ELAN GT6, 50ft Do you Feel Inspired?
Revisiting this Elan GT6 reminds me one why I love Porsche and two how well the design works with this cruiser. Just a side note we look around the new Elan 50 this jan 2024 at BOOT Dusseldorf so look out for that on SVTONIC boatwives.

Dufour 470, Family cruiser with space to spare.
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
This Dufour 470 is probably the largest Family cruiser with space to spare. This Sailboat has three personalities. Cruser, family regata boat or something you might consider taking around the world if you are following the trade winds. Who knows what you might do with this versatile yacht. I know many of these Dufour 470's have ended up in the charter market.
Amel 60, This modern blue water cruiser is a true benchmark for quality.

For those acquainted with Amel, it will come as no surprise that the Amel 60 is a comprehensively fitted out boat, well built and easy to handle short-handed. For those who are looking to buy a boat of this size and type, you really should put this on your shortlist in order to check out where the accurate benchmark for value for money versus practical and solid engineering lies. Yachting Insider, Channel Introduction
Wowwwww!!! Really beautiful yacht
Why is the TV hydaulic? Electric motors would make more sense.
What is the hull material?
Chines made rubbish air cons a wast of money and time. As all things out of china have proven. Stop buying more land full.
With so many electronic systems, what lightning strike protections does the Amel have? Is there a fast way to shut down all the systems in a lightning storm? A master switch for emergencies? Because a solo or short handed sailor could be endangered by the loss of all those electronics. As someone who lives in the tropical Australia it’s a major issue.
I do not see the link to Amel you told the Amel sales gentleman would be down below?
Gijón IS the best
Thanks for the review. I have been aboard an Allures, but have never sailed one, so interesting to hear how they handle. They are undoubtedly good looking boats and nicely fitted out down below, with high quality joinery, etc. However, a point you didn’t discuss in your review is a fundamental feature of the Allures range, which is that they are not of all-aluminium construction. The deck and parts of the transom are GRP, as can be seen in some parts of your video. This implies some sort of watertight bonding mastic or seal between the deck and hull assemblies. Aluminium and GRP have different strength, stiffness and coefficients of expansion, so a small amount of differential movement between the hull and deck is inevitable. How then, does Allures guarantee the integrity of this seal ? It is true that the deck and hull of most production yachts are constructed separately and then bonded together to form the complete hull. But that is bonding plastic to plastic. Bonding an aluminium hull to a plastic deck is a completely different proposition. Although not an expert, or a boat-builder, I am quite familiar with aluminium yachts, being the owner of an Alubat OVNI. One thing I can state with confidence is that over time, nothing sticks to aluminium. Not even paint. So how does Allures get a plastic deck to stick to an aluminium hull in a manner that will remain flexible and watertight for the life of the boat? If I were to upgrade from my current boat, then I would consider a Boreal, KM, Garcia, or another OVNI. However, Allures would not be on my shopping list.
This model is on the top of our shopping list, how were the speeds under motor and sail? Loved the video too
💯
😎
Love the transom design on this model!
Excellent tour/review. Thank you very much!!
a great alternative to the pullman bed cabin in the port-side hull would be a utility room - a full-sized washing machine and an extra freezer would fit easily in there, with plenty more space for other stuff.
Excellent review. You're doing excellent work with your review videos!
your camera work is OK, but: 1. you do need to find a way to sync your camera with a boat’s lighting, to avoid that pesky banding effect. 2. use a lens that works in low light 3. the little I’ve seen of your gear seems to indicate your camera is mounted on a gimble? yet there’s a fair bit of shakiness going on. still, congrats on the opportunity to shoot around one of those legendary boats.
I fricking Luuurve Southern Wind boats. I pray to see the day they’ll have the opportunity to build their concept catamaran...
Nice job flower. 🌹🌹🙏🙏🪬🪬🥃🥃💎💎👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧⛵️⛵️
I Like what you’re doing- I subscribed just now 👍
A view from the UK. As much as i would love to sail, there is one thing that stops me and for a visual example it is in the opening shots of this video. From 50secs in just watch the marina appear on the horizon. Almost every video i watch on youtube is the same, 'chocca-block' full marinas throughout Europe. Add to that mooring fees are astronomic if you can get a berth. I assume this is La Rochelle where Amel's are made yes? Is it true that the vast majority of berths are occupied by overseas owners keeping their 'pride and joy' moored the whole year for their one or two yearly holiday?
Keeping your boat put somewhere is rather expensive, while just sailing and anchoring is much cheaper.
Thanks for introducing me to Torii Wolf!!!! Great video! You went over that boat right!
we use the same shampo, you have a nice taste.
My dream boat.
Интересно, в страховке будут учтены риски перелома ног?
boom brake, mate. Im not a fan of the boom brake but some love them
Nice! -- QUESTION -- So, if I forced you to decide, would you take the HR50 or the Amel 50? Also, what do you think of the HR 57 - is it as good as the 50? The reason I ask is I am not sure that it is a larger version of the 50 or part of the older generation of HR boats. It doesn't seem as wide in the rear as it should be. Should be another foot or two feet wider imo. Wish they would redisgn it and make it a proper width.
Brilliant!...
what about the new GT6X? (x for expedition) will be realease this summer. BTW, love your tours and the way you explain them
We will have to wait to see what Elan is doing regarding new models, but we did get a look around two boats this January at BOOT Dusseldorf and we are looking forward to The Cannes boat show to see what they bring. I am happy you liked the tour, thank you for your comment.
