The only thing I would do is hang some blackout curtains behind the TV, but since the window is off center I would hang curtains that cover the whole wall for aesthetic reasons. It would also help absorb reflecting sound waves.

Also worth sharing, I added a little window plug to completely block the light in my one window, and am running a 5.2.4 setup with an older Focal line for bed layer, 4 RSL ceiling Atmos speakers, and 2 SB4000s for subs (bought almost everything second hand in great condition). Don't get me wrong , I love the big budget super home theaters but lets be honest. Most of us will never have the money or room to build those types of HT. This type of setup gets my respect because it's somethings I can relate to as a fellow Home Theater enthusiast. Love the room my friend. 👍

@@justinlaird I always like seeing what others in the relatable budget can and like to do with HT gear. It is like you say the gear is only part of it . Using a room correction software and room acoustic treatment are a couple of things out of a few that can be done to improve sound greatly. My room has a dreaded cathedral ceiling and what a pain it was to tune with Anthem PBK for a good bass response . Even still sitting in the sweet spot then standing yields a 4 db gain so I have to run the subs a tad hot . Like you say we have to make do with what we have l Cheers ☺

I love your set up! My wife, & I have a small studio apartment. So we understand about limited space for our home theater. Plus you have the same Sony receiver that we do. I do have a suggestion for your situation. I used the 7.1 set up at first, & it was great. When we went to see Godzilla Vs. Kong at our local theater really blew us away. It was my first time listening to a DTS-X soundtrack. So I changed the receiver's set up to Dolby Atmos/DTS-X format. The difference was huge! We're using the Sony Ss-cse Dolby Atmos speakers as front height speakers. Unfortunately I had to give up the back surround speakers, but using the 5.2.2 set up is a great trade off. Maybe this would help with your side surround speakers for a better position. Also getting another subwoofer. Trust me it makes a huge difference. Again thank you for sharing your setup, & hope to see more from you.

How you liking the small theater? Any changes over time? I just set up a 5.2.2 in my 10x12 spare bedroom with a 77 c2 tv. I’m sitting 7 1/2 feet to screen and the tv is on the 12 ft wall since that’s the only way I could do it. What’s your viewing distance? I’m half thinking about going slightly closer and going 7.2.4 with in walls for surrounds. I’m using a rz50, Klipsch 8000f towers, Klipsch 500m II for surrounds, klipsch rp500sa front height, klipsch rp500c II center, and two svs sb3000 subs. Can’t decide if I want to go in walls and do 7.2.4 or leave it as is.

This is a beautiful home theater space. I think you did an excellent job working within the confines of the space available. Personally I could never afford any of those items (speakers, Oled tv, Valencia seating, etc.) but I have what makes me happy and so do you. At the end of the day that’s all that matters. Honestly I think your setup is way better than most that I’ve seen. The big fully constructed home theater setups I don’t care for simply because I feel they are over the top and ridiculously expensive. Plus those rooms would have to be deconstructed if needed as a different type of space. Yours could pretty easily be turned back into a bedroom if need be. Lastly, some UA-cam videos that show home theater setups don’t allow the actual theater to be the “STAR” of the show because they are overly cluttered with decor and movie collections which is a distraction and makes those look cluttered and crowded. Yours looks clean and inviting. Great job! I honestly wouldn’t change a thing.

What are dimensions of your room?
You really show what you can accomplish for a small room like this. Good job.
I have a similar room I will be converting to my dedicated movie room measuring 12.5 x 12.5 x 9.
1 entry door, 1 closet, 1 small window.
You've given me some ideas too.
I am doing front projector with 106" screen to cover the window.
    My question is seating.
I see you have 2 seats, so what do you do when you want to have friends/neighbors over to watch a movie/game???
    I guess this isn't an option ?
I'm debating to go either 4 seats or 2-3seats wide. Just not sure.
How have the sound panels made a difference to your overall sound ?

The usual rule for best image quality and visual area ( without moving your head from one corner to other to see the faces on extreme ends of the screen) is 10” screen at 1 ft of distance.
If you get a 100 inch screen then your best seat should be 10 feet away from the screen. Please google this info before jumping into a bigger screen.

