This is the first part in a series I will be doing on a scratch-building project of the Grinnell, Iowa Depot in N Scale. This first part covers some history and photos of the depot throughout the years. In videos to come out later, I will cover the scratch-building process, the materials I use, and the challenges of building this structure.
I would also like to give credit to the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce, The Grinnell Model Railroad Club, Grinnell College, and Google Images for the items used in this video.
I hope you enjoy and Happy Railroading to you! Tony

Before heading home from the RPM Conference, I went to the Joliet Railroad Museum, formally UD Tower. I had always wanted to visit this place but never seemed to have enough time carved out to stop. However, this time I planned on it being part of my trip. I hope you enjoy this brief recap of my visit. Thanks, Tony

On Saturday, during the 2024 RPM Conference, I got the opportunity to operate with the Modutrak Group. I operated for about four hours on this mid-west-themed layout and had a blast. Not just because of running trains, which is already fun, but also for the conversations with others who share the same passion for the hobby. It was a great time, and I can not thank the guys of the Modutrak Group...

A few months ago during an Op Session, all of my Operator's throttles that were using the radio NCE throttles froze up during a session. Tethered throttles were fine but wireless nothing would run. After going to the N Scale Convention and talking to Ed the NCE Rep. He suggested I upgrade my RB02 Radio Base Station. That way when other Operators are coming to sessions with newer NCE throttles t...

Corn Country Rails: End of Year Review 2023
I have always wanted to do the same N scale depot for a T-trak module. hope I can get it done before I run out of time.
Fascinating place. It's only a couple hours away, but I never thought to go see it! I'll have to fix that in 2025.
Paul Meincke ended up at ABC 7 in Chicago. Even old C&NW engineers said the Rock's locomotives were junk. I love the engineer interviews.
Nice
Tony, I posted a link on Doug Harding's M&StL group. Hopefully, all 481 members will take a look at your project.
No problem. Thanks for passing it along. ~Tony
Yet another great video Tony. Thanks for sharing the history and changes thru the years. Will be following your progression thru this project. Bob
Thanks, Bob! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and a few of the sneak peek photos of my progress with the depot. ~Tony
Well done, Tony. Looking forward to following the scratch-build project. Mike
Thanks, Mike! It is one of those keynote structures for the layout. ~Tony
What an interesting project Tony, should keep you busy through the winter and I look forward to seeing your progress updates. Google maps indicates that there is now a Mexican restaurant at the location.
Thanks for the tip on what has moved into the depot space. Thank you for watching, and I'm excited to start the building process of the depot this winter, ~Tony
Hi Tony, and thank you very much for the video. Always very interesting to hear the history that other models are capturing on their layouts. Looking forward to your build over the coming months. Have a great week. Scott.
Thanks, Scott! I'm excited to get started on the project! ~Tony
Interesting project, as a modeller of the M&St I will certainly follow it.
I wish I had more room on my layout to include more of the M&St.L Railroad. ~Tony
Enjoyed this video, and I'm looking forward to the build. Regular visitor to Grinnell picking up from a plastics manufacturer on the south side so I don't get a chance to get into town further to check the place out.
Glad you enjoyed it! ~Tony
Hey Tony thank you for sharing one of my favorite things is then and now photos👍
No problem, glad you enjoyed it. ~Tony
Thanks Tony for the quick video. Well worth the stop at the Railroad Park to catch that old Santa Fe war bonnet paint scheme. Have a good week. Scott.
Yes, Had it not been too windy and cold, I would have stayed longer. However, I had a good time anyway. ~Tony
My name is Michael Lockhart I had just subscribed to your channel.

Very nice museum tour and train viewing.
Thanks!
PAUL MEINCKE of WHBF-TV in Rock Island, Ill, His special he made right after the Rock Island Lines shut down in 1980. I was at the auction in Silvis but did not buy a caboose but did pickup a lot of cool Rock memorabilia.

Great Layout and Great Group of guys!
You are so correct! I had a great time running trains with them for the afternoon. ~Tony
Congrats on your award! Appreciate the walk-around of all the layouts. Recognized a few modules from a local club member that was able to attend. Hope I can attend the next one. =)
I had no idea this even existed......right in my own backyard.......nice video..
I think the plan for 2025 is the third weekend in October. Hopefully, you can attend then. ~Tony
Great looking video. No substitute for the natural light coming through the windows to the layout.
Agreed! When the morning natural light started shining through the windows, I tried to make the best of it. Thanks, Tony
Thanks for posting, Tony! Your train looked great on that great Modutrak layout.
Thank you! I had a great time running over the layout for the afternoon. ~Tony
That looked like it was a great layout to run on. Thanks for sharing the video.
I did not operate on the HO layout, my next video covers my time operating on the N Scale Modutrak layout. ~Tony
Not to worry Tony. I have plenty of switch keys! Glad you had fun running on the Modutrak N scale layout.
Thank you, Bill! Oh, yes, I had a great time running trains and visiting with all of you. It was a great inspiration to get me ready to kick off some projects on my own layout. I'll keep a hold of the switch key in case I can operate again with you in the future. Thanks, Tony
Thank you Tony for both of your videos capturing the RPM weekend. How wonderful that you were able to operate on the layout. Looks like a great event I need to attend at some point given I live in the area. Thanks again. Scott
Scott, There are so many good things offered at the RPM Conferences. I enjoy the layouts, visiting with fellow modelers, and the clinics are outstanding. Of course, the highlight this year was operating with the Modutrak guys. I think you would enjoy it. ~Tony
Excellent
Thanks! It was a great afternoon of running trains! ~Tony