Very nice review!
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Great tour of a modern production yacht. Not exactly my style but very impressive.
Thank you happy you liked the tour.
Obviously!
Gin tonic is a very good choice on the tropics, against malaria. A must! :) Wow, now one can finally say he has the Porsche of the seas! Very nice boat, looks very well finished, the deck layout is - all the boat, actually - quite spacious. I found the dinghy garage more a "storage wet space" than a dinghy garage, specially because there's a ladder on the way and it's somewhat tight for a dinghy. It'd certainly need those "pillars" for the dinghy (ops, forgot its name...) Is that teak on the deck synthetic? I'd say it's bill is around 1 mil something €, right? A very stylish Med boat, for its internal and external space distribuition/design. For world sailing I believe a dedicated nav station would be a necessity.as a workshop space and big water and fuel tanks. Thanks for the video! see you on the next!
So if I want to drink lots of Gin I need to go back to Africa, well that going to be my excuse now anyway. Elan are great boats and when they collaborated with Porsche to design the interior of the GT it was a genius move. As you say these sailboats are in their element in the med or waters like that. Lots of fast champagne sailing. The deck was real teak but you can option for synthetic if you want. The price is around the 1 million mark yes.
@@SVTONICBoatWives Cheers!
I really dont know much about Elan and thus I have little to guide my expectations, but the fit and finish looks much better than I would expect. I'll have to try to see one in person. Nice review!
I have an Elan E5. Fit and finish is closer to Grand Soliel/ X-yachts than the production yacht groups like Hanse/Jeanneau etc etc. owned mine 5 years and been very very pleased with the build quality, service support and most importantly the sailing!!
@@tr5065 wow - high praise indeed. Glad you chimed in on that
@@tr5065 Totally agree with you, Elan is definitely on the high end when it comes to production sailboats. They perform well as you would know great boats and are a little jealous of your yacht.
@@SVTONICBoatWives based on the Hamble. You’re welcome to come for a sail anytime 👍 just let me know.
@@tr5065 I might just take you up on that. We will be back in the UK this year looking at Spirit yachts and contessa, so if a blast on the water is going We will buy lunch and dinner.
Beautiful boat! Agreed, probably the best production boat for cruising the med. I can already see myself island hoping in the Aegean in one. Lol The Slovenians really make nice boats. Thanks so much for sharing!
Interior looks v welcoming, ? Hanging locker for wet weather gear - prob never going to sail in UK waters!
Totally agree with you, one of the USPs I have always admired with Elan is they still build their yachts to perform well under sail while giving us all the comfort we want in a cruiser.
@@guyfender5267 I have seen a few in the Solent but it would be good to test one in the UK that would make a great video.
Chuckling at 2:07 apology.... Hmmm, that ' heavy night ' sounds like you knocked back quite a few!!
I am glad to see Amel went away from the High Gloss interior finishes.
Glad noboby died or we probably wouldn't have this video! Nice experience, for sure. I believe it's under these conditions that you learn a boat's capabilities and since you're all alive it seems to be good news about her behavior, right. Ok, it's a "nowhere fast" boat and there are times this is better than a Speedy Gonzales :) Thanks for the review of the spacious cat ! Fair winds, see you on the next!
I think we would still get the video out and imagine the views if there was a terrible accident,( Hmm that has me thinking) only kidding and she was a great boat in the end, handled well for a house and looked after us in style.
@@YachtingInsider "handled well for a house" is the best definition ever for such a cat! Loved it! :)
Not a lot of mainsail left lol. Great boat tour made even better being able to do it during a delivery trip with real experienced points covered that you can't do at the usual boat show type tour .
Glad you liked it, after 10 days we got to know this Lagoon 51 quite well and I am surprised at how well she looked after us. I think production cats get a bad press but my mind has been changed.
"Nobody has died yet" So why do you look like you want to murder someone ? LOL ! 😂
Because I did, you can't always choose who you deliver with and no matter how hard you try there is always one human that you just can't get on with. But the owner and his mate were awesome fun so that helped.
@@YachtingInsider LOL 😂 REMINDS ME NEVER TO GET ON A BOAT WITH MY EX-WIFE !!
@@moejaime2654 perfect 🤩😁
@@YachtingInsider "there is always one human that you just can't get on with." we call them shark bait 🤣😈
Nobody has died so we must me doing something right...😂 You had me in tears. Thank you for sharing with us parts of this trip that looked beautiful, except for those big waves in the beginning. It may be a case of the grass always looking greener on the other side (of the Atlantic) but I think that retiring in any of these beautiful coastal towns somewhere between Le Havre in France and Lisbon is not a bad idea.
There are some beautiful spots along the coast here but the Bay of Biscay is a hard mistress sometimes. Glad you liked the tour.
Excellent tour of my favorite boat. Now if someone could fund my purchase lol. Enjoyed the video, thank you!
We are on the same page as you, who is going to help with the cash.
Hello, I hope your having a magical day! Just had a small request,( If it is NOT TOO MUCH TO ASK). Could you please NOT Do that painfully tacky "bump transition," like, EVER AGAIN, AS IN NOT EVER, PLEASE? Also, I'd hate to be a pain but; -the word copious, (though I can't imagine any real-life scenario where this would be) but WORST CASE PLEASE ONLY USE that annoying word at maximum, =ONE(1)/once(preferably NEVER).
