Wobbly Dock?: Triangular Bracing
Okay, I admit it, this is a pretty specialized need and not everyone will find it useful, but someone might. My dock has an unnerving wobble on the end. I needed to stabilize it. Lots of ways to do it. This was the simplest yet most effective solution I could come up with.

Elegant Minimalism: Quebec, the Road Home
Переглядів 35621 день тому
An eventful leg of the trip. It started with the crossing of the St. Lawrence Seaway by ferry, then a few days on the shores boondocking in our Cargo Conversion, the Windrose II in Quebec and New Brunswick. Finally crossing the Canadian/Maine border and deciding to drive home as Joyce contracts Covid for the first time and then myself also.
Elegant Minimalism: Ten Year Cargo Camper Overview

We started building out the Windrose II in April 2014 after purchasing her new as a shell from New Hampshire Trailers. She's all aluminum and has been stellar. Some alterations over the years. I thought I'd do a short overview of where she is now after all this time. 10 years and 45,000 miles later.

While waiting for a ferry to carry us across the seaway we stay at a bed and breakfast that was such an enjoyable experience. Join us as we turn around and take a different route home.

No choice. I had to back out in an impossible place and jackknife the Cargo Camper, Windrose II. Now it's time to repair the hole in the diamond plate. This is how I did it and I'm pleased with the results. Takes a couple of hours. Maybe someone would find this useful.

Bouncing campers, especially my cargo camper can cause chaos with opening doors, drawers and other furniture items. There are many ways to lock them. This method takes three parts and is quick and easy and very effective. And it costs almost nothing.

I've had this inexpensive leveler for my cargo camper that just didn't work right and was unreliable. One simple modification makes it into the leveler I will use exclusively now. It went from worst to best. This short video shows how to make that modificaiton.

Last year I built an automated composting toilet for our cargo conversion camper. But, in order for it work right It is a few inches taller than it should be. It's especially difficult for Joyce, my wife. So, it was time to make some swing away foot lifts for it. I could have just made a little bench, but hey, that wouldn't be any fun! A very quick video of what's afoot. Post to composting toil...

      Yes they do. Pull one and that wheel stops and the other one rotates the blower around. It took me a few storms to get used to it as my older gas blowers didn't, but after thinking I wouldn't use them I began to and find not having to wrestle the machine around is actually pretty nice.

    Another nightmare re batteries, you sell it private after a year - no warranty on battery or tool for the new guy - the warranty's they do give are NOT transferable! so what about that? I had a chance to purchase that 28 blower for 1000 less second hand only one year old, but I passed because you are on your own if anything happens - and the price of a new battery if one went down would make the savings go up in smoke pretty much. And who knows how the first owner stored the batteries over the winter - maybe outside? not good it that was the case.

    • @CraftsmanontheLake
      @CraftsmanontheLake День тому

      All possibilities, but I'll tell you that if I didn't have one and had the chance to purchase one at half price I would have done it. especially since it just came out last year so only has one winter on it. The batteries probably would have been okay. If so, you got a new blower for half price. If the batteries died early, well the discount was the cost of a new set. If you had to purchase a new set, they have a 5 yr warranty. Odds are you would have made out good as they probably would have been okay. And, if uncharged lithium batteries freeze they don't work. So, if they looked like they held a full charge then they didn't freeze. You can actually leave lithium, charged in cold weather. It's trying to charge them frozen that damages them.

  • @barlowsmith6242
    @barlowsmith6242 2 дні тому

    Yes the battery replacement is an expensive concern, and Im okay with this, but not with an electric car - which is pretty much worthless once it is about 8 or more years old because if the battery dies you are looking at 10 thousand at least - so no one is going to be buying a Tesla or any of the others after 8 years - trade in value - zero.

    • @CraftsmanontheLake
      @CraftsmanontheLake День тому

      I've heard horror stories like this too. Most cars warranty the batteries for 100k miles though. Still not enough for me yet. In the end the cost of either having them replace or getting a new car way too soon would negate the cost savings from gasoline. It's the same here with the batteries. Ya, cheap to charge but if you have to purchase new batteries after awhile you end up probably spending more.

    How much did your trailer weigh when you bought it and what do you think that it weighs now?

    • @CraftsmanontheLake
      @CraftsmanontheLake 8 днів тому

      the curb wt... or empty when I bought it is about 1200 lbs. Currently I've never had it weighed but when the garage is loaded and it's outfitted and ready for a trip I'd imagine it to be about 2200-2400 lbs. My F-150 manages it easily and I don't have trailer brakes but hardly any difference noticeable stopping. It is rated for 2990 lbs capacity loaded.

      I did a one foot heavy snowfall in a previous video. But, realistically the thing is comparable to my 10 hp Ariens that I've had forever. In some aspects it's a little better, probably because my Ariens is getting older. But, it's a real snowblower and works pretty much the same in performance as something gas that comparable in size. So, The banking at the end. Not a problem for me so far.

    It would be nice if they made them with tracks instead of tires, my Honda has tracks never a problem in 11 years and works very well, Tires will eventually have to be replaced and that will cost a few dollars Im sure, Electric seems much easier to me - easy on and off, no gas or oil. Harmond the over priced pellet stove maker, makes a slide tray for their stove and it cost 600$ not even close to what you built. You should patent your design and sell it as a hobby. Do you have a bottom plate to cover the hole at the bottom of the stove? Do not forget, that if you are using a fast charger, you already shortening the life of those batteries. An unknown issue is, how their life is affected running them 2 at a time. When the batteries are unbalanced, or degrade unevenly how they will affect each other?

    • @CraftsmanontheLake
      @CraftsmanontheLake Місяць тому

      I believe the charger is matched to the batteries. these are huge batteries. And to be accurate, that goes for wet cell batteries. Not lithium unless the difference in charge current vs battery current is very different. The charger I'm using is the one designed for these particular batteries. And The batteries don't become unbalanced when talking about two units. It's important to keep all the cells balanced within the same battery but two different batteries, even if they drain differently will both fully charge in the charger so they'll be 100% to start.
