- Decided to try something a little different today for the Illinois monthly test. This 4004 is located at Patriots Park in Homewood. At the beginning of the video, you can hear distant 2001s from Markham, Harvey, and Country Club Hills, along with a distant 8 port siren (MAYBE a P-15 from Orland Park?) Then, Glenwood's system fires up, you can prominently hear the 3T22 on Halsted behind The Room Place, along with a bunch of their 2001s. Later on, Hazel Crest's system joins the mix, with their STL-10 and STH, their Thunderbolt, and of course more 2001s.
Finally at 2:25 in the video (about 10:02 in real life) the 4004 boops to life and does 3 minutes of alert. While the Whelen is returning to it's "home" position to begin the voice sequence, Chicago Heights's Thunderbolts wind up, and continue to sound for three minutes as Homewood's 4004s are doing voice, making for a pretty creepy sound.
The park was pretty packed with people with it being the first "nice" day here in quite some time, some of them walk in front of the camera, I apologize for that. I also apologize for the bird that was very very nearby that seems to be having multiple orgasms at several points in the video. I don't blame the bird, that ambiance was epic! :P
I just wanna get on there and say attention customers Walmart is now closing.
Or..."Ball return on lane 3!"...
Awesome video! That's definitely the older-era Whelen voice.
Voice has one epic echo!
That was an amazing ambiance! I've said it before and say I'll say it again, I think you can find the best ambiance in the Chicago area due to its variety of sirens. That 465 hz tone sounds amazing and so does the voice. This video proves why my favorite electronic siren is the 4004. Great job Noie!
That voice echo is so awesome!
That ambience....
The voice sounds like in Lake Forest IL
The chirping of the birds in this video is absolutely beautiful and lovely
If I'm correct it's Sparrows that are chirping
Always love tests from the Chicago burbs. Interesting to hear the different systems start up at different times with a variety of sirens. Is that an antenna on the back of the head or am I seeing things?
+squiddy7863 Good eye, that's actually some sort of lightning rod. The antenna is further down on the pole.
Great video! I had no idea that Homewood has Whelens!
0:36 i heard a thunderbolt 1003
You realize it also could me a 1000T as well right?
It was neither of those. It was a 3T22.
I think I hear a 2001 in the background along with what sounds like a 2T/3T22 siren?? It sounds dual toned but I can't name it.
Yknow, reading the description is also an option too.
Collector rings!
I watch this one befor
Nice video! And I'm just wondering but have you heard a P-50 or a Cyclone in person? Illinois has several of them in a few places as well.
I heard some p-50s
hearing that voice sounds pretty creepy
It’s not too bad😂
My city’s siren system has the same message, but I think it’s said by the guy who used to be Whelen’s ceo or something like that. His voice is not as deep as this.
The guy who does it now is named Tom. Before Tom, there was Paul. Before Paul, in the 80s, there was a deep voiced woman. Back then they recorded voice messages on a made to order basis unlike stock messages that are ready made now.
Lot of likes!!
Isn't that siren behind the Homewood Fire Department?
Homewood has three sirens. This one is in the park, there's one by the water department, and then the one by the fire department.
CFComm there is also the other 4004 near dolphin lake lark on 183rd street
this is a vortex
Vortexes Can't Do Voice
Vortex’s don’t have voice capability
Again, what's the difference between the Vortex and the 4004? They both look EXACTLY THE SAME! (apart from when rarely they have a weird fin attachment thing. im assuming that is for the sirens that don't have rotators???? idk.)
But they are both EXTREMELY loud.
4004 can do voice, Vortex cannot. Easiest way to tell is by looking at the controls. Vortex will have a small box with a single door, a 4004 will have a larger box with two doors. And they really aren't that loud at all, but their tone carries very far.
Oh ok. For a while I've been trying to figure out whether my local tornado sirens were 4004's or vortexes. Now i know that they are the new version of the 4004 because they would put the voice on there. Thanks for telling me the difference.
and that tone sounds exactly like the one I have. The strange thing is, my county hasn't tested them all winter or fall. They haven't tested them for almost 4 months, and on top of that, they failed again to test them this past first Tuesday of the month. Any ideas on why they wouldn't be testing them?
SlayerGaming_TV Yep, the 4004 has a square rotator box and a Vortex has a rectangle rotator box
Roughly how far away would you say the 2001 units are that we can hear at the beginning of the video?
StuffGooglePlus probably anywhere between 5 and 15 miles depending on which ones you’re talking about
what year is this siren
