Tempo Mapping in Pro Tools - Full Song Tutorial
In this video I show my full process for TEMPO MAPPING in Pro Tools. Follow along as I build a custom click track for a song recorded without a click.
Recording an artist's performance without a click track can capture the natural essence and spontaneity of their music. However, when it comes to adding additional elements like drums and bass later on, syncing a click track to the artist's performance becomes essential.
Tempo mapping involves identifying beats and syncing them with the recording, adjusting as necessary to reflect the natural feel of the performance. It can be a tedious process, especially in sections where the performance deviates from a strict rhythm. But once you get the hang of it it's not too difficult, and I find it's well worth the effort as you get the best of both worlds: an authentic, flowing, natural performance from the artist, and a perfectly synchronized tempo map and click track to use during overdub sessions. It's a win win!

    How does this have anything to do with Kontakt? It's totally unrelated to Kontakt and it doesn't even integrate with Kontakt in any way for the user. The only reason it uses Kontakt is because the developer does not know how to code, so he wrote a bunch of Kontakt scripting spaghetti instead, using Kontakt as a janky/limited plugin development environment. He should have used AI to write most of the boilerplate real code, you can get a basic JUCE plugin going in 5 minutes.

      What a kind and helpful comment, thank you! 🙄 Skybox Audio primarily make deep-sampled keyboard instruments for Kontakt, which are entirely "related to" Kontakt. Drop Designer is a simple, fun, FREE tool that utilizes some of the Kontakt scripting built initially for the instrument collection. Drop Designer "integrates" with Kontakt by .. um, loading as an instrument within the Kontakt library, just like every other NI and third party instrument for Kontakt does. ChatGPT didn't exist when these products were made, but please feel free to AI-JUCE your own stand-alone drag and drop sample player and give it away for free! I'll be sure to check it out and comment on it. 😀

      @@danaproducer Bruh I've already written a sampler that has 100X more inventions and innovation for warping samples than Drop Designer has...when I was a teenager, and I gave it away for free. If you know where to find it, you can find it. Making a "stand alone drag and drop sample player" is some noob stuff, I can do that easily. I use my own DAW.

    • @danaproducer
      @danaproducer 3 місяці тому

      @@zyxyuv1650 that's cool - it sounds like you've already got yourself sorted with a DAW and custom drag and drop sampling solution you dig, so I'm not really sure why the need to throw shade in the comments section of a video that's not relevant to your needs. Drag and drop sample playback and manipulation has always been sorely lacking in Pro Tools, my main DAW, so Drop Designer has solved a problem for me and I enjoy it. Your YT handle and profile leave no clues whatsoever as to who you are or where to find your free drag and drop sampler, but if you want to share a link or something I'd be glad to check it out and am always looking for useful tools.

      @@danaproducer Obviously I left the comment to motivate the guy into learning coding. My thought process is "Hmm, how can we influence this guy to learn to code". Making some criticism is one way to create a lasting memory. If it was praise then he wouldn't remember it or get anything out of it.

    • @danaproducer
      @danaproducer 3 місяці тому

      @@zyxyuv1650 Ah, gotcha. It seems we got off on the wrong foot, as that wasn't obvious to me. In the future, when seeking to motivate, maybe dial back the harsh and try something like: “nice work - this has real promise! Tho, as a musician/coder myself, I hope the developer will consider building this as a standalone plugin instead of scripted within Kontakt. Coding in JUCE is easier than most people think, especially with the help of AI these days. It’d be worth their time to look into it. I’ve actually built my own samplers like Drop Designer using JUCE in case they’re looking to hire an experienced coder! 😉” Anyway, that's the type of thing I would write if I knew how to code and wanted to motivate/inspire, add a bit of constructive criticism, and put an idea in someone's mind for potential collaboration or work, FWIW. Hit me with your sampler link tho for real and I'll check it out - take care.

    I have worked on two original U-67s and that V67 sounds very similar to those. I agree - your voice sounds better to me on the V67. In my very humble opinion - after hearing all three - I liked the V67 best! The V12 sounds warmer but also I noticed a lot of low end "slight P-Pops" or rumble - probably due to the added Low End. Both mics sound wonderful! I have heard on-line the BH-1, also Killer Sounding. I purchased an Amethyst, when they first came out, which was purported to sound like a U-67. That's a Big "Nope". Very disappointed in it. I wish that I had gotten a V67. I am very familiar with Vintage Mics, as I have been doing this since Dec 18, 1972. Ahh! Yeah - 51 years ago - yesterday! I have a Real vintage Telefunken ELA-M 250 which Telefunken USA told me was "hands down The Best One we have ever heard." But - yeah, your mics sound Amazing.

      Hey Rafael! Wow, I'd love to hear that ELAM 250 - bet it's amazing! And so cool your history working with all my favorite vintage mics. I own a vintage U67, which has always been my fav all-purpose "sounds great on everything" mic. When the JZ V67 came out I was like, "I need to try that" and it blew me away. I should prob do a U-67 vs V67 video at some point. I've never analyzed them side-by-side, as I never personally felt the need to ... like you, I'm so familiar w the U-67 sound that when I first spoke into a V67 wearing headphones, I was like, "yep, yes, thumbs up, yes please, thank you, i'll take it!" hahaha.

    • @danaproducer
      @danaproducer Рік тому

      Hey there! I love and use the Valhalla reverbs all the time. They're great! And sound quality wise, I'd give Valhalla and Strymon both A's. If I had to choose one or the other, I would choose BigSky for 2 reasons: 1) you'll get more reverb engines/styles for less money than buying each comparable valhalla plugin, and 2) you'll have all those engines [and more!] in one plugin with the simple twist of a dial .. see 3:00 in the video above. With Valhalla products you would have to open separate plugins if you wanted to hear Shimmer vs. Room vs. Plate, etc. Luckily I own all of these and gobs of other amazing reverbs! And I use them all. And honestly, you never know which one is going to sit "just right" in the mix with your given sound source with the least amount of tweaking. But if you're in the market for a reverb and deciding between the Valhallas and BigSky, I'd go bigsky. Or both!! Haha.

      @@danaproducer Yeah man, I dunno all the companies / groups you produce for but this is an Apple-ad track if I've ever heard one man - maybe you can recycle it for them and land an ad-spot gig! :) PS you totally sold me on BigSky LOL!

      Oh, I would be so lucky if Apple wanted to use that track! Haven't made any plans for this particular track yet other than for this video haha. But I like the way you're thinkin! And hope u have a blast w BigSky and make lots of fun tracks with it too! Also, FWIW, I've got a free mix tips pdf for my mailing list friends if interested: www.dananielsen.com

      i've got the same problem here. I think it has to do with the fact that the free kontakt player has a lot of limitations. what a shame.
