. I really agree with you on this. I think it's important the games are different too, because by doing that it means both games will stay valid. If they play differently and the story and characters are tweaked differently then you can have similar but different experiences with both games. It's not about 'replacing;' the original, it's just about a reimagining of it to cater to a newer audience or 'era' if you like. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I feel the same as you. I think I would honestly be happy with all of these games remade, but I think the order in which they do them is important. The 30th anniversary is coming up and I think that would be an amazing opportunity to present a reimagining of RE1. Code Veronica would also be an amazing announcement.

That is true. Jumping into RE4 alone probably isn't the best experience as you wouldn't learn Leon's story from Raccoon City. You wouldn't know who Ada is etc. I think there are some things about RE4 which you can kinda get away with and it's fine, but in the grand scheme of things it is important to play RE2 to get some backstory on Leon. And then Wesker is a completely different can of worms because he features in so many other titles.

That's not incorrect, but it's still important they attempt to tell a coherent story for newcomers to the franchise. Wesker from the remakes doesn't need to mimic the OG, but it's still important that he is explained. I'm quite happy for this new VA to put their own mark on the character. Copying D.C Douglas' version would be a pointless exercise I think.

@edd_TV I mean, I'd buy REUCr because it's the first game with multiplayer in the franchise (aside from Darkside chronicles, RE5/RE6... But I think Capcom focuses much more on nostalgia/popularity given the games they're remaking lol It'd be fun tho, like a mercenaries with co-op, a brief summary of all the franchise + old models remade! I really liked REUC's Jill Valentine, even more than the remake one xd It would be cool if they added a Leon/Claire scenario, even if it's a submission like hunk's or Ada's Edit: it'd*

@@dervan8017 I think you're right. It is a sure fire guarantee to make some money though! And also a great way to continue to introduce modern players to these games and characters. I wouldn't rule it out! It might be a while but I think it's a possibility!

@edd_TV it would work imo. It was the first game I played and I got some introduction to the franchise, then it was just my own research. I was a sucker for the archives! I'm still trying to get the S ranks after so long without touching it. Plus, my wii is a bit old, it tends to crash sometimes (and the motion controls are... Unique...)

Exactly this. Re5 brought in so many people unfamiliar with the franchise by appealing to what was popular gaming at the time. I get yes there will be people who don't know who he is but I feel like it's going to be such a small amount of people that it won't be a problem. But I'm hoping for a cv remake next anyway.

Definitely less corny, I agree. And I think it's probably a good thing in this day and age. Maybe the Wesker from RE5 wouldn't translate as well because it is very goofy, I just can't help but love it. I think your assessment on Wesker is very fair, and it's of course subjective. I hope the new VA can really make his own mark with Wesker. It's really important he doesn't attempt to emulate previous iterations. I just didn't feel very excited for him personally. I hope that will change going forward! The D.C Douglas stuff I honestly had no idea about until putting this video out and people mentioned him in the comments. I was gutted to read about it. I have shamefully never played Dino Crisis but the noise is insane for a remake. I hope they do it someday!

I think they felt Nemesis was just a bigger draw. It was a shame it was so rushed.

I have played the remakes, yes. I'm not 'coping hard' at all. I'm just hoping they will find a way to make it make sense for newcomers. I definitely agree with a lot of your takes. Especially with RE3 and Salazar in 4. I'm very much with you that Ada is very very bad in the remakes too. This isn't really what I'm getting at though. I'm not saying 'WOW THE REMAKES'. I just want them to try and make sense of Wesker for newcomers. That's what this video is all about. I agree it's definitely been sloppy for the most part, and I don't think they can 'improve' Wesker. I think that's evident with how we have seen him so far. But I think a coherent backstory for him would be nice. Whilst your response is quite aggressive, I appreciate the detail. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

@edd_TV not to sure how a written comment can come off aggressive. If I offended you in any way I assure you that wasn't my intention. From a technical standpoint I actually enjoyed your video. Good editing, nice clear audio so you must have a great mic. I liked the thumbnail and the way you articulate yourself as you spoke. While I'll admit I've grown cynical over the years and can appreciate your optimism, my point still stands. Theres a fine line between positivity/optimism and delusion The evidence given with the modern remakes gives little reason to believe they will improve on their storytelling moving forward. A harsh reality especially considering Resident Evil is my favorite game series and Wesker is my favorite character. I'm just done setting myself up for disappointment.

A remaster and a remake aren't the same thing. I also don't think it's fair to say a game that was released in 2002 'started the REmakes' either, considering they were released in 2019 onwards and function completely differently. It's also not very realistic to expect new gamers to go back and play a game from 2002, as I reference with people struggling to play the original Final Fantasy 7 as opposed to the remake. I do recommend actually watching the video :)
