I am sorry to say, that's the exact world I live in. The company I work for is a big traditional IT provider, that uses ITIL for delivery of our services and Waterfall for our implementation projects of new customers. I personally work in a very small part that is called Development and Governance. We have chosen to work according to Scrum, with the smallest amount of compromises to the framework as possible. As the Scrum Master, I am very often in "conflict" with my manager when the topic of time estimations, road-maps and business cases comes up. He is a traditional Project Manager that has read a book on Scrum a few year ago, I feel that he knows "how this work". I have been fighting this "water" from Waterfall for over two years now, but I am not sure how long I am able to hold it at bay. We have an increasing pressure on delivery, and when I explain that for us to increase our production, we would need more people, his responds is that to get that we need to show it in our estimations... It's a toxic circle about maximizing production and minimizing cost from the top management, people that has expressed that "they don't care how we work, just get it done to the set date". I do understand that getting new devs cost money, and that businesses and cost are planned months and maybe years ahead. I understand that they need help to understanding "how many" devs a product or feature need to be completed for them to be able to justify hiring. We can't give them a good estimate in hours, and if management don't trust my guys that they are working in the fastest sustainable pace that they can, and that the only way we can "eat" off the backlog faster is with more hands, then there is not much we can do... This is what you get when you have people that have no experience in the field or the wrong focus are making the call for those that want to give them what the want or need... It's hard. Sorry for the rambling and this mess of a text. English is not my first language and on top of that I am dyslectic. Hehe. I am sure you got the contexts.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Would be nice to have you in the community: www.skool.com/agilecommunity/about
Hi iam totally new to this career,. What do i have to do.
Watch all the videos in this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLGweT7vHgdHIDugGa9nWGxzRJuwyCoCVf.html
And people always come up with it as a new idea and call it "Wagile" and never have the wit to call it "sortafall".
Good point
This is why Agile won't work with 99% of organizations. Reason = Management. They will: 1. Always need a date. 2. Always remain out of the agile mindset as it's only for the developers. They don't want to be part of this so bad they even came up with an expensive method to justify their management. Hiring consultants to implement SAFE in the organization which is the hybrid model with more costs and more complications. Management will NEVER give up their control.
Thanks for the insights
❤ love all your content

Hi Coach, May be a irrelevant question to ask you here Well, should scrum teams estimate bugs? If yes or no, can you pls explain why? Thank you..
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/pBfP1RQwtWw/v-deo.html
Really good. But the management and the project managers still insist for day based estimates. How should we convince them to use story points?
I am afraid it is everywhere like that and moving to another company won't make any difference
You still provide delivery dates but your way of estimating is different. dont think that they really care about your estimation process..
In my organization, there is so much resistance from the project manager not to change to story points. Because he thinks he can manage it better by using day based estimates
Great. Does the project manager estimate work or the team? If it's the team, let them decide how they would like to estimate work
@agilecoach it is the team estimating. But the day estimations are never met. Surprise surprise.

The sprint goal should be about the why
True and the product goal
Otherwise, the Sprint result wouldn't be a piece of the puzzle product 😊
The source are managers/internal and/or external Stakeholders and Customers, wo know nothing about agility, the agile culture behind Scrum. They're used to facts.fsczs and more facts. I often get the impression that the Quality of the product is less important. And they have no idea about the unexpected Impediments which may occur. I once had a customer, who wanted a review every week. It's fear for unknown approaches.
Great point Rob

My take: In waterfall it takes 2 years to deliver crap and learn on it, in agile it takes 2 weeks. For me that's the biggest value. And completely agree that Scrum and other frameworks are sold in this way. For me it's usually like that: we want to be agile because agile is the industry standard, here is the framework (scrum) boom you're agile without changing anything meaningful. In some organization i've said that and abused some people, because in their opinion we're doing scrum, that's the company policy and I shouldn't question that. That's actually very agile in the essence. What was the rule? processes and tools over individuals and interactions ? Saying that and referring to "by the book" approach - it's good to go "by the book" for starters. If organization culture is a mess it may work, if not we can change step by step. We can go the opposite direction as well. Just keeping in mind that every team and every organization is different, that people are different, is important.
Good points
Thanks for sharing, I'm just organizing a meeting to increase the velocity BTW :) Decided to start with a question what velocity is, that's going to be a good show

Where I work we use safe. The company is much more unagile now than before. If you need help from someone it is common that they say "no you have to talk to my PO. I have to deliver my storys.." There is so much planning and estimating that it slows down work.
Thanks for sharing. Do management believe that the implementation of SAFe was a success?
