Tachikawa Ki-92
Tachikawa Ki-92
In March 1942 the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service chose the Tachikawa Aircraft Company to design and build a new heavy twin engine transport aircraft, with good range, power and speed and capable of carrying light tanks, field artillery and troops. The Ki-92 was developed without the Allies knowing about it.
I forgot to mention. They planned to build production aircraft mostly out of wood to save their metal stock.

Like my last upload ua-cam.com/video/PVHJs3c0ZZg/v-deo.html This news reel film shows some excellent aviation footage,, including the Typhoon, B-25, Stirling, Horsa, GC-4A & C-47 aka Dakota. Plus some ground action & Winston Churchill appears at the end. Not the best quality (I have darkened it a bit) but I think it was still worth sharing. ua-cam.com/play/PLrM_5Akmuu55H1tm37PXWm0ECY7l55sSL.htm...

This excellent US Army Air Force (# TF 1-3711) film I have edited the original to mainly cover the aircraft action. It gives a great picture of what a complex operation it all was. Various aircraft pop up, including quick glimpses of the B-25, B-26, B-17, P.38, C-54, Catalina, and Spitfire. The stars of the film are the magnificent Douglas C-47, plus the Waco Hadrian GC-4A & one of my favourite...

Never heard of this aircraft. Thank you!
@@tsegulin You are welcome.
Looks like if it came a little earlier it would of been a very useful aircraft. Thankyou for sharing it is always a pleasure to hear your great research.
@@russellwaterson3304 Thanks appreciated. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Sure looks like a copy of the Curtiss Commando, C-46/R5D. But more sesats in the cockpit, and a tailgun. OBTW, IJA aircraft were designated by the katakana letter Ki, [one cypher] that's pronounced KEE. It's short for the word for airframe.
C-46 maybe? Any aircraft for that role will turn out looking like something else.
Sorry, the USN BuAero designator for the Curtiss Commando was R5C.
Another great video.
Thanks very much!
Another excellent video and the picture of the C-46 had me baffled. The landing gear is the style of a DC-3, which the C-46 didn't have. After some searching I find the prototype had this style and originally twin rudders. Your C-46 is a very unique photo.
Thanks. I like chucking in rare photos.

Most airdrop missions ended in disaster
@robertsessoms Yes & lessons learnt.
So many people think that after D-Day it was all over, bar the shouting. These historical films remind me of "All Our Yesterdays" - a programme I was too young to appreciate at the time.
@strayling1 Varsity was operated with knowledge learnt from D-Day with Glider ops. The operation still had heavy losses, but it worked in many ways. The like of we will never see again. More capable transport aircraft would evolve & of course, helicopters took over dropping in troops & equipment in future conflicts.
I remember All Our yesterdays I wish the current generation would look back and learn some lessons from history, repeat our mistakes every fifty years.
@WOFFY-qc9te The human race will never learn with all the shit going on across the world today. That is my view. l have tried disagreeing with myself!
@@talesfromthehutandhangar So the best time to live is where you are happiest and let them get on with it. Now the human condition has AI it will distort thinking to a point where it no longer matters. Now harder to correct as those in control of the chosen forms of communication dictate what is said. I live in 1976 and check into the current day on may own terms and that suits me. Best
This film shows the glider operations which were impressive but unfortunately many were lost and those that managed to land usually had some casualties from the robust landings which even Ryanair could not match. This film is a reminder of the immense bravely and determination so many years ago to hold onto the freedom we take for granted today.
@WOFFY-qc9te Yes, the Glider crew had balls of steel
...GREAT VIDEO AND HISTORY LESSON...THANX !
@@EdwardKelly-vi9sg Thanks
I never realised just how important those gliders were, or the variety of planes used to tow them. Thanks! Edit: My respects to your Dad.
I think they are overlooked and should be remembered & appreciated more, along with the people who were involved with them. Thank you.
Looks like your Dad was one hellava a guy. May he rest in peace.
Thank you.
always hilarious, how long they clung to open cockpits... masochism? or machismo?
@@paradiselost9946 It was mad they let the crew freeze back then.
his designs remind a bit of Burnelli ....anybody agree?
A bit maybe
Thank you very much for your research and great, informative video presentation. I'm learning about aircraft & the pivotal pre-and-post war years of the industry I'd otherwise have no clue about.
@@FFND16N Thanks. I am glad you are enjoying them.
Whether it's aircraft or cars the French always have a unique style. They seem to go their own way. Is it because they want to prove that the French way is the right way?
@febweb17 Yes, they are one of a kind!
"The French copy no-one, and no-one copies the French"! Sometimes this is a good thing for France, other times, not so much...
What an odd, dinky little seaplane. Would be perfect for an island hopping executive transport and/or picking up 'downed' pilots from the local air force base in the Caribbean. In a murder mystery story. Or dropping off ghosts, in a combat spy story.
very interesting. The German ( Nazi ) transport aircraft way of war came to an end when the allies managed to cut the air link from Sicily to Tunisia. It was one of the Luftwaffe's Trafalgars. My grandfather flew ju-52s and other medium bombers. he also bombed the UK , was stationed in Vienna and the South of France, evacuated the wounded out of Stalingrad and flew a General to the Wolfschanze as his personal pilot.
I'm pleased you enjoyed it-thanks. Interesting about your Grandfather & what a career. Did he survive the War?
It doesn't help when a plane desintegrates on a promotional flight.
Best get your affairs in order, the language cops have been informed and dispatched! 😂
@@towgod7985 🤣 The Weights & Mesures (metric v imperial) lot are just as bad!
Two big wings forward, Two small wings rear, A rudder, Two engines one on each side. Landing gear where you expect it. Only French oddity is the cockpit. This can't French. A real French plane ought to look like a painting by Salvador Dali.
Absolutely new one on me. Guessed on sight it was to the same spec as the Barracuda...but this thing makes the Barra look sleek! Variable incidence wing, that early, is fascinating, though.
Glad you found it interesting 👍
the late, lamented Insp Clouseau forgives you.
Again, a superb account of an obscure aircraft type. Thankyou
@@rogerwilco4736 Thanks
A fantastic job presenting little known aircraft. As you were describing it I could easily see with no surprise that it was not going work out for the French. It seemed to be like something designed in the 30s with underpowered engines and not much ability for the mission. The French certainly did better getting the Skyraider.
@@russellwaterson3304 Thank you. The whole project was a waste of time & money in reality.
I think you owe the lady a coffee. She did quite well. ;-)
