      Yeah, I saw this PBS special, too, where these dying people went back home to places like Greece... soon, they were no longer dying. Same with depress individuals. Nature really does seem to heal! Very happy to hear you are doing so well. That’s beautiful!
      Also, the US has the most strange chemicals in it’s food. Many countries won’t even allow them for import. So it’s an unusually odd situation. (Personally, I feel and even look a lot better in Europe and Quebec compared to being back home)

    This is exactly the barrier that keeps some of us from quitting the day job, even if we would keep doing the same work on our own terms, like freelancing or as a digital nomad. Too young, and not disabled enough to get medicare but with enough health issues that paying premiums & copays out of pocket is too expensive. Before Trump's changes to ACA I did the math on CoveredCalifornia and figured I'd need about $1200/mo just for health coverage (premiums & copays for visits & meds) assuming no deterioration to my current state until I reach 65. (That is an unlikely assumption, BTW.) My company pays 100% of the premiums.

    Hey BTB. One thing missing from your analysis (or perhaps the subject for another video..??) is the healthcare sharing programs which are becoming more popular. Organizations such as Medi-Share, Samaritan, etc. I personally know a couple people using these plans (for several years) and they have nothing but good to say. If you're healthy you can usually save more than half of what you'd pay for the equivalent ACA plan. They're basically the same thing that a high-deductible plan used to be before ACA. Medi-Share quotes about $200/month with a $10K deductible for a person early 50's in good health.

    OOOoooOOOoooOoo! You hit a raw nerve with me. I was an employee at my sister's business so she could get the tax deduction of about $600/month. After ObamaCare it shot up to $1300/mo (I was 59 at the time). I went to emergency for about 4 hours in Burlingame and my portion was $3800. I figured I would stretch out the payments since there was no interest. They initially wanted $250/mo but I told them I could only afford $50. She suggested I apply for a forgiveness program through the hospital. When I got the paperwork it turned out that anyone earning less than $60k would be forgiven 100%. While it took 2 months to process the claim, I sent in $125 each month for the reduced agreed upon payment. When it finally cleared I went back to the finance office and asked for my money back. I got a dirty look while the ladies in the back giggled. We can get really political with this. I'm from a Central Valley farming town and I can tell you that the "Immigrants" pay nothing because of indigent programs in place. I would suggest that your assets (house/money/etc) be put in some kind of trust/corporation/hidden some how and you pay your routine health care out of pocket..you have years of youth and health ahead of you. Some community colleges offer teeth cleaning for $35. Live healthy as best as you can and should disaster strike.. file bankruptcy or just ignore the bill. I don't think they would leave you laying in the street at the scene of an accident or stabbing for lack of an insurance card in your pocket. California law requires them to stabilize you without regard to your ability to pay. If you have no assets they cantdunuffin! They can't put you in jail for not paying your bills. This may sound shady, but look at how tech companies buy whole other companies and never transfer the real estate into the parent company's name.. the property never gets revalued (Proposition 13 prop tax law) and no additional taxes are generated. If they can do it I certainly will try. I badly need a cookie now!

    You almost require insurance BECAUSE the government subsidizes it... if they weren't willing to cover cost, then medical professionals couldn't charge crazy high prices.
    same goes for colleges. Once the government started blindly giving out money to people, then the colleges were like "oh, you mean you can easily pay 10x as much???" Then the prices get jacked up.
    Remove government and prices would prob not drop at this point, but they would became stable.

    And those costs are just to HAVE health insurance. If you actually need to use it for anything other than colds or basic doctor stuff, you have to "meet your deductible." which is insurance code for "pay out of pocket." Last year I had a mammogram, and biopsy and it cost me $2,700 (my $2,500 deductible, plus another $200 once I had met my deductible.") I am shortsighted so I was surprised to find out what a hassle it is to get new powered contact lenses in California. Back in Malaysia, I could walk into an optometrist store, get my eyes checked there and then, wait for them to order, then come back again in a few days. Sometimes, they may already have it the store. I can get 3 pairs of contacts (in grey/blue/purple/brown etc) for RM120, so for things such as this, it's actually a lot cheaper and less of a hassle for me to just order them overseas.

      its a Big rip off by Insurance co's who exploit the good laws. in a way compulsory insurance is Very Good for people as Health care is expensive But just because people can pay doesn't mean Insurance co's should use the chance to exploit. also there's a fine if the employees of the employer doesn't have insurance.

    Health Insurance can be very and I mean VERY expensive, especial if you are an small business owner, and entrepreneur, or individual. Most states (like NC) think they only have just one carrier they have no choice to pick. Which is true, if your healthy with no pre-existing conditions you could possibility qualify for a better plan with lower premium that could give you better benefits. With that being said there is another insurance company. And actual PRIVATE insurance company that is not on the ACA. This health insurance is not offer in many states and it is NOT apart of the ACA. Before anybody calls BS, this is a real health insurance company. But again if you have pre-existing conditions, you do better with the ACA.

