Just for context, he wrote and recorded this at the height of his drug problems, so probably genuinely didn't think he was gonna be around for much longer. Eminem's lyrics of "Shady made me but tonight Shady's rocka' bye baby" were emphatic. Eminem pretty much killed his Slim Shady style after this song only referencing it in certain songs like monster when he takes the elevator up to the cage. If you've not seen that one yet you'll see what I mean.
I remember reading a comment one time, saying that Hailie was in this music video. I was so confused, because I had seen the music video many times, and never saw her. However, they explained where she appears, and I finally saw Hailie lol. When he looks down at the little girl, ("Hailie"), at his concert, there's a teen girl wearing a cap right next to her. That's his real life daughter Hailie.
probably one of em's best songs.. probably this was his good bye letter to hailie considering the events happening during that time in his life.. RIP Proof!

2:13 this song is about how his fame changed how he was as a parent and husband.
Em loves his girls and have always wanted to be a good father and part of that is making money to give them a better life than he had growing up.
But making the money kept him away from the family when touring and recording and he wasn't there physically the way he would want to.
8:14 the little sister he is referring to is the daughter that Kim had with another man (her drugdealer I belkeve is was) while Em and Kim wefe apart. When they got back together Em also adopted her, just like he did with Alaina.
This & mockingbird perfectly captures what it's like to be a parent and how it feels to be torn, to want to give them the best but sometimes you end up hurting them - wanting to provide but knowing that comes with a cost. It's so HARD to be a parent, but not in the way you'd expect though. ❤
This is one of the reasons why Em is a notoriously non tourer!
Darkness is a great song, with great doubles, great story and great effort to take a stand.
When he was talking about when everythin you stand for turns on you he was talking about how he would do anything to keep Hallie happy and safe but then he becomes the reason she's sad because he's missing out on her life
