Loved the V16!
It’s you or no one??
Got my sub bro wow thanks needed this
I use it not to look at but just leave maybe the drums n bass tracks playing. The other cool thing is send it to midi throw it in your DAW, no you don't see the chords then but you can adjust a few things and get a better backing track. 1 issue is for some weird reason the piano parts have no dynamics you can see it in your DAW velocity is static but you can adjust or randomise velocity in a DAW simply . So sending it to your DAW is a nice way to get some fine tuning and if you use something like bitwig it can randomised by chance anything from individual notes, say the highhat choose a note and then how often it's likely to hit on a certain beat same with dynamics so you can easily. So you can create a lot of surprises
Uhhhhhhh. If I don't know what DAW is, perhaps the next person also doesn't either?
Wow, just so wrong. The most powerful way to work on a song is to break it into small pieces and figuring out vocabulary and how to play the changes for small groups of chords from the progression. This is where selecting, looping, and controlling the tempo comes in really handy. You can't do that with backing tracks on UA-cam. Your points about using the ear and interacting with other musicians are fine, but it's not either or. Figuring out vocabulary and how to put it together is one facet -- and this is where iRealPro is a fantastic asset -- and playing with others in another.
Totally understand your point but I think the point of me not using the app, being told by not just myself but Chris potter when I studied with him is that using this app makes you too comfortable with being able to stop music in instances. From his words if you do that you will never truly be able to flow through the changes if you practice chopped up. I think it can be a great tool if you use it appropriately. But if you rely heavily on stopping it every time you mess up or cant figure out how to play a certain chord it will definitely come out in your playing. Plus the point of separating building vocab versus playing with people makes no sense. Just completely wrong. Oranges with apples. Vocab is internally and human interaction is through composed. Nothing to do with the other. Irealpro doesn't react with what you play and does less to react to certain tensions you play. It is very limited in that, which makes vocab more difficult to understand. Again makes no sense to compare that but I understand where your coming from. Its a big leap to go away from the app because it requires a lot of focus and energy to develop everything by ear and with people. I dont personally because it holds me back. Jamming at smalls you can tell who practices by ear and piano versus with the app. Lack of ideas and development of solo is usually the obvious culprit. Drop the needle and force yourself to listen to the changes as they go. Transcribe them and go to a piano to break it down there. Then play along with the record and see what the musicians did and learn from them first and make your own ideas! Not trying to say this is the best way but this came from Walter smith III, chris potter, ben wendel, melissa aldana and many more who I studied with that would agree with me on this one. Happy holidays!
what backing track is this?
Wish I had a chat like this. I’m a lonely tenor player out here lol.
I love the polyphonic cpunterpoint at the beginning of the phrase. So fresh
man i wanna be in central park while chris potter is there DAMNNN lol the crowd has no idea
Get a knife, it doesn’t need to be sharpe or big. aA table knife works. Cut the seal. Then instead of groping around with your fingers, slip the knife under the box top from the side. Position the knife near the front of the flap. Gently pry up evenly along the front edge (lift the knife edge along the front). That will lift the flap and keep the tabs from snagging on the side tabs. It only took me several decades to figure that out. Torn box tops is something that I no longer experience.
hemke all the way
got a feeling you adjusted your embochure on the alexander reeds
The Legere are nice until you have to play a live gig in a horn section. They have no projection in a live situation, and they blow flat all night long. I went back to cane after playing one live-they just don’t have that solid, cane core element
Rumor is that Mr Brecker had these developed for his Guardala mpc. The other rumor is that the Java greens were developed for David Sanborn.
what do you do to the rails that make a new mouthpiece wear that much in such a small timeframe I wonder...
imagine walking through the park and freaking Chris potter is there shredding
DUDE IMAGINE THAT LOOOL
Im debating on the meyer 6m or vandoren v16 6s+ I currently use a yamaha 4c I love playing pop, rock, jazz, and video game music
I play alto
Mouthpiece V16 As6+ ?
Real jazz musicians learn the tunes mentally and not visually. I ca up with te Real Book, but never, ever used it in a gig. When I got good enough to be a leader, I always told the side people, no reading on the gig. So, I understand where you are coming from. Great. The person that taught me how to be a pro, recently bashed my approach to using apps like this. I said to him that solo guitar has it limits. Yeah, you can display your talent, but you can’t expand your audience. What I meant is that individual interpretation is fantastic. But gigging is somewhat different. A broader audience without selling out. I said to him, “ You learn to really drive. Any condition, situation… who makes the decisions? You or the car. Your knowledge of the car you’re driving helps, thus your decisions. The car has nothing to do with the decisions you make. You do. The app is the same, it’s just a vehicle. No brains, maybe some experience, but no decision making abilities, unless you program it.” I sent some tunes that I recorded, not with IReal, but something similar that I had programmed. No more issues. I learned to play soloJazz Guitar and guitar on the streets of New York, but that is not monetizing today. That was back in the late 70s. I’m back on the streets today, as where I am, many clubs and bars didn’t make it after COVID. Not complaining, but I’m again learning to play Jazz, under different circumstances. I’m cool. Thanks for the share, and straight ahead.
Chris Potter è un grande esempio di grande artista umile ed umano ❤
annoying..............
Love my V16 A6M
Que som top ? É a V16 s6 ?
🤘 'promo sm'
What an underrated tune. Sounding good man!
Omg, your so good! My friend plays saxophone
😊
Valid arguments but it sounds more like when you're ok with playing using iRealPro (or any backing track generator/music) you're ready for the next level. Still, I do agree with the auditory argument; the ear is the most important bit to freedom while playing. But it's hard to start out that way. As a tool, it can help you to improve for many minutes over a single chord (or two chords) without your musician friends getting bored. ;-)
Okay, I just happened upon this video. Sorry I'm two years late, but is this test about which reeds are best out of the box, or which reeds are best? Why do you not take into account that a reed needs to be "played in" to get the best vibration and response?
HI.i've played Sax 40+ years. My left thumb gets numb several times a year.Sometimes for hours, other times a day or two.My left wrist occasionally is sore or stiff, not bad enough for pain or concern however.
Was this comparison designed to demonstrate that a jazz reed works better on a jazz mouthpiece? Or perhaps, surprisingly, that the V16 reed seems well-matched to the V16 mouthpiece?😅
ugh can't remember the name of that tune
okinawa
Thank you for your review. Can you recomend any budged program for jazz backing track?
Send it's midi to your DAW and edit away choose better sounds adjust timing and add stuff like a vocal or something. It'll get your basic drum n bass stuff over easily and you can even check out the chord structure they use
Interesting! Vandoren specifies that V16 S6+ needs to be coupled with Java Green 3-4 in their website. You are using 2.5. Maybe that is why highs and lows were off.
Slight leak
I'm bassist, irealpro has no melody line of the song... I don't feel the song when i jam along with those chords...
How can you even compare reeds not being properly broken in?
Thanks for this
Hi Alex, that was a great lesson! Thanks for that. Do you have Pdf files that you can share with the topics you explain?
Your sound on tenor is spectacular.
Já tentou a a5+? Muita diferença para o 6s+?
Doble, triple corazón,eres fabuloso, que sigas hasta hacerte famoso, bravo
AWESOME performance Friend 💪 well done
iReal sounds good for those who have kids and can't really go out every single night to jam with other people, although it is not as good as playing with real people, it looks like a good option.