    Could you plan your yearly income so that for 4 years you make less than $20K per year and then for the 5th year you make as much as possible? (say $420K). So for 4 years you pay very little for health care and then the 5th year you make enough to last you the next 4 years and health care will cost you about $14K for that one year.
    From what I can see if you have a yearly AGI is between $40K and $140K you pay about 8.5% of your income to health insurance for a silver plan, California, Age 60. For AGIs less than $20K it's about 0.0% and for and AGI of $420K it's about 3% or about $13K so your average is $13K/5years or about $2.6K per year or an average of $220 per month over a five year period.
    In both cases you make an average of $100K per year but in one case your total 5 year health care is $12K and the other is $42.5K.

      Yes, I was referring to investment gains because I may be out of work at the end of this year so I need a 5 year plan to get me to age 65.
      I see a typo in my email, the "$12K" should have been "$13K" to match the other "$13K" references
      Also the other case I was referring to would be if you had an AGI of $100K for each of the 5 years.
      Both of these errors I don't think change your reply but I just wanted to correct something that was not correct or as clear as it should have been.
      Yesterday I asked a broker if there was a very safe investment like US treasury bonds in which the DIV or INT was not taxed until the time they mature and he was not aware of an investment like this. At my age I need something safe and US treasuries are looking pretty good right now but they pay INT little by little as they mature.
      Very few investment UA-camrs will discuss taxes and with the tax code as complicated as it is I think a lot of people don't do a good enough job taking care of their investments with regards to taxes
      Thanks for bring the tax code into this picture.

      @bob15479 6 років тому

      I happen to be an expert on sleep apnea, I had a job in the field. Medicaid will provide little to no coverage for your sleep study, they'll likely cover 10-20% of your machine and related supplies.

    • @JTBCOOL1
      @JTBCOOL1 6 років тому

      Dang, not fun. I have been hearing different things. I read that one guy had his machine fully covered. Do you think medicaid coverage in illinois may be different? I have been looking for hours through google to see how much medicaid covers and there is no definitive answer out there.
      Being an expert on sleep apnea. I want to propose something I am thinking. I do not have the money to pay for a sleep study and a new machine. I hear in clinic sleep studies cost 1k minimum and that does not include the machine. Can I get a hold of a machine used for 500 dollars or less without a prescription? I want to test myself with a pulse oximeter (about $150 that records data overnight) and if I show signs of sleep apnea I will bite the bullet and buy a cheaper used device. Thanks for your help. I have been wanting to get tested for about one year now but I just do not have the funds. I been appying to numerous jobs, almost snagged up a nuclear submarine officer job (would have made around 100k/year) but failed a portion of my interviews. I am struggling here and I suffer badly from fatigue and exhaustion during the day. I also have high blood pressure for a 23 year old. That potentially could be due to sleep apnea.

    • @bob15479
      @bob15479 6 років тому

      Yes, medicaid coverage varies from state to state. See if you can get it through medicaid first of all.
      Yes! You can find used sleep apnea machines on cragislist/ebay in the $250 range!
      I know a lot about this stuff but realize I'm not a doctor, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. I worked at a sleep apnea store as a salesperson.
      They will tell you that you MUST have your machine calibrated by a professional. But that's because they are liable if they don't calibrate it right. Trust me, when it comes down to it, it's just a machine that blows air into your mouth. It's not dangerous, nothing you can do with it is going to hurt you.
      Having a machine that isn't quite calibrated right is much better than no machine at all. So I would get a used one (try to get a BI-PAP or AUTO-PAP if you can, they are better than CPAP. They say they're just for people that are really sick but really they're better for everyone, they just don't want to pay for a BIPAP if you'll get by on a CPAP) Try to get one with a humidifier, don't buy a machine that isn't RESMED or PHILLIPS.
      Once you get it, start experimenting with it. Try different masks if you can and find one that works. Masks that cover your mouth and nose are better if you can get used to them. Some people tear them off at night and have to use one that just covers their nose. These are inferior because sometimes air leaks out the mouth, but it can be remedied sometimes with a chin strap.
      Cheapest accessories (if you want to buy new) are at CPAP.COM. there are also forums for advice from other users.
      The bottom line is, from hearing your symptoms, YOU MUST GET A CPAP! Don't delay! It will change your life!
      How many years have you been like this? If it goes too long, you will get into permanent exhaustion and you will never be the same. But since you're young you can probably start treating it and you will go back to normal.
      In the meantime, eat healthy and exercise. 50% of people whose neck is over 17" in circumference get sleep apnea, obesity is the number one cause. (I'm just assuming you're overweight, skinny people can get sleep apnea too but it's rare) This starts with your mental and spiritual state. In order to get the will power to eat right and exercise, pray and read sacred texts if you're religious. Wether you're religious or not, fill your mind with positive thoughts and meditate and imagine yourself in the health state you want to be. If I assume correctly that you're overweight, you can completely reverse your sleep apnea by losing weight. This is much better than getting a machine.
      As far as your job, keep applying for jobs but try to find a way to make yourself more marketable. Do you have any skills? You could start learning how to code at www.freecodecamp.org/ if it interests you. Computer programming skills will almost guarantee you a good job for the rest of your life. Also you could find a job teaching english to chinese kids online. You have to get up early but you get 14-16$/hr.
      Sorry to say so much, I really want to help you out as I met a lot of people at my job who were in your same situation at 60 years old and I don't want that for you.