Really nice use of the space. Well thought out and executed. It is a small space and the 7.1 surround Klipsh speakers used is so much more than ample to get tremendous SPL in the room. I would say your equipment is more than capable of getting excellent result in even a much bigger space. I imagine you probably don't have to raise the volume too much to get full bodied sound. Looks like the setup will give you a truly immersive experience. Doesn't look like you need any more equipment to me. All that's left is just to kick back and watch a lot of movies. Great job.

If most of your theater usage is for movies, I would recommend upgrading to used RP-440C or 450C. The RP 404C and 504C are too expensive new and not that much better than last gen. The R34C sounds a bit boxy to me. However, if you are satisfied with it I wouldn't worry about it.

Finally a room that actually is small, just like mine, mine is 8'x12' with a 6'7" ceiling. I currently have a 49" 4k HDR LG TV , marantz sr7013 a rotel power amp powering my LCR which are mission 704a towers and a monitor audio bronze centre, 2 pairs of mordant short alumni 2 as surrounds and backs, 2 pairs of Sony satalites as my 4 Atmos speakers, and 2 paradigm ps1000v3 subwoofers which have been modded by myself and a 2 seat sofa. People say it's overkill but I love it and it puts a smile on my face every time I watch a movie. Currently out of action due to the dreaded marantz hdmi board failure. Love the video

Great job buddy 💯. This is real home theater. Not the theatre porn the others pedal. These are the sort of rooms most people have and live in. Really happy you made this video showing the reality of what home theater is and how you can successfully create a space in your home for very little money. Happy holidays ⛄

    Nice setup! :)
Have you tried to perfect your 2.1 setup before adding other speakers and subwoofers?
    For example:
    Starting with
-the golden triangle or the 80% rule for speakers placement
    - place the speakers a feet or two from the front wall (let them breathe!)
-the 1/3 rule for seats placement: place your seats at 1/3 of the room size from the back wall (or the front wall). Stay away from the middle because bass usually cancels at this position.
    - add a sub: finally, place the subwoofer at your listening position, play some bass notes or music, crawl around in your room and find the place where the bass track sounds best. Mark that spot and place the subwoofer there. 🙂

ditch the center channel and move the l and r speakers right beside the tv...put your bass traps in the corner with an air gap behind them and you will have a better experience. And more bass trapping would make it even better.

Hi. Go to Atmos / DTS: X. I have the same Sony model and I can do it. Better to have 5 channels around that sound fantastic anyway, and effects overhead or front high than 7 around. You will have the space of sound on the plane and the next effects will come. You tested the sobwoofers on Ready for Player One. There you have tons of top effects. Borrow some smaller surrounds from a friend and place them front high. You will see if you like this upgrade direction. How so, expand it.

hey man i hope you doing well!
i have the same subwoofer the klipsch r100sw, behind the sub what config do you have? i have the level on half power and Hz at the minimum but in the receiver is on 120Hz. What do you recommend?
Great video man ! love it

    • @justinlaird
      @justinlaird  2 роки тому +1

Thanks for watching! I think just based on average settings you got it right. Setting the power (or gain) about half is good. (10-1ish o’clock on the dial is good). 120hz or LFE is the knob all the way to the right so that’s good for the Hz. You can also do it in the receiver as well so that’s fine . If you are looking for more or less bass try moving it closer or further from the wall. Even a few inches can make a difference

Great setup! I’ve got almost an exact match to your room in size. 9’6” x 11’4” x 8’. I’m wondering how you like having the 77” C1. Is it the right size for that distance with movies/gaming/tv? Did you or your wife ever wish you got the 65” (or 55” or 83” lol). I say this because I’m looking at getting that exact same TV to replace a 6 year old 50” Samsung LED, and interested in your experience. Thanks!

    • @justinlaird
      @justinlaird  2 роки тому +1

I think 75 or in this case 77 inch is in my opinion perfect. I have about a 46° view angle which is slightly more immersive then the THX recommendation. when it is completely dark at night in my room it really does give a theater like experience being that close! You might be able to get by with 65 inch but I think if you have a room as you mention the same size as mine the 77 is definitely the difference between a movie room and theater like room

That's a nice little setup. I'm starting to put together something similar-ish. I've got the sony str-dh590, r-820f towers, r-12sw sub ($229 on amazon right now), and a samsung 60" all just sitting in my office waiting to be used. I still need to get the rear speakers, center speaker and a blue ray/4k player. Klipsch is coming out with an entirely new reference line this month or next...so there will be good deals on the current line if you are looking to change anything up.