    • @JTBCOOL1
      @JTBCOOL1 6 років тому

      Thank you very much for the great typed out response. I apologize for my delayed response. I managed to take about a 2 hour nap because I was exhausted from a 4 hour work day. I say not so normal for a 23 year old.
      Here is my response:
      Ok great! Worst case scenario, I will look into acquiring a used machine. I heard of the air pressure argument but as you say it is just a required legal statement. If anything, I can always down regulate if it become to uncomfortable and test using pulse oximetry again. That is a great link for new cheap accessories, I will keep that for my records.
      As for how long I have been like this. I cannot explicitly say but one/two year minimum (with the fatigue/exhaustion being at this level). I cannot remember when the last time I woke up feeling refreshed, jumping out of my bed ready to conquer the day. If I had to put a number on it, I would say over 4 years ago. My dad (who I currently work for) has always said "a young man like you shouldn't be so tired all the time" and that is true, I shouldn't. However, I should say he is not very supportive of me whenever I mention the possibility of sleep apnea because he thinks it is bogus. He says "what did people do 50-100 years ago before they had treatments for sleep apnea? People back then did not need it" and also "If I ever wanted to stay up I would think of new things like caffeine pills" and then compared sleep apnea treatments to "people who took cocaine/uppers before medical science told them how bad they are for you".
      I am 6 ft, 165 pounds currently. I have never been fat in my life however a few months back when I was still actively working out I reached 182 pounds low body fat. I had a neck measurement up to 16.5 inches. My neck is probably around 15.5 inches now. I did notice I had more sleeping complications the heavier I was, more like a harder time to fall asleep though. Not that it matters much because I still suffer from daytime fatigue, sleepiness, etc.
      I also never was a snorer. My snoring intensity has picked up increasingly so for at least the last 2 years. I had people tell me "I snore like a train" and when I asked them if I kept them up at night they would say yes I did.
      I do keep myself filled with positive thoughts and consider myself a Hebrew roots Christian. I recently have tried a few times mindfulness meditation and I believe this helps me stay focused and not so scatter brained as well. I will take up exercising once I can get a better paying job. I have a Chemistry B.S. but even then I have been rejected many times due to lack of experience. I foolishly did not study under a professor or have an internship.
      I also know of someone who teaches children Chinese online. I do not think that teaching is my cup of tea. However, I have started learning the computer program Python3. I completed a tutorial of it and have created a couple simple programs so far. I will check freecodecamp out.
      I cannot express my gratitude to you to a sufficient degree. You are very helpful and accommodating. Thank you for all your time.

    This still sounds better than France, let me run some figures past you if you were lucky enough to earn 100,000, I will compare to a low tax state. France is 46% social charges plus income tax on top, that will not cover all your medical bills and you will need to pay extra for top up insurance. Count on then taking 50k from100,000 and then factor in sales tax 4 times higher on everyday expenses. A low tax state would take 15k and maybe factor in 10k a year for insurance you are still 25k better off and even more so when you factor in the low or zero state sales tax.

      Not true. Self-payers can negotiate to 33¢ on the dollar on their total bill because the hospital knows it's more than they would get from the insurance company after months of negotiation. The notion that if I don't have health insurance it's going to cost you more is just a lie that's part of the scam. Insurance companies lobbying government with big donations has ruined healthcare, not people who don't want to throw their money away on insurance they will rarely need.

      So what is the answer? What if someone has a 30 thousand dollar hospital bill and can not pay it?

    My dad had extensive dental work done in Algodones, Mexico.. which is a few miles from Yuma Arizona. The parking lot on the U.S. side is Indian land so you pay a nominal fee. Its a 3 minute walk into Mexico. The district surrounding the border is filled with medical services and pharmacies. I suspect they are all the same company because the clerk I befriended walked across the street to the next pharmacy to complete my order. The dental office my dad went to had a clean bathroom but it only had one faucet for cold water. The dentist used the same bathroom and he doused his hands with alcohol before returning to his patient...highly suspicious!

    Your analysis is flawed. Think of it this way, what are the costs when you include the deductible? How much do does a person or family’s net income increase moving from 20k to 30k to 40k, etc.

      It would be helpful to look at the net cost for bronze coverage, assuming one doesn’t need to go to the doctor except for preventative care.

      Gigi just looking at “preventative care” doesn’t make any sense.....even after the subsidy ($50/month for an annual checkup and “free” birth control) a person isn’t coming out ahead. Topping things off the tax payers (basically the middle class) are paying the subsidy which starts at $350/month.

    The premium is only part of the cost. Very high deductibles and high copays. It was never this expensive before Obama.
